Hey - how come the monster is smiling and you are not? I think I would rather talk to you than your monster. However, both of you are bald!!!! Have a lovely sumer.

Maxwell, another interesting piece. What is the size? It looks quite large in the picture. Did you use regular paint to accent the details? Will you be keeping up with your creative articles this summer? I hope so!

That is very interesting. Is it representing something I would know? You have used some unusual items. Perhaps it is like when I make dollhouses, I see things and adapt them to create my impression. Keep up the interesting work.

Hey, this is neat. I wish I could see it in real life rather than a picture. What did you use to make the paper? Also, the frame? Good work. I also like the blue article in the center. Will you be in middle school next year? I bet your Mom is very proud of you!

Dear Maxwell, Did you weave all the fabric? If so, what did you use to weave it? I just returned from a cruise and visited a shop that did hand weaving. The fabric looks similar to yours. How did you get the colored threads into the fabric? Did you add them while weaving or put them in with a needle and thread? When I was teaching we made a loom out of popsicle sticks and wove fabric but it was kind of hard to make the threads tight. Keep up the great work and I will be looking for more!

Hi Maxwell, It's great to see that you're learning about Claude Monet and his work; he is one of my favorite artists. I like the contrast of the geometric and clumped forms of the haystacks with what I know to be the feeling and nature of outdoor grasses; your shading and color choices are very nice, too. Love, Aunt Lucy

I must confess that I am not familiar with Monet's picture. However, I do have some pictures of haystacks that my grandfather made Many years ago. I think your haystacks resemble those! I always enjoy your choice of colors. Keep up the good work.

Dear Maxwell: Wow, this is a wicked looking cat. What did you create it on? It kind of looks like clay or some kind of metal. Am I right? Or, looking at it you could use it for a Christmas tree ornament! Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to seeing more of your creations.

Hi Maxwell, Your spaceship looks like an alligator/snake hybrid vehicle! It sure is flying way up high amongst some nearby stars! It would probably hold a lot of cargo and people on their exploration voyages. Love, Aunt Lucy

This is an interesting project. The can looks so tall! How did you make the comments stick to the can? Also, the can looks like it is tipping over the way you put on the comments. Very cool.

Hey Maxwell, I was just thinking that I had not seen your art work for awhile. So glad to see you are back on line. Wow, this is a great picture. As you know, I like the bold colors you use. Are the hands signaling a word too? Keep up the great work.

This drawing looks like a cross between a dolphin and an airplane...unusual and imaginative! I like the other sketchbook drawings, too...the self-portrait and what looks like an anthropomorphic ice cream cone! Max, I hope you'll keep sketching some every day if you can make the time for it! Love, Aunt Lucy

Max, what an interesting tree frog. It looks ready to climb up some more! Also, it looks like the skeleton is depicted here, too. The bright red feet against the predominantly green body really stand out, too. I hope that these frogs in the wild will continue to persevere if they're endangered. Love, Aunt Lucy

Hi Maxwell, I'm getting an opportunity to look at some of your artwork online, today. You've made such a beautiful little turtle! What lovely, glowing colors the glazes have! The shape of it looks like a sea turtle to me. Very nice work. Love, Aunt Lucy
-- Lucy
- on May 9, 2013
Dear Maxwell: A great turtle. I assume this is out of clay, or maybe Fimo. If so, how did you put the lovely glaze on? How big is it? The colors you used are realistic. Good job.

Dear Maxwell: Wow! This is neat. I like the depth of the drawing and how it looks like many things. I first saw a hot air balloon, then a flower, then a stained glass window. What did you think about when you were making it? Keep the wonderful drawings coming!

Dear Maxwell: I am so glad to see your art work back on the internet. As you know, I love to see your pictures and the colors you use. Who do you think lives in this castle? We stayed in a real castle in Scotland and they had a huge wolfhound dog guarding it. However, there are many stairs to climb inside a castle. I am glad I did not live there. Perhaps your castle contains an elevator!!!

Hey Maxwell, Just viewed some of your latest pieces of art on the artsonia webpage. What a good drawing of a jug this is! I like your choice of colors, too. It looks like you've been learning so many interesting things in class this Spring ...some appreciation of history and also studying scientific understanding while doing art. See you soon, hopefully! Hugs!

