Danny, Are you taking a nap or are you portraying a dead body? I think my favorite part of this painting is the gradual change in color from dark to light in the sky and field. It really adds depth and perspective to the piece. Love, Mom

Dan, the simplicity of this drawing is deceptive. You really had to make every line and curve just right in order for you to convey to the viewer what you wanted them to see. Nice job! Love, Mom

Dan, Nice detail in the shirt. With the lines in it, it looks like it might be a comfy sweatshirt. The fingers grasping the pencil must have been challenging to get just right, but you did! I am looking forward to seeing the video that all of the sketches will make. Love, Mom

Dan, I wonder what will be written on this blank piece of paper. With the pencil on top, it is obvious someone will sit down to draw or write at any moment. Love, Mom

Dear Danny, Digital art seems like fun, and is a good way to learn about famous art and artists, isn't it? Are you napping? Had you been looking at the house in the background for so long that you needed a rest? But seriously, I think you've placed yourself in the painting in a way that draws my eye to the whole scene, you first and then the background you're "pointing to." How about adding your own comment so I'll know what you were thinking when you created your artworks. Love, Gramma

Hi, Danny. Are you dead or just napping? This is a little disturbing, to be honest with you. It looks like CSI should come investigate. Love, Mom

Dear Danny, I don't know the story about Blue Dog, but I do like your yellow blue dog! I like your shading of Blue Dog and I think he looks pretty real. Hey, Danny I recognized the American Gothic approach right away. How cool was that assignment! Your couple could also be on their way to the moon to plant the American flag. As I looked again at previous projects, I couldn't help feeling that you must have a very good art teacher and I bet you have had a lot of fun with art this year. Way to go! Love, Peapaw's Grandma

Dear Danny, Sorry it took me so long to send this. I really love your "Matisse." I notice yours is the only one with roses (for Katie Rose?) and Pac Man guys in the picture frame. You have such a wonderful sense of humor!! I think your collage has great balance of color and pattern and I like the way you drew your fruit -- and matched the apple leaf with the leaves on the roses. Wow, you are very artistic. Would you like to go to the Art Institute to see the special Matisse exhibit? Love, Gramma

Dear Danny, I see you have a new Artsonia artwork. I have a bunch of questions to ask you about it. It looks like a group project. I do like it, but I want to find out more about it and the cultural arts fair that you made it for. I think you made it with a group of classmates. It's cute, colorful, and probably has a story behind it. I hope I remember to ask you about it the next time I see you. Love, Gramma

Dear Danny - Your Cat in the Hat character is PUUuuuuuuuur-fect!!!! You really have an eye for images! Did you know that your great great grandmother Kapps was a very gifted artist? Ask Papa to show you the art she created on a porcelain vase. She also taught art, showing the students in her home how to paint on china. She had her husband (your great great grandfather Kapps) dig out (by hand!!!) a small basement under their house where she had a kiln for firing the china. Ask Papa about it. Love Great Aunt Rosemary
- on April 6, 2010
Hey, Danny, When I first saw your Cat in the Hat, I thought it might be something professional. Wowie, it was yours! What a nice job! I guess what makes me happiest is your enjoyment with art. I hope this will continue because artwork adds many happy times to your life. It's is great way to have fun and relax. Keep it up and by all means have fun. Love, Peapaw's Grandma

Dear Danny, I sure do love your watercolor maple leaves. You painted them with beautiful soft colors and a beautiful flowing background. I also like the way you drew the veins of the leaves and how you placed them on the "canvas." I wonder if I would be able to create such great art if I had your teacher. Love, Gramma
- on February 5, 2010
Danny, Your colorful leaves look like they were a lot of fun to create! Well done, Papa
- on February 5, 2010
Danny, Your latest art project gives me hope because I'm looking at actual leaves - I can't wait until the trees leaf out and we see blue skies more often. What makes negative and positive spaces? The colors are really nice. I remember the fun of a watercolor wash. Keep up the good work. Love, Grandma (Peapaw"s)
- on February 5, 2010
Danny, Nice work! a bit of a change from your earlier paintings. I like what you can do with water colors! PeePaw
- on February 5, 2010
Dear Danny - I really enjoy looking at your picture of these soft fragile leaves against that bright airy blue sky. I would imagine that those leaves came off a small spring tree that would have pale pink blossoms. I guess sometimes what we draw suggests to the viewer things that aren't even in the picture! That's what makes the view an important part of what you create. And by the way...congratulations on winning the spelling bee!! Wow, that's great! love, Great Aunt Rosemary

Danny - I like everything about this picture that seems to tell us a story. The rocket driver suited up in his protective outfit, has climbed into a very sleek looking rocket that will take rocket man off into that crispy blue sky at any moment. We can almost hear the engines beginning to rumble to a high roar! Great art work ! love Great aunt Rosemary
- on February 5, 2010
Dear Danny, What a great imagination you have! I like your outer space vehicle. It looks like a land rover for Mars or some other planet. I also like all the colors you used. Is that yellow streak a passing comet? Love, Gramma
- on February 5, 2010

Dear Danny, I must not have opened this old e-mail before, because this is the first time I've seen this art work. I like the silouette and the great contrast between the orange and black. Is this an outline of you? If it is, you look really cool. Love, Gramma
- on February 5, 2010

