Students finished off their Community Art Project that they have been diligently working on for a month. The goal of this project was to help students connect with their community and learn how to use their art as a means to inform and be proactive for their community.
The project started with a visit to our local heritage society to learn about our community’s history. Then students created mind maps to help them choose an area for the focus of their project. Sketches followed to further help develop their ideas and they chose their art medium (art supplies) to begin their
work. In the following images, you will see a variety of mediums used. Students created stop-action videos, still photo movies, digital art, paintings, diorama, sculptures, wood burning, weavings, drawings, and architectural models.
The last step to this project was to write about their process and what their project means to them about their community. You can view their artist statements in Artsonia. They presented to their classmates and some of our esteemed community members and have their work displayed in the school. It has been a long process but students have truly been engaged and it was a wonderful process for all involved.
