Michael, also known as MAD 6, You continue to amaze Pops with your creativity. You must have watched a caterpillar or "dozer" at a work site to think about a many doing this difficult but invaluable work in the night. Digging is the start of most construction projects and you have to lay out the cutout just right to put the building over the hole. Love the colors and the imagination you put into this. Michael, another fine spring picture! Can you guess the two parts I like the best on this one? It's the bugs! The bee flying in to do his thing with the nectar and the green bug (a grass hopper, maybe?) with his proboscis at the ready! The flower is so lovely - with the petals that curls and wave - were those petals hard to make? Really nice work, Michael - as usual! Love, Nana -- Betsy

Posted 10 years ago

BIRDS! Michael! Your picture is fantastic! I spend a lot of time here at the kitchen table watching the birds outside in the tree so I love your newest picture! All of them look so happy. Is that because it is spring-time and the cold weather is leaving? I think the only thing that would make your picture better would be a sound-machine to go with it so we could hear those happy bird songs. My favorite birds are the two smallest yellow ones (yellow finches?) , or maybe the redbird (Cardinal). Which bird do you like best? Thanks again for sharing your beautiful artwork with me! Love to you, Nana -- Betsy

Michael - I just found Buster the Bunny on my iPad screen here! Neat-looking rabbit! Really interesting to see the front teeth on that carrot - was that hard to do? Do you suppose Buster helped the Easter Bunny with the deliveries on Easter Sunday morning? You did a really nice painting job along with the drawing of Buster - keep up the good work! Love to you, Nana -- Betsy

Michael, Rosie looks like she has been busy keeping a very neat nest in her coop and she has laid two eggs so far...busy hen is she! Is there a story that goes with Rosie? Hope you will share it with me when next we see one another. Your latest picture is very good - lots of details in the feathers, beak, and comb - and again, I love the colors you have used. You have become a really good artist - I'm so proud to know you! :-). Love, Nana -- Betsy

Michael, Pops just wants you to know that I am happy with your ever increasing advancement in level of difficulty in the things you are drawing and putting together. At the end you have a great house or a cabin and nice green trees and bushes to be proud of. And it is a tall place with a smokestack. I wonder where Michael's room would be--up or downstairs. Love, Pops -- JOHN
Posted 10 years ago

Michael, your log cabin looks like it would be very cozy and warm in the winter snow you have placed around it - nice puffs of smoke coming from the chimney! I like the bushes and fir tree with the birds sitting in the tree and on the ground. The pink and blue colors in the sky remind me of the sunrise outside here at my house this morning. Good art-work, Michael...thanks for sharing it with me...love from Nana -- Betsy

Dear Michael, Your Lincoln's Log Cabin turned out great! Using triangles to make the tree and bushes is such a great idea. And how did you make those cabin rectangles look so much like logs? Well, Michael, you made another great artwork! Love, -- Hamma & Papa

Michael, Fantastic winter picture! I get chilly just looking at it! :-). You have so many details in your picture. The snowman with his scarf and hat with red band of trim really make him look fancy. And the busy birds in the tree and on the ground are such lucky birds - lots to eat with the feeder and the seed scattered on the ground. I especially like the way you have added the snow on the tree branches and twigs. As I said, I get chilly just looking at your beautiful picture! Good work, Michael - did it take you a long time to finish this work of art? Much love to you, Nana -- Betsy

Wow! You are creating such interesting and amazing things in art class, Michael. We would love to hear all about the process in making this fossil and also what you learned about fossils. Can any living thing become a fossil? We can't wait for you to tell us! Love, -- Hamma & Papa
Posted 10 years ago

OK, Michael! We need to talk about this dinosaur fossil. I need details...what kind of dinosaur, boy or girl, or can you tell from the fossil? Can you tell what this one ate? Meat...plants? Carnivore or herbivore is the question there, I guess. Large or small - sooo many questions! What did you use to make the fossil? Was it messy to work with? Maybe we can chat when Pops and I see you next when we celebrate Lolo's birthday. Thanks for sharing your fossil with us...Love, Nana. PS have fun in the snow this weekend! :-) -- Betsy

Hi, Grandson. I'm looking at your works of art, "Line Trees" and "Penguins", and enjoying them very much. You are really making cool projects in art class and using different materials. What material did you use for the black parts of the penguin? And did you use water colors for the tree project? I noticed there were snowflakes in the penguin picture...maybe we will see some snowflakes soon! Love, -- Hamma and Papa

Michael, Pops likes your nice forest picture. I am betting it is the Catoctin mountains as you drive north on Highway 15 to Thurmont and Mount St Mary college. But I could be wrong, and it is a great forest picture for any forest. Keep up the good works and keep on learning. -- john
Posted 10 years ago

Michael, your evergreen trees are beautiful! I especially like the way you have spaced them as they would be in a real forest. They are not all lined up in a straight line, but some are in front and others are behind the ones in front. Good three dimensional perspective. Really interesting picture you painted...thanks for sharing with us. Love from Nana -- Betsy

Michael! You have been a very busy artist! I can see you riding along your curvy country road singing John Denver songs as your dad and mom drive you and Lolo home. Did you take ideas from the farms near you home? When we see you on Saturday I want to talk with you about your country road picture. Did you use watercolor paints? I really like your art work. Hi, Michael. I'm loving this Indian corn mosaic that you created! Did you cut and glue every single one of those pieces of colored-paper corn? A lot of work, for sure, and the effect is so great. Love, Hamma -- Cindy
Posted 11 years ago

Michael, the Indian corn looks so much like real Indian corn! The mosaic pattern you used is colorful and bright. Do you know if people can eat Indian corn? Could we cook it before it dries out and then eat it? Or pop it like popcorn? Or should we use it to feed animals like cows and pigs? Or maybe we should just use it for decorations? Let me know what you think. Thanks for sharing your artwork with us. Pops and I love to see each project you make. Love, Nana -- Betsy

Dear Michael, I really enjoyed meeting Earl last Friday after school! He seems to be an interesting character whom I would like to get to know better. Maybe you can read his book to me sometime. I would like that. How did you make his tail look like fluffy fur? The way you placed the acorn in his hands looks very realistic. Great work! Love, Hamma & Papa -- Cindy
Posted 11 years ago

Earl the Squirrel must be really happy these days with all the acorns he can find in the woods! Your Earl looks really happy...I particularly like the bushy tail...makes me want to sing the Gray Squirrel song! Does your teacher know that song, I wonder? Again, Michael, you have designed your squirrel perfectly! Great ideas there! Live, Nana -- Betsy
Posted 11 years ago

Michael, Pops likes your Earl the squirrel. He looks very happy and has a bushy tail which you made. He also has a nice acorn nut to eat and get fat for living through a cold winter. Pops -- John

Hi, Michael. I love all the details you included in making this great owl: the dash-lines around each eye, zig-zag lines on the wings and tummy (those really give me the idea of feathers!), and the orange triangles for the beak and feet. Really nice! Love, Hamma & Papa -- Cindy

Michael, This is just the cutest owl I have ever seen. And yes, I give a HOOT!! -- Pops
Posted 11 years ago

Michael, cool owl!! I noticed that you did some very good scissor-work the some of those shapes. Did you use white crayon or white chalk for the feathers around the owl's eyes? Or maybe those are eyelashes?! Thanks much for sharing your owl with me. Can we give him a name? How about Hootie Owl? Love, Nana -- Betsy