Dear Maxwell: This picture really catches the eye when you look at it. I really like your choice of colors and how you added the smaller different colors together at the middle area. Of course I don't know what you were trying to make, but to me it looks like a really comfortable chair with wheels. I can imagine reading a book in it or watching a movie on TV.

Dear Maxwell: When I look at this picture I think of material! I would like a shirt with this print on it. Don't you think that would be pretty? You like the colors I like and that makes it fun!

Hi, Maxwell. You've made one of my favorite types of art, a mobile! I like your choice of shapes. Isn't it satisfying to get the mobile balanced and able to move in a breeze? I see in your gallery that you have also worked on several other projects this Fall. I've been unable to view all your work until now, due to family concerns that maybe your mom told you about. Anyway, it's nice to see what you've been up to in art class this year so far. See you soon, hopefully! Love, Aunt Lucy.

Dear Maxwell: I like the way you shaded the colors as they went to the outside. The red is so important and it is the biggest and last color you used. Way to go! I have one of these "eyes" on my bulletin board that my granddaughter made me when she was in school and I really like it. I always enjoy your art work as you use the colors I also like.

Hi Maxwell, Someday maybe you can tell me more of what this particular picture represents; I like the organic shapes and soft colors you've used. I'm not too familiar with Arshile Gorky, although I have heard of him. That's nice that you are learning about so many historical people as well as the art movements of different time periods.

I just love this gigantic black-eyed susan flower against that brilliant blue background! You probably learned that Georgia O'Keefe is well-known for painting gigantic flowers. Hey, recently, I saw the "Bee Movie"...I couldn't stop laughing at parts of it! Those bees learned a valuable lesson about how they are big helpers in keeping the flowers blooming and in preserving the whole food chain for everybody here on our wonderful planet. God sure knew what He was doing by balancing so many things in our ecosystem. And now we can enjoy this creation, too, if we can manage to care for things the way we should. Love, Aunt Lucy

Have you had a lot of snow where you are, Maxwell? I like this huge snowflake towards the center of your drawing. And you look like someone is having fun catching another one. But wait a minute...that looks like a watermelon slice and a zucchini there outside!! What?! You're funny :) Hope to see you later this month! Love, Aunt Lucy

Hi Maxwell, You've made this picture with some depth by using the principles and techniques of placing objects in the foreground, middle ground, and background...good job! I apologize that it has taken a while for me to respond about your artwork, but I'm finally catching up, now. Love, Aunt Lucy

Maxwell, As usual, I enjoyed your new art. I think I enjoy looking at it as much as you enjoy doing it. I am using the Christmas cards you had your Mom send and have already written all of one box and mailed half of them. I need the second box too as I have more friends to send them to. Keep up the good work. Love, Grandma

Dear Maxwell: You have used my favorite color again in your work. It is so bright and cheerful. I can tell the foreground from the background and it has great dimension. I always enjoy looking at your pictures. From Kay

Dear Maxwell, Wow, these are some blazing colors all right! Oil pastels can yield some really vibrant effects, more so than wax crayons, don't you think? What an interesting subject matter, too. Have you heard of Robinson Crusoe? He made his home in a banyan tree. Wouldn't that be fun to live in such an enormous tree? Keep up the good work! Love, Aunt Lucy

Hi Maxwell! Is this picture from your first art lesson this year? Cool...BATMAN in a hot air balloon! That's what I see here, or am I off the mark? Nice poufy clouds all around, too. Love, Aunt Lucy
-- Lucy
- on September 25, 2010

Dear Maxwell: The soft colors of your picture are really lovely. It makes me think of a high mountain with green grass below. I can even see the clouds peeking out from behind the hill. Of course, that is just what I think I see. Am looking forward to more paintings as you do such a good job.

Wow, Maxwell, the upper righthand drawing looks like wings to me...is it one side of an airplane? It really does look 3-dimensional and like it is flying. The other one I recognize is a train locomotive, I believe. And the largest image looks like gears. Nice work! Love, Aunt Lucy

Maxwell, what a nice, classic vase and pretty wildflowers you drew here -- did you use crayons or oil pastels or some other kind of medium? Love you! Aunt Lucy

Hi Maxwell! I'm finally catching up on all your artwork that I haven't seen, yet...you've been busy (so have I and that's why it has taken me so long to view your work)! These two self=portraits are very different. The one on the left is hard for me to see on the computer monitor, but it looks like you are surrounded by things that you like or are useful to you. The one on the left is kind of scary-looking...you're green with a pointy head! And you have blue arms!! It also looks like there is a kite in the background? Love, Aunt Lucy

