In this project, fifth grade students explored the role of a museum curator, inspired by The Little Museum created by the Fralin Museum of Art in Virginia. Students learned how curators design exhibitions by selecting artwork, developing a clear theme, and arranging objects to communicate ideas.
Acting as curators, students designed and constructed their own miniature museums based on a theme that was meaningful to them. They created a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks to include in their exhibit, considering how each piece contributed to their chosen theme. Students also made intentional design choices for the museum space itself, including wall color, flooring, and artwork placement.
