Tell me about your story. I am so curious. I look for clues and wonder what the candle means and who is holding it and why? I love the original painting and now your changes. Surely a story in both versions! Love, Marmie

Dear Elsa, What a marvelous design you have created through repeating and repositioning the same block. This work shows concentration and thought. Are you pleased with the result? The painted background adds another layer of interest in the piece. I love that your art teacher varies your art making processes and materials. How lucky I am to be able to see your art postings on this site. Love, Marmie

Dear Elsa, I love your little Nisse - Every home should have one! I cannot imagine the class effort making all the little people. What fun it must have been to see the collection when everyone was finished. What a wonderful story they would have made. I cannot wait to see yours and where you have placed it, and to hear your story as well. I am smiling as I think and write this. I hope you had fun and laughter as you placed the red hat on his head. And smiled!!! Love, M

Elsa, I love your pagoda with your narrative attached. It is exciting to read your thoughts and the process you worked through to capture your ideas. There is an old pagoda at a Baltimore park which we must see when you visit next. The colors are bright and wild which are very different than the soft and calming pastels you chose. It will be fun to see this with city as background rather than your mountain. I am so proud of you!!! Love, Marmie

What a fun theme for an art project. Remember when we were fishing at the Peninsula and you and Jack caught a turtle, surprising us wildly. We sure screamed as it happened so quickly. I love your turtle with the interesting patterning on its shell. You filled your space making the picture even more interesting. I love getting to see what you are doing in art class. Hoping you are having fun!!! Love Marmie

I love this work Elsa. Is the sun rising or going down - either time of day I wish I was there on that exact spot. Your design is so interesting with the three palm trees on one side and two on the other and the overlapping of trees on the left is so effective. This definitely takes thought and a careful approach. Did you think of Hawaii or South Carolina when you worked on this painting? Wonderful!!!

Elsa, What fun - surely a body in motion. If you were to put it to music, what would be playing? Colors really pop with blue background. How love the way you accented that bold green with all the little dots. That must have taken such a long time. You really captured the style of Keith!! Love, Marmie

Elsa, this work is absolutely beautiful. I love the way each shape and form have their own space, fitting so nicely together but quite separate. And then the horizontal plane for house and trees scattered on the bottom seems like the perfect line to support the weight of the forms above. Well done!!! Love, Marmie

I love this and your color choices. This makes me think of the Titanic. Are these iceburgs in a dark night? What did you use to create your art? I love it, and you! Mom

Elsa, I love this picture. I can see the setting sun with the mountains and hills in front of it and the river flowing through. It makes me think of California and all the vineyards that your mom and I visited a long time ago. Keep up all the hard work in art class. Love, Dad

Elsa, This scratch art is amazing! The amount of detail you put into the feathers and all the other little details is spot on. Seeing the different colors as you scratched the paper and colored the owl had to make for a great surprise. Keep up all the great work in art! Love, Dad
- John (Father) on April 28, 2021
Dearest Elsa, I think this is the first time you have done scratch art. Your owl is amazing with all the feather detail and markings. Isn’t it fun and surprising to see the colors appear. The tree branch is the perfect resting place for your owl. What a great achievement. I love it and you!!!

Elsa, This reminds me of something out of a cartoon from when I was little. The drawing looks real and at the same time is very cartoonish. I could only imagine what it must be like to work in such a tall knife factory. I bet it is a lot of fun to work there. Keep enjoying drawing pictures. It makes me very proud to look at them. Love, Dad

Elsa, What a very cool drawing! It is so great that you are showing what someone else is seeing from their perspective. I can only imagine what the story is that is taking place. You truly amaze me with your detailed and thoughtful drawings. Keep up the great work! Love, Dad

Elsa, I see you have worked on another eye, so different than your last one with the details and scales. This one seems to tell a story as I see the reflection in the eyeball. I notice a girl sitting, she has black hair. Would love to hear the story. And of course, I see the butterflies about which I love. It all looks so green. It is not in the Smokies, that is for sure. I miss you and love you—Marmie

Elsa, What a great drawing! I can just picture the worm telling a story about St. Patrick's Day and leprechauns. Then all of a sudden the leprechaun appears in front of him and the pot of gold. The details of the gold coins is so good. It makes me think there is a ton of gold in the pot. I hope you had a lot of fun drawing this picture. Love, Dad

Elsa, The detail in this dragon's skin and eye is absolutely amazing. When I first saw this picture, I thought you took a picture of a dragon from a book. That is how detailed and realistic it looks to me. I hope you know how special you are and that I hope you continue to practice drawing. You definitely have a special gift. Love, Dad

Dear Elsa, How funny to see that little man’s feet. It is a bird’s eye view for sure. I love seeing the pink worm and I can really tell it is moving by the curly line. It must have taken a long time to make all those lines to represent the gold coins. I can tell you worked carefully to capture your story. I really am smiling as I look through this work and see all the interesting details. I hope you laughed a bit as you worked and had fun. Love, Marmie

Oh Elsa, I love the dragon’s eye. It is so smart how you captured the eyelids, upper and bottom, to show the bulge. Perfect for an eye that shuts and opens. The scales throughout are fabulous detail and so necessary to capture the eye and surrounding part of the face. I am so proud of you! I wish I had tried this project with my second graders when I was teaching art. What a great idea. Congrats to art teacher!

My Darling Elsa. I loved your recent work of house at Christmas. It is very interesting how you showed three levels. It also reminded me of the house where we spent Christmas together. All very happy memories. I particularly love seeing this house since I have not visited your house because of Covid. You got lots of great markers for Christmas. Keep up your art making and love of color and detail. All this makes your work so interesting. Wonderful study of house at Christmas! I am so proud of you! Love, Marmie

This is such a great picture. it reminds me of the Billy Goat Gruff story I read when I was a child. Everything looks so real and I am a bit nervous that one of the goats is going to fall into the water. Keep up the great drawings. Love, Dad

Dear Elsa, I am so pleased you are making art at school. I am having a difficult time seeing your picture. Please call me so we can talk about your work. I love the yellow around the picture, like a picture frame. And right in the center of your work is the yellow L and the building - what a great idea because the yellow inside makes me look from the frame to the middle. Great job! Your name really stands out And looks so cool. Keep making art.

Your panda has so much character, Elsa. He really stands out against the red background. I love all the details you added like the blue eyes and bamboo. Well done! I think this would make a fun card.

Wow, Elsie! You did a great job with your still life. I can see which fruits are in the front and which are in the back. I can tell you work hard to capture the stems on each piece of fruit. And you balanced the bowl nicely with a pear in the foreground and an orange in the background next to the horizon line.
- Rah Rah on March 22, 2020

Elsa, This picture is so cool. I like how the house, the snowman, and the tree all give you different depth perspectives. I especially like the icicles on the house and the animal sitting in the window looking outside at everything. Keep up the good work. I know how much you love art. Love, Dad

Dear Elsa, I love your primary color monster. The teeth really make it scary. Of the three colors, which is your favorite. I love yellow. It is a color I always enjoy seeing. Dear Elsa, I love that you learned about the artist, Mondrian. He always explored new possibilities in his art and the art world. He is one of my favorite artists. What a great job you did organizing shapes and used the dark line to make shapes stronger. His balanced art is asymmetrical. Did you learn that word? So excited about what you are learning in art. Love Marmie
