I agree with you! I think this design represents you perfectly! Did you use a woodblock to make this, carving the block yourself?

I like how you used different values of the color black to contour and shape your whale. It certainly appears to be swimming in how the tail is curved around him/her. Did you know that, as a kid, Uncle Craig's favorite animal was the Killer Whale? We adopted one in his name from a whale rescue program when he was about your age. He was obsessed with them!

I didn't see this piece before. I really like it! Your horse's proportions are right on and I think it was great to use the band of your school's colors to create it.

I love the interplay and contrasts between your cool and hot colors. This piece really draws me into the work. I really like the complexity of piece.

Cool weaving, Maddox! Did you like learning to weave? Can you imaging hand-weaving an entire rug? Or creating a different color or fiber thickness as part of a design? I love seeing what you're learning! Nana

Maddox, Papa and I were really impressed with you yearbook art piece! I think it's remarkably good! You really have artistic talent. Love, Nana

I love this cover! Really matches the idea you were aiming for.

Maddox, This would make a great project to actually create a fabric cube! I really like the colors you chose and I'm intrigued by the designs you made on the three sides we can see. If you were to complete the cube, would you make the bottom side a solid color, like you did the top? We'll done!

Wow, Maddox! Your artworks just keep getting better and better! I love your tiger! I can’t wait to learn why you gave it different colored eyes. Your technique of fading the nose area from yellow to green to blue is terrific! Great job!

I'm in to this! Great work Dex. The color choices make this SO fun.

Wow! That is one colorful, busy picture. I can’t wait for you to tell me what you were thinking when you created it! If you could choose anywhere in the world to put this, where would you?

Maddox, I just love this! I think the light reflection on the outside of the globe is perfect! I don’t believe I would have thought of adding that. The background color is a great touch. What made you choose that color for a snow scene? You are a talented artist.

Maddox, I believe you are on the horizon of great things, like your name is on the horizon of a great new day! I love that you are so bold with your artworks and colors you use. Your work just makes me smile, just like you do! Love, Nana

Maddox, this reminds me of an eye. Please tell me about it and what inspired you to create this. I’m intrigued about the turquoise-colored rectangles. Your art is always interesting and I’m glad you can share it. Nana

Again you have shown your good eye for perspective! And I love the sunset behind the mountains. I’m puzzled about the blue square in the foreground - I’m thinking it may be a river. Let me know if I’m right.

I love that bright yellow sky in contrast with the very blue water! What was your inspiration for your choices of color intensity and subject? I love seeing how your technique has developed over the years.

Interesting fantasy creature! It is interesting how you left the negative spaces white, such as the outline around the eyes and the dots, and whiskers. I’m eager to have you tell me about this work.

Maddox, Papa and I are really impressed by the complexity of this art piece. I have lots of questions to ask you about this. Your concepts are very complicated and the ways in which you expressed them really makes me want to climb inside and walk around and touch them. Wouldn’t that be fun to do? I can just feel in my mind all the different textures and forms the patterns would take. Great job.

Oh, Maddox, I love your ofrenda to Onyx. It is such a special way to honor your love for him. He was such a special, good dog and Papa and I loved him too. You did a great job and your inclusion of an actual onyx stone was wonderful. Your ofrenda brought tears to my eyes and made my heart feel warm.

Maddox, I find your blue dot very interesting. I have some questions: 1.Did you choose the blue dot or was it chosen for you, or just the one you got? 2. Would you tell me what the writing says, as I can’t read it and I’m wondering. 3. What do the circles within the dot represent? And what are the words near them say? I really like your dot and I can tell you put a good amount of thought into your work. Love, Nana

Is it a heart? Is it a palm tree? Is it an apple? It is a great, imaginative design, again, by young Mr. Huey, who is known for such fine work. His grandparents are his greatest admirers!

Maddox, this artwork is wonderful! I love the movement you’ve created and can almost hear music playing. You’ll have to tell me your inspiration for this art piece.

Maddox, I think this is the best picture you’ve done so far! I’m really impressed with the detail you put in and how you got the proportions just right. I particularly like the light reflecting from it’s eyes. You did a really good job! I know you love owls, but this is so good!

Maddox, You make me happy seeing your artworks. I knew that Christmas was a favorite holiday, but I didn’t know that Halloween also was. I sure wish Papa and I could see you for Christmas! We love you.

Dex, how do you know about division?

You know I’m not a big fan of snakes (ask your dad about the boa constrictor that visited one time,) but I LOVE your snakes. Just don’t ask me to hold them
Posted 5 years ago by Nana

Seeing your snakes makes me think of Popcorn, the way he looks towards the top of the cage in hopes of being fed. Keep up the good work- you are starting to give backgrounds in your pictures which adds so much.

Papa and I love your Jurassic Park movie poster! That is one of Papa’s favorite’s too! Which kind is your favorite dinosaur? I like stegosaurs.

I LOVE this truck! I’ll bet your dad would love to have this truck although it would be hard to load the photo booth stuff into it. When you’re old enough, and have saved your money, what kind of truck will you buy?

I would have known it was you just by looking! It is a perfect self-portrait. I’m so glad I get to see your art and seeing how your talent grows. I love you.

Did you enjoy painting on rocks? I’ve never tried it. You’ll have to show me how to do it. I love how you made Hermione a cat. What made you decide to do that?

I hope you are proud of your work on your stuffie. By the pictures your mom sent, I could tell how well you concentrated on your sewing so that you would do a really good job. And you did! Sewing is a great skill to learn and I’m glad you’re learning it. Nice job!

Your Minnie and Mickey baskets are great! Are they racing to see who gets the egg? Where did you draw this? On the driveway? Or on the patio? I hope you drew it where the Easter Bunny is sure to see it. I love seeing your artwork!

I love this, Maddox! It is perfect for your new bathroom decor! I like how you used the basic design but made it uniquely yours. I also love how creative you are.

Maddox, I’m really impressed with your picture of the dog. Your proportions are just right, as are the colors! It reminds me of Lucy. Love, Nana.

Maddox, what an interesting piece of art you have created! It was an interesting choice to make the inside black and bubbly and the outside smoother and kind of like leaves tied with strings or vines. I can’t wait to hear about why you made those artistic choices and what you learned about the process.

Maddox, I love your new artwork! It is so colorful and expressive. I particularly like how you made the scarecrow’s eyes and the crows. Each crow has their own personality. You are becoming a very good artist!
Posted 6 years ago by Nana

What an interesting assortment of shapes and colors! And I love how each of them occupies their very own space within the circle. How did you design them to fit so well? Good organization, Maddox.
