Lily, What I love about African masks are the rich colors that are often used and I see from your art piece that you have captured that in your choice of colors. I love the red background that you chose which really makes the actual drawing pop out at you when you look at it. Love, Nana

Lily, This picture looks exactly like where I would want to be and what I would like to be doing right now....sitting outside on a beautiful day reading a great book. You captured that feeling perfectly! Love, Nana

Lily, This selection of art looks as though it would go perfectly in your room because of the color scheme. Pink is such a soothing color and I love how it appears that your name is floating along on a purple sea. I must be hungry as I look at this because I see red licorice, a doughnut, a gumball, and a green gummy worm....Oops! Time to go and get a snack! Love, Nana

Lily, I would love to be on a boat witnessing this beautiful scene one day. When you and all of the rest of us were in Hawaii for Thanksgiving, we would see this sort of scene right out the door of the house we were renting on the ocean. It was a spectacular site. Until I can go back there one day, I will cherish looking at your picture as a remembrance of that beautiful memory. Love, Nana

Lily, I was so excited to open my email and see that you had started posting artwork on Artsonia for our new art season! This recent picture demonstrates such an interesting contrast between dark and light and reminds me of evening...where shadows start to creep into our day but the light still remains...one of my favorite times of day. You captured the contrast beautifully. Welcome back to the 2014-2015 art season! We love you! Nana

Lily, I see that you are learning some new ways to create art. Isn't it fun that you can combine things from your environment, put them together...and you end up with a beautiful piece of art? You did a beautiful job of giving this baby a welcoming peaceful nursery. We love you! Nana

Lily, I had to actually look up the definition of Kente cloth as I was not familar with the term. When I looked it up I was able to see many examples of it, and this made me appreciate and enjoy your interpretation even more. When we get together next time I would like to try doing some drawings of it with you. Love you! Nana

Lily, This picture is such a perfect capture of a winter cardinal. Grandpa said that you could sell this picture right this minute because it is so well done. I always like how the red coloring of the male cardinal stands out so vibrantly against the white winter landscape. It struck me in this picture that you had managed to capture that contrast perfectly. Love, Nana

Lily, Even though I was able to see this beautiful piece of art when I was at your house, it was still a lovely treat to have it come to my email and brighten my day. When we were in China to bring you home I noticed that there were many statues of colorful cats in the stores. So, when I saw this artwork that you did, it reminded me of one of the best days of my life...the day you became my granddaughter. That will always be a very special memory to me and I love how this artwork reminded me of that important day in my life. You are a very special granddaughter to us. We love you! Nana

Wow Lily! The art work showing your home as part of the "kentucky landscape" is beautiful. I would like to walk into that picture and settle in for the day. The first thing I would do is try out that slide that you drew. It looks pretty challenging with that circular loop, but I think I would be up for it! Our homes are the most cherished part of our personal landscapes, so what a nice choice you made to draw this. We love you!

Lily, that looks yummy! Remember the day we spent drawing decorated cakes and cupcakes? I have such nice memories of that time. So, this artwork is perfect because it reminds me of that time we spent together. If only we could eat this drawing now!

Lily, It's great to open my email and see that the new school art season has begun and that I can look forward to seeing more of your work again. Your Summer Self Portrait is a perfect start. I was really drawn to how well you captured your smile and the kindness in your eyes. This is how I think of you whenever we are apart. We love you. Nana

Lily, These look like they are dancing across the hilltop! This was a beautiful way to make a landscape seem to come to life with movement. Love, Nana

Lily, This beautiful butterfly brings back great memories of when you, Mommy, and William and I went to the Butterfly Show. Do you remember that butterfly that sat on your hand the whole time we walked around the show that day? Love, Nana

Lily, These are beautiful spring colors that you have used to design your mask. Right now Grandpa and I are visiting an island called "Bermuda" and they have many bright colors in their culture such as what you have used in this artwork. There are bright orange and pink houses everywhere on this island. And the green in your picture is what the trees, grass and many, many plants look like. So, tomorrow when I am outside walking to the beach and seeing all of these colors, I will think of your painting! We love you! Nana

Hi Lily, What a great moment I had this morning to open up my email and see this snowman picture waiting for me. That is one happy snowman that you drew! I love his smile. He reminds me of the snowman from the song "Frosty the Snowman". Last weekend we were in Boston for your cousin, Nora's, first birthday and, while we were there, we had a huge blizzard so we saw plenty of snowmen in yards when we finished that storm! We love you! Lily, This is a really great picture. I wish I were seeing more of these snowflakes here in New York because we have hardly had any snow so we can't ski or sled much. Thank goodness you made this beautiful picture of snowflakes so that I can at least look at these. We love you. Nana

Lily, I see that you did this painting as part of a project on the word "Patriotic". I think our American flag inspires people to feel patriotic when they see it in parades or face it as they sing the "Star Spangled Banner" at sports games. So, now when I look at your interpretation of the word "patriotic", I love that you chose to represent our flag also. We love you! Nana

Lily, This is a very interesting piece of art! I find it unique in that the girl is placed over all of the blocks of color. It makes for a very interesting contrast in color and design. Is that girl that you drew a picture of you? Either way, I love her bright and cheerful eyes...it reminds me of you. Love, Nana

Lily, This is a beautiful use of color. It reminds me of two things. One is, of course, a rainbow, but the other is that it reminds me of some of the mountains we see here in the Northeast that are covered in the colors of fall leaves right now. We love you! Nana
