Evelyn's demonstrates her duality. On the one hand, restraint - she keeps her color between the precisely defined borders of her political cartographic mapscape. On the other hand within each region of her map she lets her pen work wander across the imagined geography. Do they suggest vibrant landscape of mountain, rivers, lakes, and roads? Or are they instead a metaphor for the tumultuous process of statecraft itself - within each boundary a winding narrative of social class, national identity, and the nature of authority? Evelyn's ability to grasp all of the possibilities, but never too tightly to crush any one of them is her great gift.

I just returned from an exhibition on the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and cannot help but see in your work in that context. The gentle spiraling curves, the dotted textured field. The only thing those limestone Assyrian reliefs cannot match is your excellent sense of color. I will contact the Iraqi embassy regarding the possible acquisition of your work for their collection. With Love, Graham
