Finnley--I love your butterflies--moths? They shimmer and seem dream-like. They glow--Is this chalk? Fabulous lighting --like halos around them!!

This painting was in my garage window! It reminds me of Van Gogh and Starry Night and I know you were inspired by that painting! This is a very good re-creation of that famous painting. I love it!

Hey, Finn--You're interacting with an Egyptian! The past meets the present day--humans are not so far apart, not so different from each other. I love the way you paint with the techniques Egytian artists did--the blue eye with lines on either side, the colors in his hair covering, his snake-like jewelry. And there you are--almost like a trophy with your name and Egyptian symbols--the bird and the lion! Great job!

Hey, I like your perspective drawings: the shading on each figure gives depth and adds to the 3-D effects. When I was in fourth grade, I remember learning how to draw a 3-D box--never attempted other shapes. Maybe you can show me sometime?

Hey, Finnley— I do like your latest creation— I like how you paint/ colored the flower (?) Its pattern repeats— as Nature repeats patterns. I like how the pine needles and sprigs of pine bough are around the petals and inside the petals. Clever and imaginative! Christmasy, too!!

Finn— I like your self portrait with a smiley mask! I love the adjectives you use to describe yourself—smart, kind, nice. I would add COMPETITIVE, confident, and good looking!!!! Grandma K

Hi, Finn! I like the background— almost a tie-dye sunset! The sun looks angry, though—as if it’s tired of the clouds hiding its beauty! Winter can be harsh, but the sun looks determined to shine on all the sun-starved Minnesotans and Wisconsinites!!

Hey, Finn— I like your ceramic piece— but you’ll have to tell me about it. I see a closed door and open door or windows— of different shapes — a diamond, rectangle and triangles. I can’t tell what is coming out of windows— curtains? I would like to see this in person! But it seems as if you’re showing openness! — Love, Grandma K

Hi, Finnley! I love your cat!! (TJ and Ray would approve). I love the bright orange next to bold red/ pink! Striking! The green ears, eyes, and mouth stand out— . He does look a little sad— but he shouldn’t be: You created him and he is beautiful! Grandma K

Your penguin looks so sad— then I looked at his environment: the sun is big and hot— your background colors show green and light pink? — certainly not the place for a happy, safe Penguin! Global warming warning and showing the sad penguin is the result of our inaction. Is that what you were going for? If not, I still like it!!!

I’d like to know more about this piece of art. What did you use to create it? It looks like glass, but I don’t think it is. Is it a wolf inside the circle? I like the sharp triangles pointing to the wolf— who looks like he holds a place of honor in this culture! Tell me more! I’m intrigued!! I also like the bold colors— the greens and blues and orange-reds. I like it!!!

Finn— I love the colors you chose— so soft and beautiful. This is a beautiful picture!

I love the size, the presence of the strong cardinal. The bold red, yellow, and black against the blue sky stand out — the cardinals is the star of the scene! I like how the soft white snow on the brown branches soften the scene. The cardinal means very much to me— and to many others. He is brightness in the winter, and hope in the darkness.

Finnley, I really like your Indian “hide.” The teepees, river, arrows, people— it’s all very realistic. Keep up your creative artwork! Love, Grandma K! I also like the tourquoise, purple, and reds.!!

Hey, Finn! Your first artwork of second grade! To me, I see a mostly blue balloon with sections of multi- colored shapes—circles triangles lines, a red flower? Then the oval shape of the balloon itself— or is it a rocketship? Anyway, color makes me happy and so do you!! Grandma Carole

Hi, Finn! I love this Picasso-like drawing...You did such a great job of recreating it. It's cheery, cozy, uplifting, and Picasso better watch out! (or his successors)! I used to have this drawing on a poster in my room where I taught for 34 years--that's how much I love it. Your art class challenges you--brings out your talent--and I bet, is a lot of fun! Love, Grandma

Finnley, this piece reminds me of what an Indian purse might look like. It's bold--almost like a target, but the bulls-eye is big with primary colors that reveal the courageous spirit of anyone who carries it. I also like the cut fringes on the bottom--which are very popular now! Love Grandma

Finnley! This artwork is explosive--it jumps off the page. I love the bright red elephant, the blue bubbles, green tusks, yellow tail, and crossed eyes. Your picture makes me smile, and so I bought a magnet of it to put on my refrigerator. I also show my friends!! Love, Grandma

Hey, Finnley, I really this artwork: the back looks like a cave, and the simple drawing of the reindeer reminds me of prehistoric cave paintings I have seen in France. I especially like your hand-print--with your four fingers similar to the animal's legs! It's as if you wanted the future to know you were alive and an artist! Bravo, Finnley!

Hi, Finnley!!! I love your rainy day color wheel! The bright colors are brilliant— yellow jagged lightning on the left, a hopeful rainbow on the right! I especially like the rain drops —instead of small drops of rain, you elongate them— lovely as if we’re re watching them fall. The bright blue raincoat next to vivid red boots are awesome! Finally, the green grass says spring— and the purple flower with orange petals makes me smile! Love, Grandma

Finn, Before I knew you were imitating Mondrian, I recognized his style when I saw your artwork. I love the clean black lines, the bright primary colors, and how the bright crisp white blocks add contrast. Your artwork makes me feel happy and energized — as if it’s time for me to organize my desk drawers and drink bubbly 7UP!!! Grandma K

First I like the colors you chose— blue paper ( of course) , then lines of royal blue, bright red, and orange. You also. used squiggly lines of brown and smooth curving lines of green. It almost appears as if there’s a scary person with a white body and black spirals for eyes nose and mouth!. I like the variety of dotted lines and thr triangle of pretty blue and green specks- a calming effect. Bravo! Carole

Finnley, I'd like to eat your cupcake. I like the vertical lines of the paper holder, and the horizontal lines of the chocolate frosting. I also enjoy the way you chose similar, but not exact colors for the sprinkles and the paper holder. My favorite, though, is the heart on top. A cupcake made with love. Grandma K.

My friend saw the postcard I put on my tree of your drawing...the fir trees . She was so impressed, she wants me to send the link to her so she can follow you! This snowman makes me smile--as if his twig arms are waving at me and want to hug me.

I love this friendly snowman! I want to hug him! I also like how round he is next to the sharp angles of the snowy hills!

I love the crisp lines of the trees and the blues and yellows where we expect green. The yellows are like lights for Christmas and the blues like Blue spruces. But the blues also remind me of how cold it is— the white snow in the background contrast with the cold blues. I love this picture!! Grandma K
