I know you worked very hard on this project. Proportions and shading on people are hard in general and I think you did better than many people (including me) could do. I do think that if you were going for happy a smile or sparkle in the eyes would have helped. The dark background and flowers give it a Spanish flare which is great since you are so good at Spanish.

I LOVE the expressive green eyes. In those eyes (just as in yours ) I see sorrow, hope and joy.
