The South Carolina Distinguished Arts Program Grant paid for 5th grade students at Spann Elementary to have an artist in residence.  This year we welcomed Cecelia Ho to Spann who taught about many different fiber art styles.  Students then were able to use needle felting and wet felting techniques to make a Western Desert Landscape in the style of an American Artist Frederic Remington.  The students added layers of wool to their felt using a long needle to keep it in place.  First, they added the sky and sun, then layers of overlapping rock formations, sand, cacti, and last a train track or silhouette of a cowboy.  We are so proud of these wonderful artists!
