Hi, Rhys! It is really impressive how you can do artwork in so many different media. I love how, even though this clay cup has different colors, they all contain the color blue. Even the purple, which is a combination of the primary colors blue and red. But, being an artist, you already knew that. Your great-grandmother Bobbie's favorite color is purple. She still has the drawing of purple flowers you made for her. Stay creative! Love, Grandpa C.

Beautiful art work, Rhys. Love the vibrant colors, and the detail!!!

Wow, Rhys, that's really ugly. Fooled ya!! Actually, it's the total opposite of ugly - it's beautiful!! It just bursts with color. The contrast is spectacular. I love how the bold colors at the top are so different than the more pastel colors on the bottom. That really makes the boats stand out. You are fortunate to have such wonderful eyes that allow your giant brain to be so creative. Looking forward to your next masterpiece! - Love, Grandpa C.

Interesting thing you have going on there. As shown, LOVE is backward and your name is forward. When you turn it over, LOVE is forward and your name is backward. It makes those viewing your art really think which way is correct. Regardless, it's beautiful! Love - Grandpa C.

That's really neat, Rhys. It looks like an artifact that archeologists would have discover at an excavation site. If people from ancient times had one of those pots, what do you think they would have put in it? I don't drink coffee but, if I did, that would make a cool coffee cup! I hope you create more art like this in the future! - Love, Grandpa C.

You made that? You're only 8-years old. It looks like it was made by a 30-year old professional artist. I think we have a child prodigy in our family! A fan is a useful item, especially in hot weather, but you made this one beautiful. Anyone would be happy to have it! Keep working to improve you skills! - Love, Grandpa C.

Let's see. Two animals (one of them a beaver?), facing in different directions, with a puddle of water or a cloud on crumpled white paper. Am I close? You really make your fans think! I love anything that is black and white. I just seems very classy to me. If I had a house, I would decorate every room in black and white. Hey, maybe you could design that for me! Great job! - Love, Grandpa C.

Wow, Rhys. That's beautiful! That is exactly what a flamenco dancer looks like. I love how you have her dancing on a green stage for color contrast and how the background matches her outfit. Even red shoes! I can almost hear the flamenco guitar playing. Maravilloso!! - Grandpa C.

Rhys - This is beautiful! The first thing that came to my mind when I saw it was autumn leaves falling through the night sky with an approaching winter snowstorm. Your artwork is always so expressive. What project are you working on next? I can't wait to see it!! Love - Grandpa C.

Rhys, I love the design of this piece. Love your use of colors, circles, and the variances within the circles. Your art work creates an emotion and a statement of emotion. Great work!!!!!

Cool! Now that's a treehouse I would love to play in. The colors are wonderful. You really placed it way up in the tree. Is that a rope or stairs that the person would use to get up there? Since you haven't been in school because you have been inside at home, how did you get your art work to your teacher for her to post it online? As usual, another great work of art by the famous artist, Rhys Carlson! Love, Grandpa C.

Rhys - I really love the pagoda you drew. The colors you used are wonderful and the intricacy of the rooftops is spectacular. I bet it took a long time to do those in such detail. You really put the size of the pagoda in perspective by drawing the little girl to the right of it. That's a very tall building! The background of clouds, birds, dragonflies, (is the yellow one a bee?), and flowers really makes the picture complete. You are such a good artist. I'm looking forward to your next masterpiece! - Love, Grandpa C.

Rhys - "Oooo la la" is perfect to describe your latest work. Basically three colors but, wow, how they jump out at us. The different shapes you made coming out of the central focal point are fantastic and make the work leap off the page. As usual, another spectacular creation. Keep them coming! Love - Grandpa C.

Alright now, Rhys. You're just getting to be too good as an artist! Your ceramic panda bear is fantastic. I love how you didn't just go with the typical black and white. Purple and green - how creative! I like how your art teacher had you paint pandas on paper earlier (2 dimensional) and now in ceramic (3 dimensional). It shows how you can work well in different media. I can't wait to see your next creation! Love, Grandpa C.

Wow, Rhys. You are really cranking out the artwork. You are very prolific. I like the way you show the dresses, one on the model and three on the dress stands. I saw your project was called 1st Grade Chibis. I looked up what Chibi means, and found that it is a Japanese slang word for "short". It looks like it also refers to Anime art. Once again, you created some wonderful artwork. Keep it up! Love, Grandpa C.

Hey Rhys! When I first looked at this, I thought you drew a movie star on the red carpet. But, when I read your artist's statement, "I love the runway so much", I realized you drew a model on the runway. I assume the figures on each side are audience members admiring the model and her stylish clothing. Great work once again! Love, Grandpa C.

How cool! You really captured the look of real pandas. Even down to the bamboo they are eating. Did you know that the first giant panda brought to America came from China in 1939? His name was Su Lin. I love your artwork, I love what you are doing in gymnastics and I love you! Grandpa C.

Well, Rhys, you have done it again. Another masterpiece! It's amazing how you have all those images and thoughts swirling around in your head and can turn them into great works of art for everyone to enjoy. And you are only (almost) 7. You have a whole life a creativity ahead of you. Make the most of it! Love, Grandpa C.

Rhys - Your origami creations are wonderful! It gives you another way to do 3-dimentional creations to add to your previous artwork. Did your art teacher talk about the ways origami is part of Japanese culture? I just read that it was first mentioned in Japan in 1680. That's 339 years ago! Now it is done by people all over the world. I would like to have an origami figure made by you so I can display it in my apartment. Keep up the great work!

Wow, Rhys, your artwork just keeps getting better and better. I love your latest piece because the dark elements are foreboding while the lighter elements show hope and promise. Great job in putting both those emotions together in your work. Cool that you are signing your paintings in the lower left corner, just like the professional artists! I look forward to your next creation. Love, Grandpa C.

Wow, Rhys. What a great job you did capturing yourself on paper. Your hair color, eye color and shape of your face are all spot on. Be sure to make some art projects on your own this summer so you can keep improving your talent as you go into 1st grade later this year. Thanks for sharing all your fine artwork with us! Love - Grandpa C.

Rhys: In Africa, they would call your dashiki "nzuri" which means beautiful. Your artwork around the neck and waist is wonderful. If your dashiki had sleeves, they would also be covered in art. What a fun project this was to learn about African culture. Great job, buddy! Grandpa C.

This is beautiful, Rhys! When you studied Mount Kilimanjaro, you probably found that it is a volcano in Tanzania and it is the tallest mountain on the African continent. The colors you used are wonderful and really make the dark mountain stand out. It really looks like the volcano is erupting. Great work, buddy. Keep it up! Grandpa C.
