What is that candy doing in each frame????? Love your groupings. Seemed like this piece should be on a placemats. It makes a sweet tooth like me happy! Something striped in each group. Fun to sort out!

Wow!! Love this creative take on left brain and right brain interpretations, Em! Good work!

Loved this ethereal look of ornaments as planets. Ordered this for my Christmas card. It is lovely. I like the greens, their feathered look.
- Raylene on January 12, 2022

I love the careful detail and the color! Smart and interesting shading I live art pieces that surprise in some way! Good work, Emmeline.
- Raylene on January 12, 2022
The word that comes to mind when I see this is "twinkle," this eye image twinkles and, once again, makes me smile.
- Doug on January 12, 2022

Orb = sun, planet or star. Circle or circular orbit. AND MY FAVORITE FOR THIS ART PIECE is the poetic use, which is "The eye, as luminous and spherical. There is also a translucent sphere appearing in flash photography. I love this. I kept thinking of it as great illustrations of the concept of "orb." GOOD WORK, EMMELINE!

I especially like the movement of colors from cool blues and greens to the redhot center of orange upholding red and yellow. Nice bursting and ruffled effect. I especially like the chartreuse green!
- Raylene on March 10, 2021

GREAT 3-dimentional gemstone effect!
- Raylene on March 10, 2021

This is so cool, its mixed media, radial movement with "wheel spokes" which sort of elevate the yard center into three dimensionality even on the print. I always wonder why my eye is drawn to the orange in the circumference and in the "petals." Just my color! Enjoyed this, Emmeline. Good work.

Emmeline, There's something very soft and gentle about the colors, the shading, the shapes of these candy canes. They make me smile. Easing into the Christmas season. Nice artwork!
- Doug on March 10, 2021
Love these candy canes. Already ordered some Christmas cards with this artwork. Black framed with the word "Joy." I like that these are shaded and multi-colored rather than standard red/white. Thanks, Em, for the Christmas card motif. Grandma

Yippee. This is a great winter landscape for Christmas cards. I will be ordering some of these. I loved the choice of colors, a kind of solemn Christmas in black/white/purples, with purple shadows. We all know that this Christmas we are still dealing with this pandemic, so I think your mood is very right. Love the sun. Love the experiment in color. Good work, artist kid!
- Raylene on March 10, 2021

This is wonderful. It reminds me of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico. I am going to have some cards made to send to my Hispanic friends who would love this. It seems like you are using pencils this year for much softer colors, yes? I like the way the yellows and browns and greens around the edge say fall. Good work, Emmeline! Grandma
- Raylene on November 4, 2020

Lovely seasonal piece, Ms Em. I kind of like the soft colors, almost watercolor-like on this one, especially with your words about fading colors and leaves. You got the section lines on the pumpkin perfect. Here's my couplet: Only the stem still strong in the soft fading colors of fall; And the leather pumpkin a reminder of how I love football! Good work! Grandma

Love this riff on Van Gogh, Emmeline. AND LOVE YOUR STARLIKE SUNFLOWERS. The purple and orange background is great too! I might need to order a canvas of these for when I bring out my sunflower decor this summer. Good work! Creative! Grandma Raylene

Emmeline, LOVED this winterscape on a BLUE MOON. "Once in a blue moon . . . " BEAUTIFUL. I ordered Christmas cards with your blue moon. I may write a Christmas poem to go with the card. The full moon in November is the Full Beaver Moon. The full moon on December 12 is the Full Cold Moon. That fits! :-)
- Raylene on December 4, 2019

VERY Jackson Pollock, Ms Emmeline. I love it! I am not normally a big purple fan, but I really like your use of both purple and white in this piece. Isn't it interesting how if you use less of a color (like orange in this piece) it stands out by its scarcity? GOOD WORK, granddaughter of mine. Very fine.
- Raylene on November 13, 2019

It's spooky time. I like your silhouettes which are nicely done and distinctly show the shapes with the cutouts. Very precise artwork and the black silhouettes are set off nicely with the pink sky of twilight, right? Good work!
- Raylene on November 13, 2019

LOVED your cactus, Emmeline. It reminded me of the Saguaro National Park I saw in Arizona a couple of summers back. Good work. Something about the lifted arms of the cactus made me happy this morning! Thank you.
- Raylene on November 13, 2019

The central popping blue and purple are great leading to the spiral in the center, a wonderful petroglyph symbol and believed by the Greeks to represent the circle of life, as I have on a necklace I bought many years ago on a Greek island. My favorite? THOSE VIVID BLUES! from Grandma Raylene

Terrific verticality, Madame Sweet Tooth. I love the height, pile upon pile of purple ice cream dotted with goodies and topped with whipped cream and cherry. GIVE ME SOME! What is elegant, though, most of all, is the carefully balanced scoops (four!) creating that lovely LONG ice cream possibility. I can't help but think of the balance it takes for even two scoops. Nicely done, Ms Emmeline!

