What a Kool Kat! I especially like its little toe pads :)

Oh my gosh, what a cute little Clay Kitty. Love you, Gompa

Oh, what a cutie! Is that a Buckwheat bobble-head? Must have taken a lot of time and effort, but a fine result, right down to the paws. Maybe we can do a ceramics day in August. Love, Nana

This owl has personality! (Or should I say, birdsonality?) I am impressed by the expressive face, the shading you did that makes it look fluffed up, and the leafy background. Hoot, hoot! Love, Nana
Posted 3 years ago by Melanie
This is a fascinating piece! I love the different textures -- the figure on the right seems made of coral and the one in the middle all feathers -- and how the figure on the left is kneeling.
Posted 3 years ago by Auntie T
Kaia, I can see and feel the movement in this piece. Makes me want to dance along! Nice use of mixed media, and I like how the figures step outside the inner frame. I wish I had had art experiences like this when I was in school. And I wish I had a costume like the figure on the right! Love, Nana

Nice project, lots of folds and nice color selection. Gompa
Posted 3 years ago by Gompa
Hi, Kaia. I find this kaleidoscopic piece very engaging. The color choices really make the central parts pop. Good on ya! Love, Nana
Posted 3 years ago by Melanie
Wow! Kaia, that is cool! It looks like folded paper…is that right? The folds look mathematically perfect! I love the way you arranged the bright colors on the black background. Love, Yaya
Posted 3 years ago by Linda
And I just discovered your name!
Posted 4 years ago by Melanie
Oh, Wow! That is a stunning piece. I love how the different sized circles draw my attention right into the center. And the star seems to change from background to foreground, moving in and out. Optical illusion? Really made my day to encounter this piece. Love you, Nana
Posted 4 years ago by Melanie
Oh, Kaia, it is beautiful! And I love the colors! But I can’t tell what the medium is. You will have to tell me how you made it. Love, Yaya
Posted 4 years ago by Linda
Kaia, This looks really cool. It looks like it could be on a tile. Then if you had a bunch of copies, all on tile, you could use them for a floor or on a wall in a bathroom or kitchen. You sure do some fun things in art class.
Posted 4 years ago by Gompa
Nice piece! It's so delightfully symmetrical. Is it done with pastels?
Posted 4 years ago by Auntie T
Cool artwork. I don't think I would want to catch one of those fish/creatures. It might bite or stab my hand.
Posted 4 years ago by Gompa
Quite an intriguing piece. I guess you would call it mixed media? I'm enjoying the flow of the colors and the bits of shine. Can't wait to see this in person in August. Love, Nana
Posted 4 years ago by Melanie
Wow, does that fish ever stand out! Really like the design work on the fish, and the colorful background, too. Definitely something to treasure. Love, Nana
Posted 4 years ago by Melanie
COOL ! I love the colors. It looks like a prehistoric creature.
Posted 4 years ago by Gompa
Whoa! How cool! Looks like something I'd find in the deep sea, if I could dive down that far.
Posted 4 years ago by Auntie T
Oh, I like this, Kaia, but he is scary! You made the background look like the deep, dark sea. ??Yaya
Posted 4 years ago by Linda
Hi Kaia, Very nice weaving. To me it looks like blue water flowing up and down, and red/pink water flowing side to side. I love the texture and pattern on the gold foil on the edges. Love, Gompa
Posted 4 years ago by Gompa
I love it , Kaia! ROY G BIV That weaving must have been fun to do! ??, Yaya
Posted 4 years ago by Yaya
Wow, this is a wonderful Dream Catcher. You should have some Amazing Dreams after creating this piece of art.
Posted 4 years ago by Gompa
Oh, I love this piece, both the intricate design work and the watercolor wash. You must have worked very hard on it. I'll be interested to hear how you created that symmetrical pattern on the dream-catcher. Did you use a compass? And is it painted with pen and ink, or did you use markers? I'm wondering if you are you going to put this over your bed. That would be a great place for it. Love and miss you, Nana

