Hi Arya, What neat piece! I love your placement of the colors and textures of the objects in relationship to one another. I believe we would consider this sculpture though this style is better classified as assemblage art (a three-dimensional form that involves arranging found or everyday objects (often scavenged or repurposed) into a composed whole). You probably learned that assemblage emerged in the early 20th century with artists like Pablo Picasso and Marcel Duchamp, and became prominent through figures like Joseph Cornell, who created poetic "shadow boxes" or compartmentalized dioramas filled with eclectic objects (e.g., toys, trinkets, pipes, and natural items) to evoke nostalgia, surrealism, or dream-like narratives. The orderly yet whimsical arrangement of mundane items in compartments creates a curated, miniature world which transforms ordinary materials into something evocative and unified. Other artists with simmer work include Louise Nevelson and Robert Rauschenber. It reminds me of this a piece our grandmother’s entryway which had carefully arranged dried beans, pasta, rice, etc- in little compartments/boxes- again, ordinary items arranged in a certain way as to create patterns and a cohesive artistic statement. Nice work Area and nice to see you for the holiday. Love, Mimi

Hi Arya, I really like the sort of handmade crafty, feel to this piece from the texture and shape to the color. Some of the details like the sort smaller spiraled edge in between two much larger ones give the piece this a feeling of movement and a sort of pressure visually, that asks the viewer to contemplate not only the process you went through with the physical materials to work out this piece but also mentally and creatively. Making non-uniform spirals seems a slightly riskier move and yet it has paid off creatively as it seems to perhaps bring some beautiful humanity to the piece. Thanks for putting up with my comments. :-) Very proud of you. Love, Mimi

Arya, This piece is just absolutely incredible. When I first saw it, I was so stunned by the colors, intricate detail and design. I sense your care for your beloved former pet when I look at this. I also sense a real respect for the bird as a fierce creature. I am wondering if any of your falconing activities have also informed this piece? You might consider framing this one and perhaps holding an art show or entering this one in to some contests. Love, Mimi

Wow Arya, what a unique looking piece and fantastic painting of the animals. I love the title! I agree that the animals being so different from one another makes it much more interesting. This makes me think of the importance of celebrating differences in our world and amongst people. Awesome job on this and what beautiful painting. I’m so proud of you. Much Love, Mimi

Hi Arya, What an incredibly painted rainbow sunset! It’s stunningly beautiful. The two bird silhouettes draw the viewer’s interest, especially the one whose beak appears more turned toward the other. I wonder what the birds might be thinking, feeling or saying to one another? It would seem they might be in awe of the beautiful sunset. Beautiful job on this Arya and thank you for adding me to your art fan club. I hope you continue to make art when ever you feel the calling. Love, Auntie Mimi (P.S. Uncle Milty also said “Wow!” when he saw it).
