Hey, Ben, You were talking about this piece of art at dinner tonight. There’s a lot going on in your creation. Your mind had to picture what to draw to represent both basketball and your name. The net, the lines, the ball and the drink tell a story. Love it!

Ben, That was a very creative way to spell your name. You are becoming a very good artist!

Wow Ben! I’d not heard of Keith Haring! There’s a good documentary about his art and his life that I found. The colors are brilliant and the characters surreal. This is an artwork that inspires me to look closely and to find meaning for my life as evidenced by your work. Love, Mimi

So clever, Ben. It took me awhile to see the pattern you made with the colors. At first I looked at the individual letters to see the shading and pencil strokes. Then I noticed that the green letters marched down the page, then the orange, yellow, blue and red. Now I'm trying to see if you made a particular pattern with the shading...A is darker on the left side, B is darker on the bottom, C on the top, D on the bottom, E on the left side...beautifully artistic and mathematical.

Dear Ben, Once again you have created a masterpiece! I'm curious about how you show distance/depth? The blue water appears to be moving. The black clouds behind the mountain are ominous. The white clouds in the sky balance the landscape by pulling my focus from the sky to the white on the water. So much to see in your painting. Bravo, artist Ben! Love, Mimi

Ben, This is incredible! Many children draw heads with arms and legs coming out of them. They're just learning how to draw. I see many details in this portrait. I see hair growing on the scalp. It's a short haircut. The eyes are toward the middle of the face where they belong. Many people draw the eyes higher up. The eyebrows seem to show that the person might be scared, worried, or thinking hard. Maybe the person just heard an unbelievably funny joke and they're about to burst out laughing. I see nostrils, a mouth, and ears. You are an artist!!

Hi Ben, I see the 3 primary colors that you colored on the wheel: red, blue and yellow. I also see 3 secondary colors that come from mixing the primary colors: purple, green and orange. You made varying shades of the colors, too. It looks to me that you worked hard on this artwork. I smile when I look at it because I think of working on this and see your personality shine through. Grandpa and I are proud of you. Cyrus misses you. Love, Mimi

Hi Ben, Cyrus is learning about shapes in school. Did you know that all the shapes that you colored are called two dimensional shapes? Some have corners and straight lines and some have curved lines. You chose many colors. We see that you mixed primary colors to make secondary colors. Your picture is beautiful!! Love, Mimi and Grandpa

Hi Ben, that's a pretty cool piece of art work. Do you have a name for it? If so what is it?
-- Grandpa

Cyrus said he saw red, blue and yellow cars and trucks in the work of art I think of as "Traffic". It looks like you did a lot of cutting and gluing for this piece of art. The colored strips show dark shades and lighter shades of the same color. The monster face has some red in it's mouth and very long eyelashes. It's face looks furry from the way you made marks with the crayon, or is it colored pencil? This could be an illustration for a story. "Once upon a time, there was a creature who lived in a dark cave...All he wanted was to have one friend, but people were afraid of him. One day a little chipmunk saw the creature and didn't run away....