Dear Maxwell, The comment I am making is about your vase. It is beautiful, such clean lines. I like the color ,too. At first it looked like it was all yellow. When I looked more closely, I saw that there was purple in it. too. That made it more dramatic. Congratulations on the Award. Love, S. Martine

Hi Maxwell! I just saw this new artwork on the web. You used a lot of different materials to make these structures. I'd love to hear from you what exactly you had in mind in constructing these; I see you recycled a compact disc amongst some other things...my imagination is telling me that these are vehicles/objects in outer space? Hope you're having a good week! Love, Aunt Lucy

I liked all your pictures of items to recycle and I enjoyed seeing your class writing about ways to recycle. I also enjoy all the shirts which your Mom has sent me that have your artwork on it. I just wore one to my Bible Study class yesterday.

Dear Maxwell: I really enjoyed viewing your artwork. I especially liked the colors you used in the papier mache vessel. Blue is one of my very favorite colors. I see your use that color quite often. Have a wonderful summer.

Hi Maxwell, Did you make these objects out of clay? The colors sure turned out nice and bright. I recognize that the bottom one looks like the ankh symbol, but I'm not familiar with the others. Happy Springtime, Maxwell! I'm looking forward to celebrating Jesus' resurrection with you, and also having a fun Easter egg hunt when you're out here next month! Love you lots, Aunt Lucy.

Hey Maxwell! I like this picture of the vase of flowers...are they tulips? It looks like you built up several thick layers of paint to make it. The color combination reminds me of Spring...I'm looking forward to springtime when the tulips will pop up out of the ground! Love, Aunt Lucy

Hi Maxwell, It was so good to see you a couple of days ago! What a lovely papier-mache bowl you made...it has a nice base to it, and the blue shades remind me of the ocean! Love, Aunt Lucy

Maxwell: Nice work drawing all these hands! The middle set looks like they are clapping. This reminds me of someone's hands while he is performing a mime routine -- someone who is completely silent while moving around and who describes things with his hands and experssions of his face and body. Anyway, I like your different colors here, too! Love, Aunt Lucy

Dear Maxwell, Here's another one of your art works that I think I missed the other day. Did you enjoy seeing the dancers perform -- did some of them dance on their toes?! You are learning a lot of things in your art class! Love, Aunt Lucy
- on January 12, 2010

Hi Maxwell! When did you make this artwork -- was it recently? It is very nice; I like the fall hues and the still life arrangement. Pastels are so vividly colorful! Love, Aunt Lucy

I enjoyed this picture so much that I used it for a number of my Christmas cards and I was pleased when your Mom gave me some to use as post cards. Keep up the good work. All of your art gives me a great deal of pleasure.

Hey Maxwell, You did some nice work painting these birds; I especially think the bottom one in the picture really captures the look of a cardinal. I saw one in our holly tree the other day -- he was fluffy and looked like he was trying to stay warm. The daddy cardinals really do look spectacular with their bright red feathers! See you, soon! Love, Aunt Lucy

Dear Maxwell, Your impressionistic painting is beautiful. I love the movement in it. Love, Sister Martine

Hi Maxwell, It looks like you put a lot of thought into this artwork. It looks to me like a rocket sitting on a planet. Is the planet earth, or are the astronauts leaving another planet they visited? I can see an astronaut on the stairway getting into the rocket. It looks like a comet to the left, and maybe a meteor (shooting star) above. I have seen comets drawn like the object above (as well as like the one on the left), so maybe it's a second comet? I'll bet the sun is to the lower right, because the tails are pointing away from it. It looks like the rocket has grabber arms. Maybe this is advanced technology they use to load the luggage. You've put so many things in this drawing! Love, Uncle Winston
- on November 20, 2009
Dear Maxwell, This drawing is so detailed and interesting. Who is the astronaut entering the rocket? I like the comets flying in outer space. Uncle Winston is an astronomy buff so he very much enjoyed this artwork, also. Have you seen any meteors in the night sky around your house? Every once in a while, I'll see one, but it is a rare occurence. Love, Aunt Lucy

Maxwell, you did a great job drawing and coloring all the leaves. And there is such a variety of shape and color! I can see that you like art class. With love, Grandma

