You know yourself well! And captured your face so well! I love the Salvador Dali'ish perspectives. Grandpa loves it!

Reminds me of those stop action 80’s cartoons. It’s a really cool and distinct style. Symmetry is fun!

It’s fun and whimsical while highlighting your technical eye for symmetrical design. LOVE it!

As grandpa just said, "More reason to paint more clouds!" Look at Maxfield Parrish work for some really cool clouds!

Oh Sam that’s wonderful. I’m immediately drawn to the colors and the way you’ve used them in all aspects - young lady, the water and the sky. Well done!!!

Sam, your building looks similar to ones we saw in Spain. Love the arches and windows. They are well done. Your art has grown through this year.

I love this image and I love cross hatching. When I was in Art class, I chose my grandmothers old hickory egg basket as the subject for cross hatching in pen and ink. One of my favorite mediums. Your perspective, shadowing, even the reflection of the palm tree!!!

You captured the centuries old architecture so well with your pen and ink technique. Definitely a great choice for your art show entry!

Montages are so cool. The museums in DC were full of them. Cool way to create a story full of pieces of memory from a place.

Hey! Nice perspective set up. It was always fun to set these up with your vanishing points, horizon lines, etc. once that foundation is established, then you can have fun designing and making the image unique to its place. Well done.

Patience….. is the word that comes to mind when I see the look on your face and the thousand patterned words meticulously written. Difficult to draw oneself and I think you captured an emotion you were feeling at the time of its construction. Very well done dear. Like mom said, this will evoke a memory for you for a very long time.

I love it! Knowing you as well as I do, and knowing how much you dislike self-portraits, you did an amazing job! This one took you several days but is worth all the effort as you will look back on this in years to come and appreciate reading about all the things that make you "you" in this moment. Also, some of the words that stand out (words, Nola, Truman Show) make me smile.

Sam, this takes real talent and an amazing artistic eye.

It’s glass!!! Wow Sam. You are really getting the details now. I was so proud of my bubbles. Hahahahha! You have surpassed your father. BTW, the white on black background captures the feeling of glass much better than on a white background. Glass is full of light, not dark pencil. A+ dear.

Sam, I can’t image how to can create crystal glass wear, especially with the dark background. Well done!

You have masterfully encapsulated the essence of light in the contours of the glass, rendering it breathtakingly lifelike. Great job, kiddo!

Do you see your mom in you??

I am always amazed with what your "eye" sees Sam. And I love the different mediums your class is experimenting with! This way, you can discover what medium you prefer and what "speaks" for you. Keep going!

I see you! Absolutely. What growth you have made in a few short months.

As I have mentioned, it astonishes me that you could simply sit down and create such an emotional drawing. It evokes the feeling of an old-world Christmas with candlelight, ice skating on ponds, small groups of friends caroling to bring cheer to the townspeople, and an unbearable chill in the air that leads families to build roaring fires so they can enjoy hot cider and one another's company. Beautiful!

You've really captured Pai in this rendition. She is playful and fun, but the hair draped over her face lends to her shyness and yearn to escape from focus. I love this!

Love it Samantha! Merry Christmas sweetie!

I thought, because there is a star on the tree, that I was looking at a recently abandoned happy home that still had the lights on but no heat. The tree seems inside the house and icicles on the window sill. Interesting how a picture can invoke a story from the observers perspective based on their life experiences and/or moods. I was trying to imagine a happy Christmas home that a family left to go visit other family and there is this tree that is a little sad but still shining brite for everyone. I can think of a couple more stories. Good work dear.

Amazing! The use of medium to interject the light and dark for shadowing is intriguing to me. Your color choices bring this winter wonderland to life!

Just in time for Christmas! This was very well done dear. Watercolor can be forgiving and agitating at the same time. But I think you did an amazing job capturing cold and northern light colors. Feels like the North Pole .

Love, love the finished work. It's been fun to hear about this still life as you've worked on its creation. I can really feel the depth and richness with the shading and detail. The perspective in the small bottle definitely draws me in! Excellent work sweet girl!

I also like how you were able to capture the reflections on the glass bottle to reveal the shape. Very preceptive and attention to detail. The other thing I like is contained in the way you filled the spaces between the objects which are normally overlooked, but you created a texture and pattern which actually brought together everything in a subtle way to make it a total image of interest. Well done dear. Progressing very quickly.

Wow Sam, that boot now tells a story. This person follows the rules, Hense the shoes nicely laced all the way up. This person is not afraid to dive in and help. The thick soles tell us he’s ready anytime. Lastly, this person is a hard worker and proud of his work. Even though the boots show wear with their folds, they are neat and clean.

Doing well on getting gravities effect on flexible items. It’s a nice drawing as it is in a semi-abstract form. It will be a fun and complex exercise to add the shadowing to reveal its soft form. Looking good dear!

Love the boot Sam!

Well Sam, that’s perfect for you! The drum with edges formed by the absence of your black picture. Your drum jumps out from the black space. Well done!

You never cease to amaze me young lady! Such a deep thinker for a 13 year old! Calligraphy is fun, challenging, demands patience and perfection. Your analogy to mathematics is intuitive and bright! Keep up the good work and it makes me so happy that you have art in your life! ??

I love the quote Sam and the variety of lines you used to write it. Your expression of the quote is nice, especially the letters you chose to capitalize. Grandma Barb
