I find this painting mesmerizing. I stare at it, and it stares back at me. Only when I transcend the dog's gaze does the depth of the work come clear - and at that point I notice the perspective demonstrated in the way the dogs body recedes, and the interesting aspect of the man in the background. What is that guy doing? It all adds to the puzzle of this compelling piece of work.
