Esther, I love this new artwork. I especially love the chartreuse with the blue. I so wish this was a fabric! Great to see what you are doing right now. Grandma

Esther, This is wonderful! The sky is amazing, the shading and the blue mixed with white for powerful, graded effect! I love the black silhouettes of trees and house on the snow and the well-done shadows they cast along with the shading on the snow. Great piece! I ordered some Christmas cards to send using this piece! Thank you! Grandma Raylene

This is a beautiful winter piece, Esther, with your careful trademark on those perfectly tipped branches. The white on black tipping of limbs is wonderful. I ALSO LOVE the moon backdrop in shades of orange and lime green, Hail Citrus Moon! Love it, Esther! Beautiful contrasts! It would make a lovely Christmas card!

This "jewel work" look is wonderful--crystalline, sparkly, glass-work like, dew drops and suggesting shattering. I can't even imagine how you got that look. Wonderful, Esther. Grandma Raylene

I sent you a card but did not make a comment online! I love the sharp silhouettes of this seasonal piece. Lovely precise sharp angles give it a dignified spookiness. The pink sky over orange and green haze sets off the black silhouettes beautifully. Is there a witch shape at the top of the tree? Is the cloud whale-shaped or is that just me looking for a symbol? :-) Great work! Grandma Raylene

Great hot air balloon, Esther! I love the way you got height by your placement alongside clouds, sun, and sky! The hot air balloon is very precise. Nicely done. No rickety machine, this one! No one in the gondola? I know why I wouldn't put anyone in gondola. BECAUSE I AM AFRAID OF HEIGHTS! Or, perhaps your person in the gondola is cowering on the floor of the basket which is why we don't see the person. Or, perhaps you have a runaway hot air balloon on its own in the sky. Which is it? Esther, this looks like the pottery from Poland that I have always loved. We have a place here in Topeka that sells it. Next time you come to Topeka, let's go look at it. You will have to tell me how the designs are similar. I love the intricacy of your flower, the contrasting yellow center, and especially the orange and blue together. Good work, Esther!

Ah, a venture into space for 2018! I like the shadows you got and the exquisite planet rings. I love the little yellow tennis ball planet that pops in the starry background. Fun, Esther! Good work! Grandma Raylene

Esther, this is meticulous! I marvel at your miniatures and this piece has some of that amazing and careful attention to detail which takes time and patience and a very good eye to merging the patterns from one layer of the cake to the next! Good work, fabulous artist!

Esther, These birch trees and the puffy snowflakes make me shiver, like I was there. An artist evokes emotions in the viewer--and that's what you've done for me. Thanks. Great piece! G Doug

Esther, This is spectacular! I LOVE BIRCH BARK and brought lots of it back from Minnesota. You will see it in my Christmas decorations. The sky, birch bark, shadows are all professional, to my eye. I am making a canvas of this one. You'll see it at Christmas. LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT. Grandma Raylene

Interesting graphics within fields and shapes, Esther. This feels like a smart and mature piece: landscape lines, abstract shapes, logos, and symbols buried within fields and a horizon. Really smart. Some shapes remind me of Native American petroglyphs! Good Work!

Esther, I LOVE these random shapes! I love the way they tumble behind your name. I know movement was part of the assignment and I love the way the letters in your name ascend and descend in a linear pattern over the floating shapes. So, I like the yellow emphasis on the key letter in your name, E. And I love the white leaf or evergreen tree shape in the upper righthand corner. I especially like the way white works against the colors for a splash and gets attention. I love the spiral which is a Chaco Canyon symbol in the petroglyphs and a Greek circle of life I wear on a necklace. This piece has so many wonderful ideas to comment on. You already know I love the fact that there are THREE ORANGE letters in your name--more than any other color. The T in red is very dramatic and cross-like. WOW! There is so much going on in this piece. I loved it. One could almost study it in an English class as an artifact. Tell that to your English major mother! tee hee :-) GOOD WORK!!!

