Very cool! I'm not sure if it's what you were going for or not, but it looks like a bunch of colored pencils with their tips together. The shading and highlighting is also done really well and I think is what contributes to making them look like colored pencils the most. The way they are highlighted gives each one a 'rounded' look. Excellent job! (:

The background is structured ans organized, then the paint brush comes in and kind of reminds me of chaos coming through and writing over the organized background. But the chaos is rainbow and the background is black and white. No one wants a black and white world, even if it's perfectly in order and there are no problems. The colors come in and fix that black and white space. It may be chaotic but chaos is good sometimes, and maybe even wanted or required.

I love these colors! This would make an awesome design for a blanket!
