Hi Madison - I like the way you organized the pieces your collage. The colours all bounce and balance together. That makes it a real fun and cheerful piece. Looking at the all the bright colours and thinking of hamburgers at the same time makes me sort of hungry! -- Floyd

Madison, I used to love making squiggle lines all over a page and then drawing different things within each section when I was little. I still have one or two of my drawings. Love that you have fun with your art! Love mommy & daddy -- Marny

Hi Madison The roses you made look very nice. I haven't done any sculpting before so I'm really impressed by anyone who can do it. Looking at the picture I can see you took your time and paid attention to size and scale and how the flower is constructed. I've been told that making a sculpture of an object really makes you pay attention to how nature makes that object, so that when you are done, you thoroughly understand your subject. Did you know sculpting and painting used to be considered to be parts of the same skill set and many of the world's famous painters down through the centuries were also excellent sculptors? -- Floyd

Hi Madison Like your painting. I see it was inspired by Kandinsky. Did your teacher mention he painted the first modern abstract painting? After a lot of years painting and thinking about art and looking at what other artists were doing, his work developed to the point where he made a break from representational painting. The point being that he worked and learned and progressed and his efforts took him to new places. As it happened, he progressed into brand new territory. Your career can lead you to new and exciting places too if you follow the same pattern of working hard, thinking about how your work is developing and learning from what others are doing. Wow you are really good. We both love fish and the ocean, this looks just like that. We could float right in there. That would be a funny picture. We love looking at your art work. we think you could be a professional artist like Uncle Floyd someday. Welove the magnet you gave us for Christmas. We have both your's and Sean's on our refrigerator. Uncle john likes to look at them everytime he opens the refrigerator door and you know how often that is. We love you. Hi Madison, I am always amazed by two things; the way you fill the page and your attention to fine details. Today I love the cherry on top. Grandma -- Judy

Hi Madison Mosaics now! Boy you guys really explore a lot of neat things! I like what you created while you explored this really old and beautiful way of making a floor. What you made has a wonderful lively effect in the way you used the colour chips. Making a mosaic, as you have discovered, is like painting a picture, only you use coloured bits. A thousand years ago (even two thousand years ago, imagine that!), craftsmen used little pieces of coloured tiles. I'm going to send you a picture of a really old mosaic for you to look at. So keep having fun with your art! Uncle Floyd -- Uncle Floyd

Hi Madison! Neat snowflake! You used geometric shapes very effectively to make your art. I like your choice of shapes and the way you arranged them to make a pattern that says 'icy cold snow flake' to me. But here's a tough question for you: Can you figure out why these shapes and this arrangement says that? Uncle Floyd -- Uncle Floyd

Hi Madison This is a lovely little pot you created. Did you have fun making it? I see you used the coil method of construction. Thousands of years ago people would make pots this way only they would smooth the inside instead of the outside so it worked better for holding food or water. Coil pottery is very strong and even today people can find pieces, and even whole pots, that are thousands of years old. You've glazed the outside in a nice watery green that allows the colour of the clay to come through. I like that. Did you know glazes first were used to seal pottery and make it easier to hold liquids? Even after firing, an unglazed piece is porous and the liquid inside will evaporate. Isn't it neat how something as pretty as you pot can also have an everyday household use? Uncle Floyd -- Uncle Floyd

Hi Madison I like what you've done here - it shows a lot of creativity and care in cutting out and assembling. The red and green complimentary colours are really fun. They make a lively combination and have a lot of 'activity'. Have you noticed that the red shapes on the green squares seem a little larger than the green shapes on the red squares? But we know they both are exactly the same size, right? This happens because warm colours like red seem to come forward, or be closer to you, and cool colours like green seem to want to go away from you. It's part of a colour theory called 'perceptual colour' which you'll learn more about later if you keep doing art. But you can see this happening around you in every day life if you choose to look for it. Keep up the great work! Uncle Floyd

Hi Madison! I like your weaving... did you learn a lot creating it? Weaving is a hard thing to do. I tried it once and found out it's really hard to keep all the threads the same tightness. Did you find that as well? My favourite part of your weaving art is the colours you used and the alternating bands - the way way you arranged them. I particularly liked the little bit of red you wove into it. It makes a really neat eye-catching contrast. If you made the art longer, you could make a nice belt, or a wrist band, or maybe a really fun carry strap for your computer bag. Uncle Floyd -- Uncle Floyd

Hi Madison - Another good effort. You know, I think you have a good eye for composition (how things are arranged on the page). And I like the choice of colours and textures that you put together. You made a collage using cool colours, but did you know that some of the cool colours that you chose are 'warm' cool colours? They can be that because they have a little warm colour mixed in. So some of your greens are leaning toward yellow and some of your blues are leann toward red, both of which are warm. This is a good thing and makes your composition more interesting. Did you know you were doing something so complicated? Uncle Floyd -- Floyd

I think your art is good stuff! I really like the palette you chose. You chose analogous colours in both warm and cool colours and complimentary colours in the alternating panels! I really like the shapes you drew for each type of colour because I think the shapes match with the colours. And the decorative bit, the dots and hearts, really finish the piece off nicely! You really scored a winner! -- Uncle Floyd
