This is a very different assignment. I understand that the hero is a veteran. I don’t know who needs to escape. I am curious if you enjoy this type of artwork graphic with words more than painting a landscape. To me the hand looks like it’s holding a candle to light the way. Overall well done.

That was an excellent description of your process and techniques. I keep a sketch pad and some colored pencils in my car, so when I pass something I can do a quick color study. I use a photo for the details.

Hi Maya, the colors are really vibrant. The crisp edges of the rocks show how rough and jagged they are. You did w wonderful job showing the splashing water. My suggest would be carry more of the very cool blue color that is next to the rocks further out into the ocean making the dots / lines of color smaller and smaller to enhance the illusion of depth in the same way that you made the sun so small on the horizon. You can also make the rocks feel wetter by putting some color from the water with just a bit of the sky color, orange in this case, on top of the rocks so it looks like There are puddles. Ocean landscapes can be very challenging. Excellent job. I define am putting one of your pieces on my wish list for Santa!

Maya, I am interpreting this as a color exercise. I am wondering if maybe you could post a comment explaining the assignment, and what your interpretation was. When I displayed my artwork in exhibits, I often had to put an artist statement. It helped me to focus on what it was about for me. When I look at another artist's work, I don't read the artist statement first. I really look at it and consider my first impression. Then when I read the statement it can be startling how different my take on the piece was from what their intention was. This is the true beauty of putting ourselves out there and showing our work to others. You never know where it's going to take people.

Hi Maya, Excellent representation of your name. The mountains are very powerful statement right at the beginning. The notes floating up into the Y shape gives it some movement. The pencil finishes with punctuation. Covers your interests. Well done. I’m looking forward to seeing more.
