Learning to draw is learning to see. Second grade students practiced seeing and drawing by drawing stuffed animals. When they completed their drawing they used a ruler to divide the picture into geometric shapes. Students learned that cool colors recede and warm colors come forward on the picture plane. Then, they used warm colors to color the animal to make it come forward, and cool colors to color the background to make it recede.