Delightful mauve-toned fish! Great facial expression. The striped fins and tail are a whimsical nautical touch! And what a sweet fish face. Grandpa is going to need this new fish for his grandgirl collection. Good work, Emmeline. I especially like the color combinations! Grandma Raylene
- on December 1, 2018
Very nice piece of art, Emmeline. The shades of color on the fish are striking--and interesting. And I like the smile! Your fish pictures always make me smile! G Doug

Great color, flow and patterns. I like this! Predominant royal blue and aqua set off in pink, yellow and orange waves. Turned out very well! Grandma Raylene

Are you EMMIE now? Or was your name too long? I like it. The big orange E is perfect for fall. I like the way it balances the small yellow e. Now, do you see the green spiral as a hieroglyph as the Native Americans used it or do you see it as the "circle of life" as the Greeks use it (like my necklace)? I like the background blues and purples. Grandma Raylene

Emmeline, Beautiful, I love it. Sergeant Pepper would love it--ask your mom and dad! G Doug

You know me, I went straight for the orange. I thought I saw GOLDFISH????I like the abstract hearts sort of bleeding into one another. Interesting foursquare design. Is this mixed medium? Or all watercolors? Hmm, a really interesting piece that takes some study! (Except for the hearts. I am seeing a pink crawdad opposite the gold fish. Or is it more abstract than that? I do recognize hearts! Grandma Raylene

Why does this look like a stained glass window to me? Is it the concentric rings around the flower? I like it! I also like the mix of colors, predominantly cool colors with that yellow ring on the outside. I like this, Emmeline, with the one little leaf breaking up the verticality of the stem. (So there's a little vocabulary lesson in this note. Did you learn any new words? :-)

A sweet butterly for Valentine's day with lavendar wings on a purple background. I love the scored red hearts on the lower wings surrounding the segmented red body. It's cool how you have tipped the top wings turquoise (please note my alliteration? SMILE!). I also like the yellow tips on the lower wings. Isn't it interesting how just a teeny touch of color adds emphasis--on this piece, the yellow, the turquoise, the white circles? I also like the butterfly's smiling face. Nice!

A rhymed poem for Emmeline's patterned monster! from Grandma Raylene In front of a purple cloud over an orange sun This patterned monster would scare no one! Cauliflower arms, pink feet, a flower in its ear-- Even that creepy mouth and big eyes bring me no fear! LOVE IT, Artist Emmeline! Good work!

Is this fun penguin sitting on an ice block? This is cute and funny. I especially love the penguin's orange feet and striped stocking hat. DEEEE LIGHT FUL! And just right for the season. Go, Artist Emmeline! Forgot to mention the great background fading from blue and green into sunset colors. Nice!

You know I love this winter scene which I used on Christmas cards. I love the impressionistic shapes (I think conical Christmas trees). I like the mottled effect of the sun in pinks/oranges like a sunset. I like the deep purple sky on which the beautifully placed snowflakes stand out. I love the shades of evergreen blue in the smaller closer trees in the middle. Wonderful! Good work, Emmeline!

My favorite part of this collage picture are the black silhouettes--the birds which are great flying shapes and the boat. I also love the yellow and orange on pink (sunrise or sunset colors) but unexpected when we think of sky blue. In your case, of course, the water is blue/green/purple, which feels deep and cool. LOVELY color contrasts and lovely effect of the spattered color blocks. Good work, Emmeline!

Wonderful sun and moon contrasts in this art piece. That orange sun really pops! I am glad the sleepy moon keeps the smile going. Wonderful details, especially on the sun's rays. This made me happy this morning even if it is still dark! Good work!

I love the KC Royals too but they have hit a hard time as they lose games. However, I think they would like your baseball picture. I like the blue stripes in the background. I am puzzled by the badminton looking white object behind the ball. Wish you were here to help me with an explanation.

This is DRAMATIC in the black stems and lines against the deep red of the leaf. I like the skeletal lines and the bold outline! It makes me think of fall.

Your turtle makes me feel very cool on this hot September day, all those shades of blue and green make me think I am surely underwater with the turtle. I like the intricacy of the shell and the hint of a smile on the turtle. Is there a girl's arm underwater on the left side? Is she plucking an underwater plant? Lovely!

GLORY be to God for dappled things— For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow; . . . Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?) Emmeline, your piece reminds me of this poem--lovely!

