Congratulations from my Family for your award. Your passion for teaching our children does not go un-noticed. I shared some of your projects with a co-worker of mine (we share an office) and he nailed it when he said “it is nice to see a teacher with true PASSION for their career and passing it along to your children. You should be grateful”. We truly are grateful for you and all the staff at Dryden and the Dryden Community as a whole. Thank you for making Dryden the best place for our kids education.

Congratulations on being included in Anthony Salcito's look at heroes in education. The work you are doing with your class and the sharing of what you do with others through your movies, blog, website, and presentation is definitely trail blazing. It's great to see how you show that technology can be integrated into the making and teaching of Art and still have a personal touch. You definitely have helped and inspired me and I'm certain many other Art teachers. Thanks.

Hello Tricia- I must say it is so good to see such a talented and amazing person receive such attention. I had stumbled across your students (of course and your) work about 5 years ago ad loved it! I think I may have even dropped you line at the time asking a question about "Erasers". I too have long believed in this type of learning for kids (I taught the G/T kids for many years before becoming an Admin. (yikes when I say that I still want to cry!) the year I wrote to you I had created a summer activity for creative kids and we did movie making...alas, the joy! Anyhoooo- I have shown the "Flicks" time and time again to students teachers and many, many more! You are gifted and you are a gift to many! God bless!

Your websites are WONDEFUL. I discovered them this past semester as we were going through some major revisions of our art education program to begin incorporating a lot of instruction in and with technologies. I gave a presentation to School of Education Faculty and staff that included some examples from your website. One of the Innovations Technologies staff members has been spending the summer tracking down and exploring a lot of the apps you recommend. We'll be using them next semester. If I had discovered you sooner - I'd have begged you to be a presenter at this conference. I won't pass up the opportunity for the next one!

My students will be painting their Robert Indiana inspired words today. Thank you for developing the objective line of "Our Wish for the World". I wanted them to chose their own words, but wasn't sure how to set the stage. You are always so clever with this! We have been looking at some of your student's paintings during class and we are excited to share ours with you when they are finished.

Hi Tricia, You and your classes’ videos are so inspiring. Your videos are a part of my art classes with my students. I’d love to have you train me somehow to manage similar video projects with my classes. Perhaps you already offer an opportunity such as this. Either way, I’d be very interested.

My name is Therese and I teach art at Waterbury Elementary School in Roselle. I've come across your schools' art from browsing on Artsonia and I'm so happy I did, because I'm a new teacher and I'm always on the hunt for great lessons and you have some wonderful ones! Today, I am doing the Lima Bean monster lesson(I actually found the book on my ipad!) and it's going great! Thanks so much for the inspiration! :)

Hello. I recently read your article on iExpress through Teachers Pay Teachers. I am very interested in completing the project with my 2nd Grade students this year. We have worked on Macs and my class really enjoys technology related projects. Your article lead me to this site which I also found very exciting. Do you still have projects from iExpress up? I would love to show them to my class to get them started."

Hi Tricia, (Ms. Fuglestad) Congrats on being such a innovative and creative teacher. I saw the students work on the PBS website - fabulous! I just finished my Masters in Education (new teacher) and I love art (drawing, painting/gauche, pastels) and would love to incorporate more art it into my classroom. If you have a minute(s), would you mind sharing pointers or suggest classes that teach the technology you used in your art classes? Thanks! If you ever need an assistant for the day, I would love to volunteer. Regards,

OMG Tricia, the radial images are fantastic. I was trying to use Photoshop Elements last year to create copy and paste pie shapes (in an effort to tie in an extended digital learning experience for my students), but it just seemed like it would be to difficult for kids, so I scrapped it. Where in the world does this kaleidoscope effect exist? This looks like it would be soooooo much more do-able. I am so happy I had a minute to check your gallery this morning. What a way to start the day! Have a Creap-a-licious day! Suzanne"

Tricia, Thanks so much for sharing your amazing talents with the rest of us art teachers. I have shown my students of few of your videos & they can't wait for more! I am trying to learn how to do something like that, but even with the technology skills, I just don't have your music/lyric writing talents! I just submitted a lesson on artsonia, in which your "Bye Bye Road" was part of the lesson. Do you mind if I include the link & your name in the resource section? (my students still sing to themselves... goodbye distant things, hello closeup things... as they are drawing! Thanks a bunch, Tami Altoona, IA

Hi Tricia, I really enjoyed seeing the artwork your kids have made (and the videos too!). I wanted to ask you about something... it looks like you use a painting material that 'overwrites' paint -- like on the Haring project for 2nd grade. Can you tell me what you use? Is it paint pens? I just love the look you get! Thanks, Claudia (I teach art in ohio)

Tricia airs an enthusiastic and infectious persona. I can’t help but get hooked on her videos and songs. Using new media techniques, she has on display; numerous videos and slide shows of interesting, interactive, ground breaking and just plain fun work from Dryden Elementary School. My biggest addiction on her site is ‘Young Sloppy Brush‘, a touring paint brush that explains the importance of looking after your art materials. Absolute Genius.

