What a startling tree! I think it does matter what you paint...AND...then it matters a great deal what paint you choose. Working together this red weepy foliage on the starling black trunk and branches create such an extraordinary statement of energy. -- Rebecca

When I first see this weaving, I think of a lake with the mountains on the far shore, with snowy tops and a dark storm looming. It is a landscape. And then I wonder if it is upside down. If the blue were the sky, I would see a dark lake, snowy fore ground melting to bare cold earth. Whichever way, or whatever the intention, the colors and flowing movement are truly beautiful. -- Rebecca

I think your observations on this artistic opportunity are very insightful, Zoe. I especially love the bold red background and the black shadow on the right of the piece. I also like the strong green lines on the orange gourd in the center foreground. Overall, a striking composition! -- Rebecca