LOVE your symmetric butterfly, Esther. I like its stylized look which creates an art butterfly and helps us to see the parts of an actual butterfly. I love the way you mixed colors and the head which appears to be observing the person observing it! The wings are spectacular with unexpected butterfly colors, not just the normal "Monarch" look, but these creative turquoise and yellow patterns on purple, the orange stripes with little polka dot pools. THIS IS STRIKING! Grandma Raylene

Esther, I really like the colorful, busy composition of this piece. It has lots of small pieces but together they form a single image. I also like the "implied texture" you've incorporated, with the outlines of the hearts and the lines separating the four quarters suggesting a bumpy edge. Very nice!

Somehow, Esther, these "swarming hearts" reminded me of butterflies. Maybe it is because I am eager for the butterflies to arrive! I loved the small floating hearts. Good work! Grandma Raylene

Esther, Your Matisse still life is fabulous. I loved looking through the window at the scene outside and the perspective with the flowers close by and the distance in the window. I think the flowers are on a table with a cool table cloth with random green and yellow circles, correct? Very nice detail--wall paper, the great black window frame, the variety of flowers. Excellent work, Esther. I am thinking I want to look outside a window and see a tree covered with green leaves. Maybe by May? Good work. Grandma Raylene

Esther, I love your fish. We actually have a fish collection by Esther at our house. Grandpa especially loves this fish. In fact, I ordered a Christmas ornament with this fish on it for Grandpa! Perfect! The scales are so well done and I like the pink tail. The colors are wonderful. Grandma Raylene

Esther, I sent you a postcard with this one, I hope. On it I told you what I especially liked, so here is a little poem: A circular mosaic like a walking path The center blue sun the strongest color Like chips of glass around the center bath I like the red chips: the others are "duller." Good work, Esther!

Esther, My favorite part of your tree is strong limbs of the tree, almost like a human hand, holding up the the green growth. I also thought interesting the pink cross-hatched sky like sunset colors, and the layers of earth in the horizontal lines, especially the orange base! Good work, my dear Esther. Grandma Raylene

Great, Esther! I like the way you used the purple for the foundation color; I know you like purple now. Also, I love the green between the purple and blue. I also thought you did such a good job on spacing with the dots which gives the landscape texture and depth. Good work, Young Artist! Grandma Raylene

Esther! Terrific owl! I love the proportions. I like the way his horns look like what we called a "mortar board" which we wore to graduate for college. The owl is known for wisdom so that is a perfect symbol. Great purple WISE OLD OWL!! Good colors--the blue wings, the great eyeballs! I love this one. I may have to put it on a t-shirt when I get home. Grandma Raylene

Wow, Esther! Now, your Monet. After your Klee cat! You are learning important artists. I have two Monet prints I love hanging in Aunt Vicki's guest bedroom where we sometimes stay in Nebraska. Maybe this next summer you can go with us to see them. Your Monet looks a little like them! Good work again, my Artist Granddaughter! Love you, Grandma Raylene

Cool popsicles! I love the blue on the orange background. That one really POPS! (Like the pun?). I also LOVE the exclamation points which could be drips, licks, exclamation points for yumminess . . . OR??? I also love the rickrack backgrounds! Grandma Raylene

Dear Esther! I just got your cupcake and it is beautiful. I want to lick it on my computer! (Bad idea!). The sprinkles are so wonderfully placed and the cherry looks like a maraschino! Perfect. Good work. Now, if I could only eat it! Don't you think it would be delicious? Love, Grandma Raylene

Dear Esther, What a beautiful creation! It makes me think of an old-fashioned crazy quilt made with bright colored fabrics and cool overlapping "stitches". Nicely done! Hugs, Gramma Karen

Wow, Esther! You are starting to look like Picasso! I love these overlapping shapes! Great work! More abstract than you sometimes do. Good one! Good to try many different forms and art styles, my little artist!

Sweet Esther: I love this work, especially the contrast of the curves of the fruit on the background of regular grid lines. You have a special gift for saying things with images. Thank you for sharing them with the grandpa and grandma who love both you and your art!
