Hmmm...musical interpretation. So if I was to name this piece, I'd say "Forest Sun", because to me it looks like sunbeams penetrating a dark forest. I'm really interested to know what you were listing to and what you were thinking when you created this, Derick. Love, Grandma M.

So I looked up M.C. Escher, and what I gleaned was he worked with repeating patterns. And I see the repeat in your creation. So interesting how you did that. The V'd chin of one face forms the ears of the next face. And then there's the focal point, the face with a red forehead and nose, the blue antenna-like lines, and the black legs and feet that protrude from nostrils. It really got me thinking, Derick. Which is what art is supposed to do. I'm curious as to what sparked this image. Excited to talk to you about this creation. You always surprise and delight me!!! Love, Grandma M.

To me, this looks like a football, propelled by a firry combustion that hurls it through a defensive net. As a metaphor, the football is you, Derick, and represents your intention, fueled by your truth. Intention and truth are diverse, yet specific to each of us. This drawing gave me pause, made me think, and had me smiling. :) Wonderful, Derick!!! Love, Grandma M.

So...I googled Termesphers, and still don't understand what a six point perspective is. I have no doubt that you understand it. And it delights me that a South Dakota artist created this perceptive. From my limited understanding, it's an inside out view. So, if I'm standing in the middle of your soccer field, grass and giant trees are surrounding me, and beyond that the deep blue sky. What a fantastic view!!! You must have so much fun creating this vision. Thank you, Derick!!! Love, Grandma M.

WOW!!! If this was a piece of cloth it would make a beautiful garment. Very colorful, and symmetric. I don't know what all the symbols mean, but when you visit next weekend you can enlighten me. Great work, Derick! Love, Grandma M.

Derick, oh what tangled web you weave. I see fish, and people with Egyptian-like arms. A face turned sideways in the center. Fine filaments and bolts of electricity binding everything together. It would be fun to hear what others see when they gaze at this print. It's kind of like a kaleidoscope that changes with each viewing. Love, Grandma M.

Derick, this is so vivid it makes me want to wander down that curvy path and up into those snow-capped mountains. I particularly love the waterfall streaming down the hills, the gazing pool surrounded by rock. And that swath of yellow!!! Like a magnificent ray of sun, or maybe a corn field. Beautiful work!!! Love, Grandma M.

Derick, the geometrics of this WOWED me!!! And the repeating wavy lines, both vertical and horizontal. Almost like a grid, yet reminiscent of sonar sound waves. And then there's the bursts of paint. All of it combined is like a world in the process of creating itself. Very cool!!! I always look forward to see what you will create next! Love, Grandma M.

Ahh, the instant I saw this I thought of Gerogia O'Keeffe, and then I read that it was a project based on her. Skulls were always prominent in her work, and she married them with the vivid colors of the southwest. I've seen some of her paintings when I visited Taos, and, oh my gosh, Derick, you have captured the spirit of O'Keeffe superbly!!! Well done!!!! Love, Grandma M.

YOWZAH!!! that shark caught my eye! What big teeth he has! The sea horse is pretty cute, and the big-eyed crab, too. There is so much to see here, from the coral to the algae to the sweet gold fish. Great use of depth perception. Well done, Derick!!! Love, Grandma M.

This is really interesting, Derick. It reminds me of a map, the bold blue of oceans separating continents, and the black outline gives shape to different countries or states. Every time I look at it I see something different. Very beautiful! Love, Grandma M

This is very interesting, Derick. I'm following the lines, and out of the lines something grows. It is green and alive. Is it a lovely leafy vine, or a beautiful creature with green arms and legs? It gives me pause, like a luxuriant exhale in the midst of summer, and makes me smile. Love, Grandma M.

Derick: Wow! That does look like a really, really scary creature -- In fact I'm not sure if it is a really scared person, or if it is a frightened animal. And is it frightened, or it is frightening the rest of us. That must have been quite a story that goes along with it. Keep up the good work -- you're a good artist! Love, Grandma and grandpa Allen

Derick, I love your "Wild Thing". He looks kind of scary, but I know he's friendly. And brave too. I have the book "Where the Wild Things Are," and when you come to my house we can read it together.
