I have always loved butterflies and love watching them get nectar from my butterfly gardens. Mariposa is such a beautiful nickname and you have turned into a beautiful dancing butterfly.

Love you G! Beautiful artwork and mariposas always remind me of you! I love that you found a way to configure your initials so meaningfully!
Posted 3 years ago by Michelle (Mother)

Lovely. Your choice of soft colors makes the piece very calming. As does the butterfly itself. You always do such nice work.
Posted 3 years ago by Jan

What great insight you have for a 12 year old. I'm glad your dancing continues to bring you so much happiness.

I love geometric forms. My neighbor colored a lot of Mandalas. She had some framed for her 4 grandchildren who are in their 20s. I always think of her when I see the coloring books in the store. But I found I don't have the patience to color them - I'd rather be reading.

Love the mandala with it's Saguaro cactus and butterflies. Good job.

Beautiful, Grace! Love the dress!

Somehow I missed this project. The balloons often flew over my house when I lived in Albuquerque and woke me up during the Balloon Fiesta. The Eiffel Tower was a good choice since most people will recognize it.
Posted 3 years ago by Aunt Lee

Good job and shows your love of ballet. I hadn't heard of the fauvism style before. I knew of Mattise but only later abstract pieces. I don't like most paintings any later than the impressionists except for Navajo artists.

I'm sorry to hear about the crack. Only way to learn is with practice. Love the description of who it is.
Posted 3 years ago by Aunt Lee

I can't wait to see this one on our shelf at home. Nice work Grace!

Scary cute!

Grace - This is AMAZING! Your deer's head looks great. Hopefully we'll see a few out at GaGa Brown's over Thanksgiving!
Posted 4 years ago by Dad

Loving it! Great design. Yep, even the deerz
Posted 4 years ago by Jan

I think you did a great job. I wouldn't have had the imagination to think up this scene at all.

Somehow I missed this one. You did a great job on the old house.
Posted 4 years ago by Aunt Lee

I love the fancy printing for the title. Great job.

Always wonderful artwork and whatever else you take on. You go Girl!!!
Posted 4 years ago by Jan

I think that your CROQUET wickets look great, Grace! That was a hard one to spell for sure.
Posted 4 years ago by Adam (Father)

Not hard to tell what story this is with the red queen and suits in the lawn. I bet it was fun to do.
Posted 4 years ago by Aunt Lee

I think it is so nice to start the year out with a mural that all students can participate in creating. I wish we could be up there so you could show us your flower.
Posted 4 years ago by Aunt Lee

Super cute, Grace! The picture here doesn't do the actual sculpture justice. This is one of my favorite pieces that you've sculpted! I like the big googley eyes!
Posted 4 years ago by Dad

This project was tailor-made for you, Grace! Beautiful work! I love the Zia hot air balloon and the detail that you show of the stitching & the square panels. It looks just like the ones that Mommy and I saw when we went to Balloon Fiesta before you were born!
Posted 4 years ago by Dad

Lov’in your seascape! Well done!
Posted 4 years ago by Jan

I love that you found a way to include a butterfly, Grace! Beautiful art!
Posted 4 years ago by Dad

Looks AMAZING Grace! I think my favorite part is all of the tiny twinkling stars. They look so REAL! And super-cool use of the airbrush and blending. How much fun would it be to explore that purple planet?!? Nice work!
Posted 4 years ago by Dad

This could be a typical group of winter activities even when I was in elementary school in the 50's. Dad made a skating rink in our back yard where the vegetable garden was one year and we had a park we called the "Big Hill" at the end of our block where we'd sled. Of course then, we didn't need any adult supervision if we were 8 or older unlike today.