This painting fills me with absolute Klee! :) What jumps out for me are the glowing school of fish, the texturing you did, and the intriguing blend of colors in the background. Love ya, Nana
Posted 5 years ago by Melanie
Love these fishies! Did you paint the background first? or draw the fish first?
Posted 5 years ago by Auntie T
Hi Kaia, I loved the Klee fish. It looks like something you might see while snorkeling in Hawaii, like maybe next summer. Love you,
Posted 5 years ago by Gompa
Wonderful birds! I love how they share some characteristics, while being so different. I'm curious about the techniques you used here...
Posted 5 years ago by Auntie T
Hi, Kaia. I guess I didn't comment on much of anything last year. I love how this tree blends into the world outside it. And there are so many figures to explore. I'm glad I have gotten to see this and more of your artwork face to face! See you soon. Love, Nana
Posted 5 years ago by Melanie
Hi, Kaia. I never got around to commenting on this piece, I guess. I love the textures and colors you used. Interesting how the head of the figure is not completely on the page. It kind of broadens the picture out into the room. Love you, Nana
Posted 5 years ago by Melanie
Hi, Kaia. Love your folk art birds! All three unique and equally cheery. See you in 11 days! Love, Nana
Posted 5 years ago by Melanie
This is another nice piece of artwork. I like how the tree is hidden in the background. It is camouflaged. A cozy home for all the cute mice.
Posted 5 years ago by Gompa
This is a very interesting piece, Kaia. The designs in the various pieces of the quilt make it appear to have thickness and softness. Looks inviting! You seem to be having sweet dreams. :) I looked up Gustav Klimt's art. His love for women showed in his work. I like that. Love, Nana

Who knew that a pumpkin was really composed of ghosts? Pretty terrifying, although apparently not to the raven. Thanks for talking to us today. We wish we could see you in person! Love, Nana
Posted 6 years ago by Melanie
I like your new artwork. Does it have a meaning? You are sure doing a lot of artwork this year. It must be fun doing creative work.
Posted 6 years ago by Gompa
Hi, Kaia. I meant to comment on this piece, but I guess I forgot. I am drawn to the vibrant colors, the sturdiness of the figure, the creative way in which you painted the jeans, the hair (it seems to be moving), and of course, the hands. I don't understand what a "Mini Fig" Self Portrait is, but I love to look at this picture! Love you, Nana

Kaia, I find this "Longest Line" piece very intriguing. I think about Africa when I see those bright colors and designs, and it's interesting that some of the panels are intact, while others are broken. Can't wait for you to describe how you made this art. And is "The Longest Line" a story you read? Maybe a story I need to learn??? Love you, Nana
Posted 6 years ago by Melanie
Hi, Kaia. This is very cool. It looks like you worked on canvas or textured paper? And with colored pencil or pastels? I will have to find out more when I talk to you next. The color scheme and design are very engaging. Love your creativity! Love, Nana
Posted 6 years ago by Melanie
Oh, Kaia, nice watercolor. Those paints have a mind of their own, so you never know just what you'll get. But they give such interesting textures. I love this, especially the background, which seems celestial. So glad to see your art work again! Love you, Nana
Posted 6 years ago by Melanie
Very interesting artwork Kaia. Was it done with water colors? The little baby chick is cute.
Posted 6 years ago by Gompa
Very creative, Kaia! I love it! Yaya
Posted 6 years ago by Linda
You used quite a variety of colors in this project. With warmer colors on the outside and the yarn circles in cooler colors, I feel pulled into the center. It's like I am looking through a portal into space, where a dragon is flying! Love you, Nana
Posted 6 years ago by Melanie
Kaia, I really like the latest artwork. It must have taken a long time to do all the painted parts and dots. The yarn weaving is very interesting. I love the pink dragon in the middle.
Posted 6 years ago by Gompa
How cool, Kaia! I thought you had stitched those pieces together, until I saw the title of the project and realized it was made of paper. Interesting shades of color and design! Love you, Nana

