Ashley!!! Wow! What a festive Christmas tree! The buttons make it old-fashioned looking. I like the strokes of glitter that you added to make it sparkle. Ashley, Your first work of the new school year! Bubble Letters, huh? I like the colors that you chose. As I get older, my printing is better than my cursive. Do they still teach cursive at your school? I don't think they do at St. Patrick in Bryan, but they DO at Holy Cross in Defiance. I know this because Paola attended both schools last year. Ashley, I love your self portrait quilt. I especially like the colorful, cat material that you chose. Of course all the things you picked to use, add texture and vibrancy to your work. I looked up Aminah Robinson and read about her & her career. It would be interesting to visit the Columbus Art Museum and see her creations in person. Art is expressing what is inside you. Ashley, I love your color selection for this beautiful design. Blue and green are 2 of my favorite colors. The rainbow effect in the center is cool. Ashley, I like your Nutcracker watercolor. He looks like a brave soldier. If you ever get the chance to attend the Nutcracker Ballet, you should. It is magical. I've seen it in Ft. Wayne and Columbus. The theater in Columbus is worth the journey. The architecture in it is amazing. It is truly art, too. I know that they do the Nutcracker in Toledo also. Maybe you could go next year at holiday time. I know you would really enjoy it. Keep at your art. It is a God given gift--a blessing. Love, Aunt Pearl

Ashley, I had never heard of a Quetzal bird before seeing your latest artwork. Being curious, I looked it up and found that it lives from southern Mexico to Panama, through out Central America. Although I have visited El Salvador 13 times, I never saw one of these flying around. I suppose it is because they prefer higher altitudes. It certainly would be a gift to be able to see one in person. As usual, your painting is wonderful. You truly have a talent. Enjoy your time off for the summer. Love, Aunt Pearl :-)

Ashley, I like your house, especially the aqua color that you chose. I wish that I were brave enough to paint my front door orange. I think that it's a bit too bold for me. I don't understand the cubism of Klee, but I guess it is sort of like pixels that make up digital photos. Keep excelling in your art creations. They bring beauty and joy into the world. Ashley, Your skeleton is spooky. In Mexico they celebrate differently than we do here. We have Halloween, All Saints Day and All Souls Day. They have the same 3 days, but all are called The Days of the Dead. I think that I like our customs better than. Either way, in each country, we remember those who came before us and died. Dear Ashley, What a precious little bird! The colors make me think of Easter. I like the flowers and butterflies that you added on the border. It is amazing that you used scraps to fashion her. I have always liked birds, since I studied them in 5th grade in Mrs. Strong's class. Our birdfeeders are usually full, and now we have 2 chickens that Sofia's class hatched last May in her 3rd grade class. They are getting big. The rooster crows and struts around. Ashley, As usual, I learned something from your art work. Paul Klee was an artist who died in 1940. He was of German and Swiss descent, his mother being Swiss. Your Great-Great-Great Grandpa Andres came to the United States from Switzerland when he was a boy. He fought for the North in the American Civil War. One of his 9 living children was my Grandma Phebe Ann (Andres) Rath. She lived into her 90's dying in 1969. Ask your Grandpa what he remembers about her. Now to your colorful painting: WOW! It looks like it was fun to design the letter layout, to choose the colors, and place them all---just so! You certainly do "love to draw"! What games do you like to play? Sofia loves to play UNO. Ashley, I love the fabric leaves clinging to the branches. They look like they are blowing in a cold autumn wind. The little owls are huddled together trying to keep warm. Ashley, 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-Blast Off! I can almost hear the roar of the engines. We have visited Cape Canaveral, however have never seen a launch in person. Your picture conveys the power and the heat of the engines, as they begin to lift the space craft into the air. Beautiful work! Love, Aunt Pearl :-)

Ashley, Wow!! You have been busy in Art class this year! I love this little bird. I bet if she were real, that she would be singing a beautiful song. Ashley, I love your bakery heart. The colors are bright and beautiful. The purple glitter makes it sparkle! Did you bake it in an oven or a kiln?? Your great grandma used to do ceramics. Ashley, I love your egg. I went on-line to find out that "pysanky" is a Ukrainian way of decorating Easter eggs. The examples there were amazingly detailed. There are so many different colors, details and designs. Did you know that a translation of the word means "to write"? Look at all the different things you learn from art class! That will make you a well rounded person. Keep having fun with art and keep creating beautiful things to share with the world. Aunt Pearl :-)

What a cute little owl! He looks funny, but wise. The stars add a nice touch. Sometimes, late in the summer, I can hear owls calling to each other in the night when our bedroom window is open. Ashley, I really like your "pop art" heart. I looked up Jim Dine on the internet. He was born and educated in Ohio, but I did not know of him. Commenting on your art is always a learning experiance. It looks like part of your heart is fabric. The colors and patterns that you chose make your creation "pop", like popular art should! Keep doing art over the summer, when you can. Ashley, WOW! That is the prettiest and most colorful polar bear that I have ever seen! I really like the eyes that you used. The snowflakes look cool, too. Have you ever seen the polar bear exhibit at the Toledo Zoo? There are windows under the water level so you can see them swim. The cubs are growing up fast. There is also a real polar bear that is stuffed. You can stand next to it and take your picture. It is huge and very, very tall. Love, Aunt Pearl :-)

Ashley, What a beautiful watercolor of the desert! Your painting looks like a real sun rise, or sun set. You made the lighting and colors, just right. At Christmas in Phoenix, AZ, people wrap lights around the cactus plants for decoration. Ashley, I like your star. Was it messy to make? Paper mache is great for creating. That's how Pinatas are made. My grand daughters in El Salvador always have one for their birthday celebrations. They are filled with candy and then broken open with the "wack" of a stick. A star is an important part in the Christmas story that we remember this time of year.