Love your comment about patience. I thought of a dancer as soon as I saw it. As far as different colored legs, she could just be wearing black tights.
Posted 5 years ago by Aunt Lee

Grace - I LOVE this! I could tell right away that she was doing a ring jump! Maybe the different color wire represents a new pair of purple tights that she's wearing with a grey leotard? Love you!
Posted 5 years ago by Dad

Great job but hard to do all that in the time you have to complete a picture. I wish I'd had your teacher in elementary school. I've always wanted to draw but we never learned perspective or much else.
Posted 5 years ago by Aunt Lee

Beautiful, Grace! Now that you mention it, I can definitely see how she could have been a softball pitcher. Great job and soooo creative of you to pivot to the dancer! Love you!
Posted 5 years ago by Dad

I always love to see collaborative art in the schools. This one gives children a chance to see how the color spectrum works and they can show their parents how their work fits in with all the other children's. I hope you have a great time in your art class this year.
Posted 5 years ago by Aunt Lee

Beautiful, Grace! We'll have to see if GaGa Brown still has our cuckoo clock that we bought when we lived in Germany when we go out to Galena in July.
Posted 5 years ago by Adam (Father)

Beautiful, Grace! Make sure that you put Japan on our list of places to visit once the Pandemic is over!
Posted 5 years ago by Daddy

Great job. I've seen a number of pagodas in the many botanical gardens I've visited in the US and Canada. Some are small stone garden ones to very large ones. The largest was a brick one built in 1761 - yes that date is right - at Kew Gardens in London. We passed by it while on a river cruise to Hampton Court Castle on our honeymoon. It is 10 stories and 163' tall. It was just restored and starting in June people will be able to climb to the top. I'm assuming this is a Japanese pagoda because of the Tori gate.

Nice job in an unforgiving media.
Posted 5 years ago by Aunt Lee

Wow - Great detail, Grace! It's a good thing that we just watched "Hercules" last week!
Posted 5 years ago by Adam (Father)

They look amazing, Grace! Love the color choices and the details!
Posted 5 years ago by Adam (Father)

I loved these as a child but don't think I ever had any. I love the angel on their dresses and NM features in the background. I see the Land of Enchantment has you in it's grip.
Posted 5 years ago by Aunt Lee

Another one that I knew what it was immediately. I love your artistic license with a cat on top instead of a snake and a falcon! I hope you are having fun in art class.
Posted 5 years ago by Aunt Lee

...and I just noticed all of the hieroglyphs. Great detail! Remind me to show you pictures that I took of the Rosetta Stone when I was at the British Museum in London way back before you or Owen were born.
Posted 5 years ago by Adam (Father)

Whoa, Grace...that's REALLY good! I love the cat at on his forehead...I'm sure you liked that more than a snake? :-)
Posted 5 years ago by Adam (Father)

Wow Grace - Nice work! The combination of your mask and the crazy hair is pretty cool!
Posted 5 years ago by Dad

I could tell without reading the description that you were studying Picasso. He's not one of my favorite artists but I like some of his drawings like Hands with Flowers. My parents had a set of his Don Quixote sheets and a print of Don Quixote on their bedroom wall in the 60's.
Posted 5 years ago by Aunt Lee

This looks like a very happy butterfly!
Posted 5 years ago by Aunt Lee

So creative and beautiful, Grace!
Posted 5 years ago by Adam (Father)

Great job, Grace! I know how hard you worked on this one and it turned out perfect!
Posted 5 years ago by Adam (Father)

Such a fun sun and fits right in with a NM room.

We have a lot in common although I also love the mountains. Did a real good job on the sea life and the saguaros are classics. Did you know the are over 75 years old before they start growing their first arm? It starts out like a little bud on the side of the cactus. Just think how old some of the ones are that have many 8' arms. Our friend in Las Vegas had two babies in his back yard - about 10 years old and between 5 & 10 inches tall!

Nice bird's eye view of the ball park and area around it. Should be a lot of shade in the summer with all the trees.

What a friendly looking lion. I've forgotten the story so will have to re-read it. Keep having fun with your artwork.

