As a fundamental particle, light is sometimes thought about as irreducible. This work calls that idea into question, suggesting that light’s passage through stained glass can transform it into something else entirely - human emotion. Instantly transporting me back to the first time I viewed Chagall’s “America Windows,” the colors here play with and off each other in a way that highlights the artist’s natural gifts. In keeping with the storytelling work stained glass typically performs, this piece asks viewers not just to view the cross, but to bear it themselves.
