3rd Grade Art: In the second quarter, students completed a drawing/pen/paint project using monochromatic colors, Black, White, on Brown. They also worked on Zentangles, which are carefully built designs within designs (the resources are in each Art Google Classroom). The most recently completed project was Oil Pastel Resist with watercolor.
4th Grade Art: In the second quarter, we completed an oil pastel project, Animal/Abstract. Then, students explored the art movement, Bauhaus. Bauhaus in German means "Construction House". The movement combined artistry with function. Bauhaus Key traits are: Abstract, Geometric, Angular. Bauhaus artists include: Paul Klee, Walter Gropius, and Anni & Josef Albers. Students started by drawing a 3" by 3" grid using a ruler, then picked 4 different colors, 4 of each color. Over 2 to 3 class periods, they carefully cut & glue your geometric designs. Fourth graders also did Zentangles. We ended the quarter with Clay Tiles, which will be bisque-fired, glazed, then glaze-fired after break (look for them coming home late January to February).
5th grade Art: Completed a Watercolor Unit, using watercolor and watercolor pencil (the theme was "ocean animals". Fifth graders also did Zentangles. The last unit we completed was Donut Oil Pastels, inspired by the painter, Wayne Thiebaud, and using blending techniques and layering of details. Each student also completed a reflection (Oil Pastel Exit Poll) in Google Classroom.
Check us out on Artsonia: I have photographed all of the fourth grade oil pastels, fifth grade watercolors, and third grade oil pastel resist artwork, and they have been uploaded to Artsonia. Be sure to give permission for your student's art to be published. I can see it, but it is hidden from our online gallery without guardian permission. Here is the link to do so https://www.artsonia.com/connect/NSW8D2X6
Fun Facts: The arts teach the skills employers are looking for. According to a report from the World Economic Forum, creativity at work is going to be one of the most important and in-demand skills in the future. Creativity is on the list along with skills such as complex problem solving, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence.(citation: https://theartofeducation.edu/2018/03/6-facts-that-show-the-true-importance-of-the-arts/)
