I love this!! At first glance, it seems random but then you see where you were intentional. Love the complexity.

Maya, I love this exquisitely vivid drawing of a butterfly! Your artwork keeps progressing to new heights! Great work!

Sweet! It reminds me of "Waffle Sunday" that Ken and I often have. Great job!

You have me stumped, Maya. Feed my fish? Strong milky current? A song? This is so fun- I’m sure I’m way off. You’ll have to give me clues! The watercolor wash background is beautiful. Can’t wait to hear more about your symbols and inspiration!

Your black-and-white is mesmerizing. There is movement, detail, interest, and intrigue. How inspiring to follow your art journey. The other detail that startled me was listing your grade as 5th! Well, yes, I knew you were in 5th grade but it was such another sweet surprise. You are wonderful.

You just keep getting better and better!

Maya, I hope this is supposed to be funny because I’m a smiling big!! Really chuckling. Great use of color and snappy skate board. Are you the rider in rust? Lucky you. I like how the whole piece says clarity and power. Well done!! (Once again ??). ?? Warner

Not only was I impressed with the art itself, I loved the steady, revealing video. Assuming you can fold this and make two different scenes. Terrific. The vibrant colors enliven this. This art intrigued me. Well done, Maya.

A zine! What fun to personalize your very own. My first thought was a fabric medium, but I now realize stiff paper. Right? The choice of red and white gingham is joyous and inviting. I’m intrigued to read the rest of the zine. Well done.

Maya, your art gave me a sense of time traveling back before letters, words, and emojis. I'd love to know what you were talking and thinking about as you made this. While the symbols are intriguing, your silver background is awesome - like a cave wall. The subtle pops of color make this really eye-catching. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your art journey.

Wow. A most pleasing, colorful mandala. When I visit soon, I hope you educate me on mandalas. I love the reuse of the CD! Well done!

Maya, I’m familiarity coil pots - but nothing as creative as yours! The small snail coils and the blueberry-size nuggets. It is so fun. Plus the colorful glaze. This pit is awesome. I hope it was fun to manage the clay so it expresses you. Wonderful.

A lovely pot with pleasing colors. I think coil pots are difficult to make and you used so many shapes- very impressive!

Gorgeous! Love the contrasting blue with yellow. I also use the grid technique anytime I am working from a photograph. Well done!

I LUV it!!! You are SO talented!

My eye first went to the gorgeous butterfly, which seemed to be so animated and alive. Then I noticed the brilliant colors as hazy background. This is splendid. Thanks for translating environmental learning into art. ??

Your art reminds me to notice ALL art around me. Awesome to think of fruit packaging!! You are a skilled salesman, as your words make my mouth water! Thanks for including the water - so vital for growing. This was fun to review. ??

Super! Graphic design is another way to explore and practice art.

Wow. Each of those shapes grew from one point. There is so much depth there, especially with the shapes that have sharp edges. The crisscross oval reminded me of a cherry pie, and the light blue a skyscraper. Maybe this will make me look at the world differently! Thanks for sharing this!!

Excellent work! Once you understand the concept of perspective, you will use that for the rest of your art career. Kind of like algebra in everyday life—but you don't have to worry about that yet ;-))

Sensational! Love your colorful pieces.

Fantastic! Such a great combination of styles: yours, Silberzweig, Picasso, Frida and more! Art is a gift- keep on giving.
Posted 5 years ago by Linda
We now have a Picasso in our family! That's a powerful piece, Maya. I love the feel of the eyes and of course the great color choices.
Posted 5 years ago by Lulu
Wow. Beautful use of color and shape. Through your work I get to learn more about art (I had to google Silberzweig!) Creative way you balanced lighter and darker colors. Just like you are at the center of this art, you are at the center of my life, too. Keep being an artist!

Awesome blending of colors, Maya! If you studied the world of Andy Warhol, you have seen the pop art portraits that are in a quad (series of 4) using the same image but different colors. You should check out your Grandmother Joanne's quad photo as an homage to his work.

This is stunning! Is this water color? My favorite is the facial shading and subtle details (I guess the blank ink isn’t subtle, and yet a beautiful juxtaposition to the shading.). Whoever is your subject should feel proud! Well done.
Posted 5 years ago by Joanne
Fabulous! My eye never stops moving; the symbol is so dynamic in curves and motion. You’ve made it feel animated and not static. Using black and white made a bold statement. Seeing this felt like a short trip to Norway!

