Dear Families,
Our 7th-grade artists have just completed a thoughtful and creative Symbolic Self-Portrait project! This project encouraged students to express their personalities, interests, and values through art by creating portraits that are more than just a physical representation—they’re symbolic of who they are inside.
Students began by reflecting on what makes them unique. They thought about their hobbies, favorite colors, strengths, and the things that are important to them. Instead of focusing on their physical features, they chose symbols, objects, and colors that represent their inner selves. For example, a student might have used a book to symbolize their love of reading, or a favorite animal to represent their personality traits.
After planning and sketching their ideas, students used colored pencils to bring their symbolic self-portraits to life. The result is a collection of meaningful and creative artworks that reflect the individuality and personal stories of each artist.
This project was a wonderful way for students to connect with themselves, think about what makes them unique, and express those ideas through art. We are incredibly proud of their deep thoughtfulness and creativity, and we can’t wait for you to see their amazing symbolic self-portraits!
Brushstrokes and smiles,
Mrs. Chestnut
