This slab vessel has a tall, tapered form that creates a stronger sense of height and stability. The wavy, uneven rims adds movement and makes the piece feel more organic compared to the straight sides. The surface texture is subtle but gives it depth, keeping the design simple while still visually interesting.

The use of curved walls for the side slabs of the vessel, along with the irregularly, wavy rim introduces organic movement into the piece and draws the eye towards the top of the pot. The proportions of the pot, a slightly more narrow base and mouth compared to the shoulders, also help to establish balance and emphasize the mouth. The surface texture of vertical lines also creates repetition and a pattern that creates rhythm that would be complimented by the glazing process.

The sculpture creates visual interest and depth not only through its three-dimensional nature, but also the added effect of the differences in value within the blues, yellows, and greens in this piece. The sculpture places more visual weight on the outer edges with more projecting forms and interlocking pieces, both creating outward movement while simultaneously creating complexity with the negative space.

The glaze application follows the contours of the asymmetrical dish, creating cohesion and emphasis on the raised edges and surface variations. The commingling of the darker and lighter glazes by the walls of the dish create a fluid transition between shades of green, the speckled glaze also settles nicely.

The colors of the rim and the body commingle together in a remarkably pleasant way, complimenting each other’s shades. The colors you chose to include in this piece are also reminiscent of nature, which directly relates to the leaf structure of the dish.
