“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”  – Pablo Picasso

Welcome back to the Art Room, Grandview Families!

We are already off to an exciting start to the year in our Art Room.  I was able to do a little remodeling this summer, making more room for our children's creativity to flourish in unimaginable ways!

We will once again be posting our art projects on Artsonia, which not only lets us share the Artwork with friends and relatives far away, but also offers us a wonderful way to earn funds for the art program through customized keepsakes.   I am happy to announce that with last year’s funds raised, we were able to purchase sketchbooks for first, second and third graders!

I look forward to working with your children and am always impressed and amazed to see how they grow, change and create over the course of the school year.  I hope you will always feel welcome in the art room and that you enjoy all the masterpieces that the 2011-2012 school year will bring!

Respectfully,

Christina Sponzilli, Art Teacher

Just for Kindergarten

A special welcome to all our new families!  In Kindergarten, we keep things simple, have lots of fun, and do our best to learn the basics about colors, shapes and how we can find art all around us.  If you have not done so already, PLEASE be sure to send a smock to school with your child!  Also, since many of you will be learning about the Artsonia gallery for the first time this year, don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or, if you need information on your child's gallery.

Just for Grade 1

In first grade, we will spend time learning about primary colors, so you can expect to see a lot of Blue, Red and Yellow in our projects.  We'll also do some experimenting with mixing colors to create new ones!

Just for Grade 2

Second grade is a GREAT year in the Art Room.  So far, we have been focusing on the secondary colors.  There will be lots of mixing to create our own special shades of Orange, Green and Purple, and later we will learn all about warm and cool colors and how they are used in art.

Just for Grade 3

In third grade, we're ready to step up to new challenges in the Art Room! We started the year with a focus on color by creating our own color wheel collages that go beyond just primary and secondary colors.  We’ll continue by later exploring complimentary colors, tints and shades.

Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
