This piece really grabbed my attention with its delicate and contrasting textures. I'd love to know your technique for painting the bark. The pencil shadows are lovely against the white of the snow and birch trunks, and the presence of these shadows beautifully emphasizes the sense of sunshine. The sky looks dynamic against the solid stillness of the trees, and the bird perched on the branch gives us someone to identify with, to help us imagine what it is like in this scene. The bird's posture of an upturned beak gives me the impression that it is peaceful day with lots to be curious about.

The more I look at this one, the more layers of meaning I find (the green island in a sea of blackness, the streaks of yellow signaling the coming change of the seasons, the pink squiggle,...).

The decision to make the vase pink really gives it interest of its own and helps make it more than just something to hold the flowers. I also like how the flower on the lower left almost seems to be reaching out of the painting towards the viewer.