Sunset over waves? Great blend of pinks, yellows, oranges over the waters, waves. I like the purple blending light above it and deeper into azure blue down low. Fun to have a reversal on the usual "blue sky above" which here is "blue waves below" and yellow-brown earth tones below now turned into sunset colors above. I like this very creative and interesting mix of colors. Good work, Emmeline! Grandma Raylene

When did I miss seeing this still life fruit picture? You know I love the orange base and the way you have arranged the fruit in the bowl. I love the predominant orange and yellow. Even though I am not a big fan of purple, I really like the way this purple background sets off the fruit and the yellow bowl. Good work, Emmeline!

I love your bridge, Emmeline, but at first when I glanced at it, it looked like the edge of our little bird bath in front of our house where you float coins and flowers and place favorite rocks! Of course, your picture is much more colorful. This is beautifully done. I would like to have this hanging on my wall. This may be the one this year! Good work, Emmeline! Grandma Raylene

Did you want this to look like a GIANT cupcake? I think it does! Almost as big as a trash can! :-) It has a dramatic zig zag pattern on the cupcake wrapper and I like the white on the cherry top, as if the light catches it where it sets OR IS THAT WHIPPED CREAM? Again, the icing shows nice patience as you placed the little candy pieces randomly around in the icing. Good work, Emmeline. Grandma Raylene

One cool owl peering down on the left at someone who is definitely misbehaving! This is no ordinary owl, but a sassy, spiffy, well-dressed, rigged-out jaunty owl in her high heels???? Cool art, Emmeline. Amazing colors and good detail on the front. I love this owl! Grandma Raylene

I love your Christmas reindeer! It feels right since we had some snow! The trees and sky are great greens and blues. Doesn't the reindeer look like she is glancing back as she runs, like maybe saying, "Did I hear footsteps in the snow?" Maybe she is a very young reindeer. Her little mouth looks puzzled. Good work, Emmeline! Grandma Raylene

Emmeline, I loved your snowy happy town! In fact, I made a Christmas ornament because it seemed so perfect with the snowy sky. And the trees remind me of Christmas trees. The pink house in the foreground is great. And the sky almost looks wintry; it is smoky, hazy, and also deep blue. Or is that round dot near the deep blue horizon a moon? Grandma Raylene

Hi, Emmeline. I was certain I had commented on your cat, but maybe I just enjoyed looking at it while I was in Santa Fe!! There are some things I really loved this morning about your cat: its BIG green eyes and the tiny bird nestled so cute between the green eyes in a safe little niche on top of the kitty's head. Something is so cute about that! AND the cat is smiling! Yes! Do you know the saying, "Smiling like a Cheshire cat?" That is what I thought of. Cats are not my favorite animals, but I love this kitty which seems to be looking right at me saying, "Surely, Grandma Raylene, you don't DISLIKE a kitty like me!" Right you are, Yellow Tabby!

WHAT? Did I forget to comment on your Holstein cow???? I love Holstein cows because this one looks like the ones we milked when we had a dairy when I was a little girl. Luscious blue sky! This cow's face looks a bit like she needs to be milked! Remember when we did the pretend milking at the little farm we went to see together in KC? Good use of the squares! Grandma Raylene

It's Fall apple time in first grade art! I remember when Esther did this assignment last year. Your orange apple is an especially beautiful color of coral! Good work. OK, are these my favorite kind of apple called "Pink Lady" like Aunt Vicki likes or are they Fujis or Galas? Anyway, I want a bite. They look good enough to eat! Grandma Raylene

Six mice in a row, the orange one (my favorite) a bit higher. Are they lined up to take off on a race? In my mind, they are all headed north, according to map directions. Maybe north for the winter? A little poem? Six little mice went out of the house A red, orange, yellow, green blue and gray, People were shocked at the colorful display, Only the last one the color of mouse! Good work, Emmeline!

Dear Emmeline, IT LOOKS LIKE THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING! I love it! I especially like the kite-shaped clouds in the lustrous blue sky. Good self-portrait, Emmeline, the blue eyes, the hair cut, the design of the dress or shirt. BUT DO YOU NOW WEAR EARRINGS? I think it is fun to see what earrings you would wear IF you wore earrings. It looks like they dangle. Maybe like those we play with at Grandma's house. How fun that you did a kindergarten self-portrait. Grandma Raylene.

Emmeline, I LOVE your K-Shape monster! A K-shape makes great long legs and I love the way the monster's eyes are rolling and its teeth resemble a piano. Miss Emmeline, I love your birds made of different shapes! You know what it looks like to me? Like the silliest bird, Mr. Bluebird on the end of the branch jumped and bounced her friend the Redbird up into the air! And Yellowbird is a square and is holding Bluebird and Redbird by the wings. So, my favorite blue bird is the indigo bunting. And my favorite yellow bird is the yellow finch. And of course, my favorite redbird is the cardinal. What a fun trio! Grandma Raylene
