"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes.  Art is knowing which ones to keep."

Welcome back to the Art Room, EJT Families!

We are already off to an exciting start to the year in our Art Room.  Thanks to the help of some wonderful parent volunteers, we were able to do a little remodeling this summer, making more room for our children's creativity to flourish in ways that none of us even expected!  Thank you, Thank you!

We will once again be posting all of our art projects on Artsonia, which not only lets us share the Artwork with friends and relatives far away, but also offers us a wonderful way to earn funds for the artroom through customized keepsakes.  I am always happy to add artwork done at home to a student's gallery, so please don't hesitate to bring any of those special creations to me for publishing.

As we look forward to our fall activities, I wanted to send a quick reminder of some important upcoming dates.

October 8: Field Trip to the Busy Acres Art Studio. Here we will see a local artist in action, as she gives us a tour of her studio and the beautiful landscapes around her farm that inspires her work.  Please return permisson forms by September 30th!

October 15: Fall Art "Showdown" in the Gym. Students and parents can enjoy a fun evening on the school grounds as we take in all the colors of fall, through art projects, short movie clips and an adventure walk around the school.  Everyone is invited and snacks/beverages will be provided!

Our artroom has been well-supplied for this first part of the school year, but with some unique projects coming up, I'll ask you to look around at home and see if you can find a few odds and ends that will help us out this year:

  • Cardboard rolls (paper towel/toilet tissue sizes)
  • Magazines (preferably in color/lots of pictures for collages)
  • Out-of-Ink Pens/Markers (and their caps!)

I look forward to working with your children and am always impressed and amazed to see how they grow, change and create over the course of the school year.  I hope you will always feel welcome in the art room and enjoy all the masterpieces that the 2010-2011 school year will bring!

Respectfully,

Pogota Hutchinson, Art Teacher

Just for Kindergarten

A special welcome to all our new families!  In Kindergarten, we keep things simple, have lots of fun, get messy (but come home clean!) and do our best to learn the basics about colors, shapes and how we can find art all around us.  This month, we will spend time learning about primary colors, so you can expect to see a lot of Blue, Red and Yellow in our projects.  We'll also learn what happens when you mix colors (either because we spilled them on the table, or were doing "artsperiments!").  Also, since many of you will be learning about the Artsonia gallery for the first time this year, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or, if you need information on your child's gallery.

Just for Grade 2

2nd Grade is a GREAT year in the Art Room.  Each month, we'll focus on a different color. This month, we'll be focusing on the color RED.  Although it seems like a simple subject, you won't believe what we can come up with when we find out which artists like to use red, how many different shades of red you can use, what colors will do when mixed with red and the list goes on!  Be "REDDY" because we're going to surprise you with all that we learn this month!

Just for Grade 3

In 3rd grade, we're ready to step up to new challenges in the artroom! This month, we put our smocks aside and get out the pencils, chalks, and lots of special drawing tools.  We'll learn about 4 of the most famous artists and be able to identify who created a piece of artwork, just by its style.  Throughout the entire year, we'll start to look at artwork from a different perspective and broaden our understanding in art education.
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