I always liked all of Aeosup's fables and knew right away which one it was. One of my favorites.
Posted 7 years ago by Aunt Lee

I can't wait to hear the story behind this one, Grace! Love you!
Posted 7 years ago by Daddy

Knew right away it was the NW Indian's Raven trickster. My parent's brought me back a large ink on handmade paper drawing of one when they visited the NW the first time in the 70's. I had it in my bedroom until I got married to Dave. You did a great job on wash, sunrise and mountains. Here in the SW, it's Coyote who is the trickster.
Posted 7 years ago by Aunt Lee

I love it, Grace! It reminds me of the Sandia mountains in New Mexico! Love you!
Posted 7 years ago by Daddy

Such a cool piece of art, Grace! I'll bet that was a lot of fun to create! Love, Daddy
Posted 7 years ago

As usually a great art idea for the students. I love the way the arm and heart look like they really are floating above the paper. I'm surprised Cool came upas a word and all the peace signs you put on the hand since they are from the 60's when I was in High School!

I love the zig-zag pattern on the snail's body! -- Daddy

This was a great year to do this. I can't believe all the rain/cold weather you have had. Nice cloud, sun, rain, lightening and rainbow -- Aunt Lee
Posted 7 years ago

Great job, Grace! If April showers bring May flowers; what did your teacher say that May showers bring? It hasn't stopped raining all month! :) -- Daddy
Posted 7 years ago

I'm afraid Matisse is too modern for my tastes but you did a good job on this painting. Nice positioning of the vase and flowers which look like they could be glass compositions. -- Aunt Lee
Posted 7 years ago

So fun and colorful, Grace! I love your butterfly! -- Daddy
Posted 7 years ago

Good job. You made a nice tight weave and all the colors are about the same size so no one square stands out. -- Aunt Lee
Posted 7 years ago

Nice work, Grace! It looks like a jumbled puzzle waiting for us to put it together! Love you! -- Daddy
Posted 7 years ago

I think art would have been more fun if we did things like this. It's great that you are learning different techniques and about different artists. These four hearts show how much different the techniques make them look. Good Job. -- Aunt Lee

I love penguins. My mother had a friend whose husband was the head ornithologist at the Detroit Zoo. He went to Antartica and brought back the first penguins displayed there. They are so much fun to watch when they are swimming. -- Aunt Lee
Posted 7 years ago

What a great penguin, Grace! Remind me that we need to watch Happy Feet soon...maybe tomorrow when there's no school because of how COLD it's going to be. It's good penguin weather! Love you. -- Daddy
Posted 7 years ago

Aww. Too Cute! You must like penguins. It reminds me of the picture of the penguins you did with the cotton balls. That image is now a glass tile in my yard. -- Jan
Posted 7 years ago

I don't remember art being this interesting. You are lucky to have such a great teacher. I don't remember anything about art class except one time we had to make a picture with our initials. I had no imagination and couldn't think of anything to do with LLL. -- Aunt Lee
Posted 8 years ago

Good job. Don't know a lot about Miro but once I read you were studying him, I remembered what his paintings looked like. -- Aunt Lee
Posted 8 years ago

Looks like you were wishing for warmer weather. Nice tree and reminds me of jumping in piles of leaves when I was your age. -- Aunt Lee

Posted 8 years ago

Definitely a rainbow fish. You picked some colors that look very nice together and I like the tiny eye. -- Aunt Lee
Posted 8 years ago

Love the colors of the background and dots. I like the way you used the 3D effect to make it look like leaves are in front of the trunk. -- Aunt Lee
Posted 8 years ago

So pretty, Grace! Those dots look like the sprinkles on your Christmas cookies after they come out of the oven! -- Daddy
Posted 8 years ago

Another great group project. It certainly shows how working together can have a great impact but each of you can put your own personality into your feather. -- Aunt Lee
Posted 8 years ago

Great idea to get all the students to participate. Was it hard finding your contribution on the wall? -- Aunt Lee
