Biography
I am Ashleigh Garrett from Hamlin, West Virginia which is in Lincoln County. My work is inspired by the beauty around us that is often overlooked. Through various media, I am focused on creating works that showcase the vibrant spirits and emotions we feel throughout our lives, whether it be through a graphite portrait or an expressive acrylic painting. I have always been fascinated by the images that enter my mind when I think of different emotions or the spirits of animals and want to share how the world looks through my eyes with others. My work has been featured in various local, state, and national art shows throughout the years.

I have lived in Hamlin all my life and attended Marshall University where I earned my BFA in design and marketing. After completing my degree, I delved into my practice and worked as a designer for WV’s well-known Tudor’s and Gino’s franchises for a couple years before changing my career path and obtaining the position of a middle school art teacher in my small town in 2018. I have since graduated with my MAT in art education and continue to teach 11 to 14-year-olds visual art in order to help them foster the same enthusiasm for the arts that I do. I also spread this enthusiasm throughout our community by teaching community painting classes as the Vice President of Lincoln Friends of the Arts.
