Andrew, abstract art is a favorite of mine... and I enjoyed your piece. I enjoyed it not only because it's good, but because (as you said) you tried your best. Read where Kandinsky likened painting to composing music. Or as I would say... he was "lost in a day" when doing what he loved. As if time stands still, and there's nothing else on earth you would rather be doing. We're not all programmed to enjoy the same things in life, but we all strive to find what's right for us. Good job! -- Jane

Enjoyed your rendition of Rene Magritte's "The Treachery of Images". A nice play on words... the painting itself is not a pipe, but merely an image of a pipe. Makes perfect sense... the painting and words are on equal grounds. Your piece, like Magritte's, challenges others who have preconditioned ideas of reality - right? I did not previously know anything about Rene Magritte, but your piece inspired me to read more about him. In doing so, I found his imagery influenced Pop art, minimalist and conceptual art... and other well known artists such as Andy Warhol. Guess this is another example of us all learning from those who have come before us. Not a bad idea. -- Jane

Enjoyed your "Awesome Art" Andrew! It certainly looks great, and I was impressed by a few comments you made regarding the project. The fact you felt you had improved over time speaks well of you, as we all strive for this in our daily lives. And we all appreciate our work more when we take the time to do the best we can... even if it takes longer than we thought it should. Very Good Job Andrew!!! -- Jane

Andrew - I really liked all four of your drawings which used the "Outline Contour Drawings" technique. It's interesting how our imaginations work, but I have to say "The Raven" blew me away! The outline shape of "The Raven" really emphasized this piece, and the addition of lines within the piece add definition and dimension. The use of color shading also finished the piece off nicely. Who knew learning different art techniques could be so fun and enlightening! Fine work Andrew. -- Grandma Jane

Your "Sean the Sugar Skull" piece was cool... and reading your statement encouraged me to learn more about the Day of the Dead holiday and the sugar skull tradition - all going back centuries. I learned it is a wonderful way to celebrate the memories of loved ones who are now gone... not focusing on how the person died, but how they lived! I can see why you enjoyed making this piece Andrew. Art can be fun and a wonderful way not only to express ourselves... but to also bring joy to others. Thank you. -- Grandma Jane
