Claire, I love your Finster self-portrait. It looks like a grown-up version of you. And that's my kind of therapy. :)

This fine design reminds me of the Islamic art we saw together at the Aga Khan Museum, carved on doors, painted in manuscripts, worked into building details. The brown triangles along the edge of your rosette disappear into the background. In fact the whole design seems three dimensional. Well done! Grandma Lynn

What a wonderful design you have created for the letters in your name! Somehow it leaves me with a very happy feeling... Maybe it's that e at the end that looks to me like someone with a giant smile on their face. :-)

I recognize you ready for camp in the red hat, green shorts and happy smile. Maybe this is a picture of you returning from camp because your legs are tanned.

The assighnment was to create a women's suffrage poster and make it a big stamp which is what the artwork is. The stamp is so you can make posters easily!

Art and social comment go well together. I wonder what the assignment was and whether you had a choice of what issue to illustrate. This is a worthy one. Grandma Lynn

Hi Claire, There's a word you might not know "tactile", which has to do with touch. When I saw your netsuke that word popped into my mind. Strange that just looking made me want to feel your perky little chap. love Grandma Lynn

If I ever get a kimono, might I borrow this from you? Just looking at it makes me smile. I'm sure it would bring good luck. Love, Nana

Hi Claire, There's a very good book about Netsuke called " The Hare with Amber Eyes". This pretty bag looks ideal for a Netsuke. I especially like the scalloped opening. love Grandma Lynn

Hello Claire, Your Merry-go-round creation makes me smile, almost laugh. He's adorable. I love the shoes, complete with laces. That looks like a comfortable seat which even has a back. love Grandma Lynn

I absolutely LOVE the sneakers! They should definitely help this fellow jump higher and run faster than anyone else on the carousel... Love, Nana

What an absolutely wonderful set of drawings! I liked seeing the progression from top to bottom. I'm pretty sure I would never have come up with such a great idea. On a side note, I'm delighted to be able to see some of your artwork again, and I had a great time looking through the ones from a couple of years ago. Love, Nana

Now that you are back in North America we can enjoy your school art work on Artsonia again. It's interesting to see how your painting developed into a snail, finished with an added eye. Grandma Lynn

Hi, Claire, What an absolutely marvelous car! It looks like it's big enough for a few friends to come along and has plenty of windows so that everyone will be able to see where they are going. The working door seems especially amazing to me. I hope that the next time we see each other you can tell me what you needed to do to make that. It seems like it might have been a little difficult, but it looks like you did an excellent job. Love, Nana

Dear Claire, Grandpa and I loved seeing your self portrait on Artsonia. Your pony tail is swinging as it does in the Irish Step Dance. You've drawn a fashionable dress with interesting lines and buttons. Grandma Lynn

Hi Claire, Artists say painting with watercolour is difficult. Your painting of the candy shop looks as if you already know how to get good colours and keep them separate. Grandpa and I enjoy seeing your painting. love Grandma Lynn

Claire, Grandpa and I loved finding the picture of your hand puppet in our e-mail this morning. It seems to have a sweet and lively personality which made us smile. Have you given it a name? love Grandma Lynn

Dear Claire, Grandpa and I love a story. The story you wrote about this collage really caught our imagination. It includes both scary and happy events, brave people, and a lovely setting of mountain, river and wild berries. You finished the story with a happy ending. I've printed it so we can read it again. love, Grandma Lynn p.s. the illustration is wonderful too.

Dear Claire, I can't decide whether I like your picture or your story better! They are both wonderful. What an exciting day all the people in your picture had! Love, Nana

Dear Claire, I just love both of the new artworks! I have always enjoyed Mondrian's work, although I don't quite know why. Your work using the different shapes and colors is also delightful. I like the symmetry, and the way you have used the yellow shapes gives motion. I also really like your dots picture. The colors you chose are excellent, with the bright pink on the left and the orange on the right. And I think the whoosh that goes from the pink dots to the orange dots is wonderful! It makes me think of things (flowers? snowflakes?) dancing in the wind. Or maybe fireworks spreading across the sky? Or? Would love to know what it makes you think of. Mostly, it just somehow makes me feel happy, which is a very good thing. Love, Nana

Claire, I was delighted to see your new art additions. The dot painting and the lines composition are both great. I especially like the color combinations. Love, Grandma Carol

Dear Claire, It must have been hard to make the lines so straight. You chose some of my favorite colors. Having the black in the center seems to make the picture seem stable. Well done! love from Grandma Lynn

Claire, Grandpa and I are delighted to see your school artwork on Artsonia. Since Grandpa loves birds he was especially interested in your drawing of birds over the beach. He remembered when you called the birds with your violin at the cottage. Your treasure box looks like something from fairyland. love Grandma Lynn

Your Charm Box is lovely - very sparkly and full of treasures - but I particularly like your drawing of the beach in South Carolina. It reminds me of the wonderful time we had there. And that makes me think of lots of other fun times!

Claire, I can see why you call this magical. It looks like a treasure, with its sparkling jewels and colorful clay base. Your picture of the beach is also lovely. They both make me feel happy when I see them - one of the great things about being an artist is the chance to make people feel things when they see your art. Love, Grandma Carol
