Abbie, this piece has a lot to say about the everyday life and challenges of a teen girl -- and I'm probably missing some of what you're saying! In addition to skillful drawing, I also see a lot of interesting use of pattern and repetition. Great job!

Abbie, I like this portrait a lot. It's very hard to draw people, I think. Did you work from a photograph? The Impressionistic technique (Van Gogh or Seurat?) makes it very interesting, and the eyes are looking right at the viewer! I also really like the way the hair reflects the light. Very cool! Love, Grandma G

Beautiful painting and concept! You must have worked very hard to draw those cupped hands just right, which would be difficult! I also love the soft cool colors in the background.

Abbie, I love this whole creature, especially her face. You did a great job on the crocodile jawline and teeth. But as a viewer, I'm most drawn to the eyes, which have an expression that looks DANGEROUS!

Your picture definitely tells a story, or at least part of one. This reminds me of funny old cartoons (like the Road Runner ones we showed you). What happened to the poor mouse? Love, Grandma G

Abby this is an outstanding drawing of someone who looks very familiar to me....my oldest granddaughter. I really like what you did and it's a great likeness of you.

Abbie, at first I thought all the pink faces or purplish blue faces were the same. But the closer I looked, the more I saw small, interesting differences in the expressions and emotions. Very cool! Love, Grandma G

Abby -- Nice drawing of hands! You also put a lot of work into writing all the famous quotes, math equations, Latin, and more in the background, which looks very interesting. You also have different shades of black and gray, including things that were erased on purpose! Sometime you can tell me what this means to you! Love, Grandma

Very nice picture with lots of interesting details. It seems you are starting to tell a story. I will be excited to see this when it's done! Love, Grandma G

Was it fun to turn your drawing into animation? I like the alien's moving arms and blinking eyes! -- Grandma

I really like this alien. Your drawing is very clean, with some details but not too many. I think it could be a nice illustration for a story! Love, Grandma

Abby -- It's cool the way you made the wings flutter. Some time you'll have to tell me just HOW you made them move like butterfly wings! Love, Grandma

I like your pose and the expression on your face. You are suggesting a restriction -- but doing it in a friendly, even mischievous way! -- Grandma G

Was it fun to mix the paints? The colors are cool. When I was in 5th grade I had a skirt that color of purple, and it was called "grape." Nice distance perspective, too! Love, Grandma G

Very good, Activist Abby. Maybe you could be a political cartoonist! That is a form of political/cultural commentary that has a long history in our country and still continues today, because a picture can be worth a thousand words.... Love, Grandma G

Abby, It looks like you are flying on your magic carpet through the sky. Really nice work and I love your references to Jesus. Keep up the great work and messaging.

That looks like a beautiful carpet, Abby. I like all the deep blues and greens showing God's beautiful creation, and the golden brown border (like a gold crown?). Love, Grandma G

Abby, I liked talking with you about this artwork on Skype last week, and liked your online comment too. I can see that you and the angel Gabriel are on a mission together to send out God's message! I like that the drawing shows this loving partnership. The skin colors show that God loves people of all races and nations. Good work! Love, Grandma G

Abby, I think this is a great work of art. I like that you have shown the diversity of our society in your art and the message that it's you and Gabriel is fantastic. Geepaw

Abby, this is very cool! Was it hard to make your design be symmetrical in all 4 directions? Tell me how you did it! Did you start at the center and work outwards? Love, Grandma G

Abby, what did the Pigeon do? Did Pigeon do something funny to the picture of Mrs. Fuglestad? It looks mostly like a nice picture, but it's a little bit hard for me to see, plus I don't know what Mrs. Fuglestad looks like! Maybe you can tell me Pigeon's prank when we visit you next week. Love, Grandma G

I agree with Susan! Abby, this is a wonderful composition with the apple that tippied over and the addition of the blue in the the background patterns. I love it!

Abby, I love your Pigeon! He looks so much like the one from the books! He also looks very happy. Does that mean that he just got to eat a hot dog or drive a bus? Love, Grandma G

Abby, that is quite a monster! Definitely fierce-looking. Because of its shape, I wonder if it just ate a computer or a toaster.... Love, Grandma G

Abby, I like all the different patterns in the background of your painting. I like the way the stripes go different directions on the floor of the painting. I like that one apple is tipped over! Did you know that I ordered this picture made into some greeting cards? I will show them to you when we visit in December.