Dear Maxwell, Wow, this work is really cool and intriguing! I like how you've drawn all those lines -- that was probably somewhat difficult to do to get them arranged just so. The colored swirly part in the middle reminds me of one of those crazy straws used to sip drinks with... or maybe it's an exciting roller coaster! Love, Aunt Lucy
- on October 4, 2009

Hi Maxwell! You've been drawing a lot -- I like how you've filled up your paper with these activities you do. Your mom told us that you have learned to ride your new bike -- I bet you're enjoying that! Are you also flying in an airplane in this picture? I'm really looking forward to seeing you in October and hearing all your latest news! Love, Aunt Lucy
- on September 25, 2009

Dear Maxwell, I like your Matisse-inspired art work! Did you have fun arranging the cut-outs in your work? I can see a lot of interaction in this picture! Love always, Aunt Lucy
- on June 13, 2009

Maxwell, I can see a cube, cylinder, and it looks like a prism in the middle? I like the effect of the black and white checkerboard in the background. You are learning so much, and I'm really enjoying looking at your artwork and how you've been progressing! Love, Aunt Lucy
- on June 13, 2009

Hey Maxwell! You've drawn quite an array of creepy-crawlies -- very nice work!! Did you have some photos for reference, or did you draw them from your memory of what they look like? Love, Aunt Lucy
- on June 13, 2009

What a beautiful, colorful job on this and the other three pieces that are your latest. I think of you every time I put on all the t shirts I've received with your artwork and also when I run into other items around the house. I am giving Grandpa one of the t shirts for Father's Day. Thanks for all the nice gifts you've made possible. Love, Grandma

Dear Maxwell, This is quite a striking painting! I thought I recognized Mona Lisa! You've made her very, very blue -- she reminds me of an article I read about some people with bluish skin living in a certain part of Kentucky (it's true -- they have a rare genetic condition causing the blue skin; this can now be remedied with medicine). Mona Lisa looks like she is near a large mountain and some water -- a lake, perhaps? Love, Aunt Lucy
- on May 24, 2009

Maxwell, you've been busy learning a lot at school...are you finding out about some animals that are native to Africa? This picture has a lot going on with the striped zebras in the foreground and the house further back with the airplane flying overhead! I can tell you put a lot of thought into making it. I wonder if zebras grazing on grasses in the savannas often bolt and run if they notice the sounds of aircraft that fly over them in the sky. Love, Aunt Lucy
- on April 5, 2009

Hey Maxwell! I like all these bright circles which form a ring representing a beaded masai necklace! See you, soon, I hope! Love, Aunt Lucy
- on April 5, 2009

Hi Maxwell! You've made such a colorful woven basket/cup...these colors together remind me of walking beside a riverbank and seeing lots of bright wildflowers in bloom. Are you glad it's Spring, now? Or do you miss Wintertime and all that snow you had where you live? Love, Aunt Lucy
- on March 26, 2009
I love your "zulu" artwork. It looks like it took an awful lot of time to finish it. Where did you get the idea? I'm sure you get a lot of pleasure out of doing all these art projects. Love Grandma
- on March 24, 2009

Hi again, Maxwell, You've been doing a lot of artwork, lately. Did you make this picture using chalky pastel sticks on dark paper? I like these colors next to each other! It looks like there are a couple of letters inside your design as well. Keep having fun expressing your ideas with all those different artistic materials during your art time! Love, Aunt Lucy
- on January 13, 2009

Hi Maxwell ! This is a very dynamic art mask that you made -- it reminds me of some kind of bird. Did you have fun wearing it the other day during the special dance you learned about? See you soon, hopefully! Love, Aunt Lucy

Sandy, I think I forgot to sign my name on the last comment for Maxwell -- did it go through? Anyhow, I like the organic shapes, ghost, and autumn/Haloween colors in this one! Love, Aunt Lucy
- on January 13, 2009
Hey Maxwell, That looks like a ghost or a monster up there in the right-hand corner of your art work? I like your organic shapes, and the orange, black and purple colors you put next to each other remind me of Halloween!

You look very happy in your self-portrait amidst all the different vehicles that are transporting other people and things across your path...it is lots of fun to be outside and experience all the sounds and sights of transportation, isn't it? Hope to see you in a couple of months! Love, Aunt Lucy