Hi Tricia, I first wanted to say that I have been looking at your website for the last year and check it frequently, you are truly an inspiration! I like the lesson, “what is art” where the students are standing in front of the frame…how did you manipulate the frame in the photo? I can only assume the artwork is not really in a frame and that is the actual picture…or is it? Thanks for your help, I would like to try it out at my school!

I love to visit your website. I'm interesting in starting to use Artsonia for my students in grades 1-4. Is it very time consuming to photograph and upload each students artwork? That is the only thing I'm concerned about because outside of school I'm pretty busy with working on my masters degree in Ed. Technology and my family. I really like the idea that parents can go online to view and comment on their young artists and even purchase products with the artwork on them. Art teacher from Ohio

I am an instructor at Pratt Institute in New York, teaching a course called "Teaching Technologies" in Pratt's Art and Design Education Department. The class is made up of Art Education majors who are exploring digital technologies as teaching tools and for creative possibilities in their art classrooms. It opened up blinders for them, was truly inspiring, and they have many questions for you.

Hi Tricia, I'm sure you get this kind of email all the time! I've been a fan of yours for four years now and I just had to contact you. I have a BFA in Graphic Design as well as having my PK-12 Visual Arts License. I love technology like you do. I have never written a grant but I'd really like to try to get a grant for a Smartboard or a Mimeo. I saw that you have a Smartboard in your classroom and was hoping you could give me some ideas/ways you use it. I am a Mac lover and I even bought my own laptop because the iMacs in my classroom are starting to crash. You must have a wonderful program at Dryden. Do you have your own computer cart of laptops? You do so much with technology. How do you find the time to make the short films with the students? What kind of schedule is your school on? How often do you see the kids and for how long? I'm sure that's enough questions...you are a busy lady! I'm in my 4th year of teaching and I'm starting to burn out a bit. My district hasn't allowed me t

I have admired these fun paintings of kids faces in glasses at my daughter's optomologist's office in Torrance, Ca. for some time. (Dr. Ann Simon now, but used to be a Dr. Schwartz' office years ago) Do you have any knowledge about these? They have your name signed. I run the library at an Elementary School in Redondo Beach and am toying with the idea of commissioning a few for our library- if that is something you do? They are just so fun and captivating. If it's some coincedence with your name & the art pieces, then I apologize for the inconvenience. Thank You in any case, Mrs. Cathy V Torrance, Ca.

I am an elementary art teacher in Arlington, Virginia, and I was really impressed with your work on Artsonia! I loved the 3/4 portraits you did with your 3rd and 5th graders, and the "It Came with the Chair" 2nd grade lesson, especially. I noticed you use black outlines when painting with your students, and if you don't mind, I am interested in learning about the process/technique you use when teaching this to your students. Do you layer and collage these works, or create your painting on one paper? I loved the interesting depth that the patterned background creates. Also, would you mind if I tried the chair lesson at my school?

I check out your Artsonia page often for new ideas, and, thanks to our new Interwrite Board, we watch your Fugle Flicks as a treat at the end of class. My favorite is "Be green when you clean" but the kids are partial to "Be kind to your erasers". Your site is the one I always turn to, to refresh my ideas for lesson planning. You are a forefront runner with your integration of technology. I did have a question though.....all your finished artwork looks extremely polished with the black outlining. What I can't figure out is whether you have them use sharpies or paint to outline the finished projects? Even your first grade projects demonstrate a neatness and mastery that is hard to find. Keep up the inspiring work! Thanks for the ideas!

