My favorite modern artist has created another exquisite piece; combining whimsy with a dash of realism. The warm colors, seemingly reminiscent of summer’s end and the dragonfly subject, a staple summer insect, create a work that appears almost as a memory. Perhaps this represents the artist’s nostalgia for the summer season. The detailing in the wings and body of the subject adds a welcome touch of reality to the memory-esque painting. It’s always appreciated when this artist reveals a new work, as they are always so reflective and introspective.

Yet another medium for this artist to conquer. The stitches add a complex texture to her woven canvas and are further evidence of her bold art style. The crisp lines paired with the extravagant 'B' state to the viewer that she is aware of her talent and is unafraid to include herself, using her own initial. Her own signature is as significant as the work itself; the color used for the 'B' is more distinguished than the border. Again, this artist has led me to reconsider the definition of art.

The usage of light and dark is visually appealing, yet confusing if taken literally. Unlike in most works featuring the night sky, the moon exists as an absence of light. The stars do not look distant; they look as though they are within the artist's reach. The only other white featured in this particular work is the foam on the peak of the waves, it is unclear whether the artist views the waves as positive, negative, or possibly, neutral. The sand on the beach and leaves on the tree are also light, which could reveal something about the artist's feelings towards her surroundings: literally and figuratively. The connotations of light and dark are not reversed in this piece, rather both seemed to be represented neutrally, with a sense of wonder. Even the northern lights are subtle, as though they were equally as important as the stars and island, yet less so than the waves of the sea. When viewed from left to right, the waves are leaving the figure. The artist placed herself in the left, possibly to represent that she is in the present. If the waves are her past, then her future is unknown. She is not bothered by that, she seems content. She may be expressing that since she was able to handle her last set of problems, she is confident she can also handle the future. The portrayal of time in this work is inseparable from nature. Both are outside of the artists control, yet she controls her response and reactions towards both. Another extraordinary piece from this artist. Truly, it is thought provoking and deep. The symbolism presented in this is original meaningful. She has redefined themes common in other works to create a meaning unique to her. Through her own introspection, the artist created a work unlike all others, while still making it relevant to her veiwers. The content of this work is almost inspirational yet certainly humbling, personal yet relatable, and calm yet overwhelming. (2)

Modern art has once again been challenged. A new, beautiful and significant work has been created. This piece features symbolism, an impactful message, and the redefintion of old concepts. The symbolism is heavy in this piece. To begin, the new moon, darker than the night sky appears to be a void hovering overhead. Yet the stars are noticeably large compared to the moon, the figure, and the surrounding environment. The ocean waves are overwhelming: rising far above sea level, outlined in bold black, and made into the focal point. However, these waves are moving away from the figure, perhaps indicating that problems once considered to be immense, are now in the past. The artist is acknowledging that even if her problems are now in the past, they were intense and real. The night sky acts as a background, but it is colorful. The colors are dark, but the viewer can easily distinguish lines of red, patches of green, and hints of purple. The artist has been known incorporate the night sky into works, so there must be meaning in it. Maybe these colors represent the northern lights. Also, the figure off on the left, alone on a small island, is likely the artist. In her prior works, she linked her name to her art style, and now, seemingly to make the work more personal, she includes a figure that is likely her. The rough waters are moving away from her, and she is smiling. She may be alone in this work, but she is not lonely. She appears to be appreciating nature, while emphasizing the largeness, the importance, of the elements compared to a person. This work is humbling; it reveals the smallness of humanity to the vastness of nature. A similar theme can be found in her Space Butterfly piece. She is not troubled in this depiction, rather calm. Very nice art piece! I love the turtle!

This work is unique compared to the artists other pieces. In this particular work, the artist uses her name as the subject, perhaps emphasizing her individuality within a competitive field, or even classroom. This could also reflect her confidence in her prior works; she believes that she is distinguished enough to be recognized by simply her name and art style. However, the artist could be using this piece as a bridge to attach her name to her art style; she may be attempting to gain popularity with the particular work. An art student who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned that, "while the background is mostly warm colors, her name is written in cool tones," suggesting that the artist may feel isolated from her surroundings or peers. The artist has recently undergone extreme changes to her environment; she entered the public school system and began riding the bus, potentially leaving her to feel uprooted from her previous life. Also, the background shapes, appear to be loving and happy; although, some of the hearts are only partially colored. These could represent others in her life that feel incomplete or insecure, a way for the artist to prove that she is not alone in her new experiences, even if it may appear that way at first glance. There is a smiley face almost in the center of the work, overlapping the letter 'Y'. Maybe the artist feels that someone in her life is particularly happy. But because the smiley face is the only one featured in this piece and it is so close to her name, maybe the artist is predicting that she will be the smiley face in her near future. This is one of the artist's more complex works, similar in that way to her space butterfly work, that reveal the artist's sense of individuality, of loneliness, of changes in her life, yet also understanding that she is not alone in these feelings. Interestingly, this piece reveals that despite the artist's current problems, she has a strong belief that she will be happy in the near future.

This is impressive. I'm really intrigued by the way the night sky is unfinished, symbolic of the way that the universe is continuously expanding and is therefore, not finished. Not to mention, how the butterfly that represents the human psyche in the myth with Psyche and Eros. Pairing the ever growing universe with humanity is an under explored subject in many pieces of art, yet done so well in this. So far my favorite work from this artist, and a good example of what modern art should be.