Love how you assigned your vision of color to the leaves!

Just love that you are learning about one of the historical branches in your family tree! I bet you can find the presence of the number 'three' in other places in spiritual history, too. I love the simplicity of your interpretation and the stark color palette.

An explosion of color! You added architectural features to the original work and made it your own. Beautiful!

Maya, I don’t know what or where Klee Castles are- but I want to go there!! If we go there, you could show me around. In this time when we can’t travel, imaginary trips can connect us. Your sky evokes a happy time, as does the sun. Is one a mosque? Such detail and use of color. Beautiful art, Maya!

Wow! You certainly captured the brush strokes of Van Gogh. Nice work!

Maya: Your artwork is so wonderful! It is nice to see you enjoying and creating ever more advanced artwork each year. We hope you keep up with your interest so that we can see and appreciate your artistic talent!

Awesome landscape! Bold yet nuanced colors. Following in the great style of Van Gogh. Your art gives me little windows into your mind and spirit - a wonderful place! ??

Writing down your goals is a fabulous way to start the year! This piece reminds me of stained glass and the colors are gorgeous. Enjoy 2nd grade!
Posted 6 years ago by Aunt Linda
Your goals are awesome!! They will make a better world for you and your family. You are an example of focus and discipline. Please share any book you write with me; I’d love to read it! My favorite watercolor is the orange/yellow one- scrumptious! Make second grade a wonderful time! Love, Gramma

Beautiful pinch pots! I used this technique in my pottery class, too and made from fun flower vases. You could create a painting from this photograph- wonderful colors and nice angles. Keep it up!

Wonderful! I love your color combinations. You also make good use of "negative space" which means the space that you do not use (in this case white). Inspiring!

Mandalas!! I’m familiar with the concept (vaguely), but your art prompted some research. Circles, unity, focus, meditation. All great ideas to capture in your art. I’m astonished at the detail and variety of designs. I hope making it was a meditation of sorts for you. Well done!

I’m curious the assignment that prompted these mobile characters in a field of different color. Each moved uniquely- and maybe their movement drew inspiration from their color. Looks like water color wash that is so awesome. Are you one of the characters? If you were working in a store, would you like to be the one arranging the manakins’ arms and legs? Thanks for this post. Your art is awesome.

What a splashy toucan! The bold black body paired with the fluid-like, magical, bright beak and feathers are awesome. Thanks for adding the leaves for context. Birds are amazing critters; I remember we saw some incredible ones at the San Diego Zoo. Memories!!

This might be my favorite! The colors are beautiful and the blending is masterful. I like the blue shadow under the leaf and the black really 'pops'.
Posted 6 years ago by Aunt Linda
Frida is awesome! I love how you incorporated the kitty on her shoulder. Interesting parallel to Frida's many years of confinement to her bed as she was in a bus accident that injured her spine. Now we experience a different type of confinement and art endures. Good for you!
Posted 6 years ago by Aunt Linda
Frida! Nice choice for an artist to replicate. My favorites are her eyes and eye brows. They make her alive and present. Great choice to emphasize.

Oh my!! That is the happiest, most elaborate rainbow ever! You’ve captured the intricacies of a colorful love bow. Your art show your open, generous heart and curious, beautiful brain. Thanks for brightening my day.

Whoa! Paper sculptures. What a great composition. The tower made me think of Italy where there is a famous leaning tower! This could already have a name, but if not, I’d call it Maya Meets Dr. Seus in Italy! Very playful.

I'm sure this is not what you envisioned when you created this, but seeing this reminded me of two prevalent themes in Mexican art: masks and skulls. You combined both here :-)

A 3-D, mixed-media masterpiece! I though of you this morning when I saw an art piece created using small pieces of leaves and flower pedals- positioned in a kaleidoscope formation. That's your next inspiration/assignment!

Love all the colors and the use of space is very ‘pleasing to the eye’. Good job! Your bugs are much prettier than the ones I am finding in my new city- one of oldest in the country and some bigs ones ??????

I'm a fan!! This is quite the elaborate egg- full of color and patterns with an element of 'random' added. A nice addition to your portfolio! Keep it up:-)