Good Morning! I just love this web site!! What a wonderful way to show off the kid's are work! I am the lady that did the walkway in downtown Arlington Heights. I met Isabella during the summer and adored her. I would like to showcase the School's art in the walkway this Spring. Who would I contact about putting together an outdoor show for the kids in the walkway? I think that their art would be fabulous for the community to see AND for the kids to show! If you have not heard of the Walkway, Google my name and there will be articles from the newspapers about the walkway. It would be a fabulous medium for the kids to show in. Fena

I am always looking for new and innovative lessons for my kids and saw your iPaint drawings on Artsonia. How did you do these?(if you don't mind sharing) They are awesome!! Your tecnology capabilities are also unbelievable Cute songs. I wish I had your talents. I'm sure you are told that all the time. I have not sent my kids work to Artsonia but am thinking about it. Are you well pleased and are there any drawbacks! Well, if you get a chance to write back, that would be great. Hope your day is wonderful, Melissa

Ms. Fuglestad, I just had to write to compliment you on your awesome school website and for all the great work you have published on Artsonia. I am also an Elem. Tricia, I really enjoyed watching a few of your videos. Sloppy brush and contour line are two that I will show in my elementary classes. Last year was my first year and I had a few that showed no respect for tools or supplies. What fun reinforcement! Thanks, Shellee Art teacher in ND

Hi Tricia, I saw your videos on teachertube. You do a great job and they really address some great things in the art room! Did you do the one with the scream? I was wondering if you would be willing to share that assignment. I think it would be perfect for my 6th graders. It looks pretty self explanatory except for the photo part. What program did you use? How big were the pictures? Thanks, Kelli in NE

Hello, I want to compliment you (I am sure you get a lot of compliments) on your video concept combining ideas with music to make learning fun. I have been looking for ideas to do an ipod image with my 4th graders when I came across your iExpress video. I was wondering how you began the lesson, and if you gave choices of words the students had to express or if they had to come up with them on their own. I was also wondering what medium your students use and how you had such a high success for your students to create the silhouette so accurately. If you do not mind helping a 2nd year art teacher out, I would really appreciate your expertise... (or even if you shared your lesson so I could adapt it to a higher grade level!) Thank you, Rachel C

I wanted you to know, I am so impressed with the quality of work your students make, especially the craftsmanship. I am a K-8 art teacher and have some students who do excellent in craftsmanship (no brushstrokes, etc.), but you seem to have everyone doing it. What is your secret?

Hello again Tricia! It is me again, Kathryn A from Old Kings Elementary School in Florida. You are just amazing! I see that you use a lot of tempera paints with the kids. I have a ton of liquid tempera in bottles in my supply closet from the previous teacher. I'd like to get the kids painting more. I am unsure of myself when it comes to using the liquid - how to dispense it to the kids - how to set it up for the students to mix - any advice and tips you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million. Kathryn

Tricia- Your germs look fantastic! I also love your monochromatic dogs! The work you do with your students has been inspiring me and my students as well. We not only view your artsonia pages, but we also enjoy your videos...especially, "sloppy brush" and "black marker". Your iExpress project is such a hit. Prior to starting that project, I ran a slide show of all of the iExpress ads your kids created. It caused such a buzz in the art room. It's teachers like you who make the rest of us better. Thanks again, Suzanne

Dear Ms. Fuglestad, You are amazing!! Our grandsons, Danny and Adam, are very lucky to have you not only as a terrific art teacher, but as a wonderful role model. I say that because it's evident that you are so much more to your students than an art teacher. Our boys are so happy with their art projects and having them posted on Artsonia. Also, it seems your methods and art projects develop the students' self-confidence (not that our two need it!). Two Lucky Grandparents, Joanne and Ken

Hello! I love your art projects. I teach k-4 art in Novi, Michigan and have done so for 12 years... I would like to try some of your ideas. I am wondering how you do some things. I'm amazed that the little ones filled in ALL of the white spaces. I see such a nice black lines on top/around paintings. How do you get the kids to do that? Are the snowmen pastel drawings chalk or oil pastel? They look great! Also, does a parent take all your pictures for you? I assume it's very time consuming. Thanks so much! Emily

Tricia, Your kids' artwork is impressive and your website is so delightful!! Thanks for the inspiration! I first found your school when you posted Corduroy last year. I started that project again today so made a quick visit to your bears. Can I borrow your Wild Things idea and video too? Did you do that project on 9 X 12 or 12X 18? Very impressive for first grade! How often do you see each class? More than my 45 minutes a week, I reckon! Keep up the great work! Sandy, Needham Elementary, CO.

What an inspiration! I happened upon your website from Artsonia and was amazed and dazzled by your efforts you have put forth. I would love to find out what software you used for your movies or flicks. Elementary art problems seem to be universal. I am waiting eagerly for a flick involving the care of paintbrushes. We do a little skit involving Doctor and nurse with injured paintbrushes. Wish I had your talents for creating them. My students have loved watching them. I also am interested in your \"Where the Wild Things Are\" lesson. Trying to figure out which media you used. Would love to here from you. My fellow art teachers think it is Fuglelistic.
