I really like the dimension and shading you added to this pumpkin, Toby. I can see the ridges and bumps quite clearly. It almost looks like a pumpkin that wants to be just like his friend the acorn squash. Love, Mom

It's funny but, you make that same face sometimes Toby; usually when you're trying really hard not to laugh. I wonder if you knew that when you painted it. Love, Mom
Posted 12 years ago
The shading and highlighting give this pumpkin so much dimension - wouldn't it make a great pumpkin pillow if we made one with fabric?
-- Love, Grandma
Posted 12 years ago
I love the expression on this piece. Shy, afraid or curious? It has so much personality - just like you!

Toby, this is wonderful. I love how you shaded the fruit. Were you inspired by the Matisse exhibit? You are so lucky you got to see it.

Every piece of art work you make is such a delight to see! You captured the essence of the birch trees so well that it feels like I am in the forest and able to reach out and touch them. I love the detail from the knots to the 'wrinkles" in the bark. Well done! -- Grandma

Love the blue eyes - they just make this owl come to life! I really like how you captured movement with the feet and wings - it looks like the owl is coming in for a landing. Great job! Love, Grandma

Toby, this is very nice. Your use of different triangles, circles, a cabbage and an oblong box makes it almost mathematical. Love, GrandPops

Toby, I LOVE this piece. Geometric designs are my favorite. So much can be done with simple shapes and lines. I will talk to you for permission to use your idea in my fiber work.
-- Cheryl
Note from Toby to Cheryl: That sounds like a lot of fun. I'm excited to make art with you!

Toby - Wonderful use of lines to make the eye move through the artwork, plus the layering of the pieces makes it so dimensional. Love your work!
-- Grandma

Toby, I like your "owl". You can almost hear him hooting. Did I tell you the one about the owl who went into a bar, perched up on a stool and said, "Hoo, Hoo" and the bartender said back, "Who, Who?"
-- Love, Grand Pops

Toby, wonderful colors. The picture looks as if you had fun doing it.

Toby - your use of color just brings the butterfly to life. I notice that most of your art pieces have a smiling face - just like you!

Toby, I love the butterfly. The aboriginals in Australia also do dot painting but they don't use the pretty colors as you do.
