Biography

Hey everyone!

I am Mrs. Berg, the 7th grade art teacher at Hastings Middle School. I’ve been teaching in this district for 14 years and this is my 11th year at HMS! I love teaching art and helping others build confidence in their creativity and art-making. I enjoy making learning fun and I care a lot about building a welcoming community for everyone. I’m so excited to get to know all my students and be on this adventure with them through art.

A little more about me:
- Art is my passion! Some of my favorite mediums are clay, paint, digital art, photography, collage, and fiber arts.
- Working with kids and others has always been a huge part of my life.
- I believe kids are creative and have much to share and express. I enjoy helping students connect personal expression with art.
- I love choice! Some projects I teach are more guided to help build confidence and many projects have options, choices, and room to explore and experiment with supplies.
- I love experimenting and playing with supplies! In my classroom students can look forward to using a variety of supplies in new and fun ways. I believe experiences, ideas, and environments that are fun and engaging lead to innovative creations.
- I think art is meant to be seen. Students create portfolios of their work throughout the year and have opportunities to display their work at school, locally, and occasionally at a state level.
- I believe the process of making something is just as important as the end results.
- Mistakes are welcome! They help us grow, learn, and think of new ideas.