Kaia, We both love your colorful quilt square! It would make a beautiful bed quilt! Love, Yaya and Papa

What a cool iterative project! Did you go out into Asheville to draw the buildings?
Posted 7 years ago by Aunt Tyera
Well, Kaia, what a change in your landscape! You've added another medium (material) and a new layer. I love your majestic buildings. Are some imaginary? How fun to see this piece grow! Love you, Nana
Posted 7 years ago by Melanie
Hi Kiki! I love all the colors that you have in this painting! You've painted my favorite part of seeing the mountains and all the shades that you see! I love you and can't wait to see you soon! Love, Aunt Holly
Posted 7 years ago
Hello Kaia, Wow, that is a lovely piece of artwork. I love the different shades of mountains, they look like ones Nana and I saw on the Blue Ridge Parkway. And a pretty sky. You will need to tell us how you made it. Paint? Tissue Paper? Some of each? Love, Gompa
Posted 7 years ago
Hi, sweet girl. Grandpappy and I loved your work of art. The colors are bright and the distance shown by mountains is great. Keep it up, Honey!
Posted 7 years ago
I feel like I am in an airplane, gazing out the window at the Blue Ridge Mountains! This must have been fun to create, with paper and paint. I remember doing lightning bug landscapes together over the summer. Now you'll have a different landscape to enjoy! Love you, Nana

Cool, Kaia! Art and Science come together in a very interesting way in your picture. It's fun to follow the ball (idea?) through the machine. Your artwork this year has really been special. Love it! Love you, Nana

Cool Artwork. It reminds me of your Marble Creations. Those red marbles have quite a path to follow: up ramps, down stairs, falling, rolling, through a spinning fan, a tunnel, and turning on a light. Did I miss some things? Wow, there is so much happening to get that GREAT idea. I love it!

So glad you are getting to do some weaving! Did you enjoy it? It reminds me a little of the plastic canvas needlework we did last summer. It will be fun to hear from you how you created this, and to see it hanging in your house. I love seeing the different forms of art you do! Love you, Nana

Kaia, you did a great job weaving! I love your use of ROY G BIV for the rainbow colors!! Love, Yaya

Hi, Kaia. So happy to see this snow art! We had snow here yesterday, but not that much. I love how your snowdrifts mound like blankets next to the trees. It is interesting how you made some objects look closer than others, too. The birds seem to be facing different directions. (Is the cardinal eating snow?) Looks like you are trying new techniques! Much Love, Nana

Kaia, Very Nice smow artwork. Maybe this was what it was like a few weeks ago when it snowed and you all stayed home from school. Look at all that snow coming down. What an enormous snow man that somebody made. Love the eyes. Love you,
-- Gompa

Very nice Scarecrow. He is doing a good job guarding the crops. It looks gloomy and even windy out there. But he seems to be enjoying himself. Almost looks like he is dancing. Keep up the good work on your artwork.

Kaia, what a snazzy scarecrow! I love the clothing you designed, and I can almost see his legs and arms moving. Cool! Love, Nana

It was really fun to be there in your Art Class the day that you created your brown bunny. How exciting to hear the teacher announce to the whole class how you were making the multiple colors of background by dabbing your water color brushes on the page. And I love how one bunny ears folds over.

Cute bunny, Kaia! And I love the background. How did you do that? Love, Yaya

Kaia, I really like your Snow Bear. It looks so fuzzy and cuddly. And all those snow flakes must have taken a lot of time and careful dotting to make.
-- Gompa

Love your very furry, huggy looking bear! I sure wish I had a fur coat like hers (or his). When I look at the scarf and trees, I can almost feel the cold wind blowing. Thanks for sharing. I love you. ~ Nana