Hey, Danny Your rocket and driver both look slim and ready to go. They probably fly through the air with the greatest of ease, no? I'm sure you also included many special features that the viewers don't know about. I'd like to know more about your rocket. Nice work. Love, Peapaw's grandma

Hey, Danny, Your art projects just get better and better. This guy looks like he's really thinking hard about something. I sense that you are enjoying art more and more. I'm happy to see that you just like to draw at home (and soccer games) - I was just like that when I was your age. Keep up the good work and continue to enjoy! Drawing is a great relaxer. Hey, Dan! I really like how the dark branches of this tree contrast with the soft colors in the background. It's like the tree is looking at the sky and thinking that spring will arrive soon. I'm sure the tree is looking forward to warmer weather, a bit of rain, and lots of sunshine so that it can sprout it's leaves. Great job! Mom

Querido Danny, Your silhouette is marvelous - it's you all the way. Thanks for sharing your artwork with us all through the school year. Maybe we can continue with some art work during the summer (we always appreciate more stone art at the A-Frame). Again, thanks for sharing your work - we love this final piece. Con amor (a little Spanish practice) Grandma

Dear Danny, Another wonderful work of art!! I really like your background with all it's soft colors and the way your tree branches out. The "V's" of the roots at the bottom seem to balance the treetop and make it look "happy." (Do you think a tree can be "happy?.") Trees can be beautiful, even when they have no leaves. I always think of them as black lace against the sky. I love you and your artwork, Gramma
- on May 28, 2009
Cool tree Dan - looks a lot like the climbing tree in the front yard. Nice work. I love you! Dad.

Hey, Danny, Your complementary colored forms are very professional looking. They look to me like cool soft containers and I can only imagine what's inside each one. Nice colors and lovely neat work! Way to go!! Love, Grandma
- on March 25, 2009
Dear Danny, I love your new artwork! Your shapes are really precise and so is your weaving. At first, I didn't realize everyone didn't just place their shapes on a checked background. Complementary colors really make the shapes pop off the page, don't you think? Your shapes look very 3-dimentional and I like the way you positioned them. Art class is such a good way for you to show your great creativity. Love, Gramma
- on March 24, 2009
Hi Danny - I like the solidness of everything in this picture; its a great study of all the shapes we see, in a really pleasing, fun, colorful way. GOOD JOB! love, Great Aunt Rosemary

Danny boy, Your apple work is so good I think it should be on display at the Art Institute!! I love it - maybe it's partly because I love apples. Wonderful job - great use of space, background and color. Keep it up! Love, Peapaw's Grandma

Dear Danny, What a great fish -- so big and fat. His scales are amazing, and I like how the color of all his fins match his head. How did you draw so many scales all the same size? I also like the texture of the background. I think you like art class and the wonderful things you draw. Love, Gramma
- on October 20, 2007
Danny, Great job on your fish! It has so many scales! You must have worked very hard on it. I can't wait to see it hanging in the hall at school. Love, Mom

Danny! This looks just like a fish that your Papa might catch! I think this fish would live in a lake that Papa would be fishing in, but i think fish would be too smart to let Papa catch him! I like all the detail in the colored scales... VERY NICE art work Dan, keep up the good work. Love Great Aunt Rosemary

Hi, Danny, Your fish is terrific! I'll bet making the scales was a lot of work, but it sure looks wonderful. The black marker really finished it off, didn't it? I would like to see the fish when you bring it home, OK? Love you, Peepaw's Grandma P.S. When is visiting day for Grandmas at art class??

Hey, Danny, Your still life flower painting is great. The overlapping is so real you can almost reach out and touch the flowers. I can almost smell them, too. I can tell that you worked hard on the petals - great job. Love you, Peepaw's Grandma

Danny, Your artwork is really beautiful! I hope you enjoy art in first grade too. I Love You, Papa

Dear Danny, You are such a good artist! I love your still life painting of flowers in a vase. The colors are beautiful and I can tell the turquoise flower is in the front. Your background is also very beautiful. You have a talent for drawing things like Star Wars spacecraft, but now you are learning what artists learn and you are doing a great job. I didn't write to tell you how much I like your fish and your bow tie. Both are wonderful, but I think I like your fish a lot because he's cute and happy -- like you! I think you must like art class and your art teacher because she's a great teacher and has fun projects for you to do. Love, Gramma

Danny, Your figure looks great. You've been working so hard on it and your effort has really paid off! I wish I had some 3D glasses to look at it like you did at school. It looks like you used a planet stamp around the edge. Very nice. Keep up the good work! I love you. Mom

Querido Danny, Your snowman is fantastic. Is he made of clay? I have some special things made of clay by your daddy and tias Becky and Susan. They were made at Dryden School, too. I'll show them to you the next time you come over. I'd like for you to tell me just how you made your snowman - he is wonderful! Con un beso grande, Peepaw's Grandma

Dear Danny, Your picture of pumpkins is G-R-E-A-T!!!!!!!!! I love the colors of the pumpkins -- just like real pumpkins -- not all quite the same color. The sky is so blue and I can tell it's windy from your markings in it. It's exciting to see your artwork on the internet, too. I love you, Gramma
