Birch trees at sunset. Or sunrise! I like how you created depth by showing a leaning tree in the foreground, and another in the background. We don't see many varieties of birch in southern California. Maybe because it's too dry here. I love to see what you're working on. Ask Grammy to send me photos of work you bring home from school. Love U

Springtime!!! It's a breezy day down in the valley, isn't it? This looks like a happy place. Grasses are swaying in the wind and even the houses look like they're smiling. Is the large purple mountain covered with lilac, pink, and magenta flowers? The hills behind it might be in the shade of big, dark clouds. Maybe it's going to rain! Elena, I have certainly enjoyed seeing your artwork this year. You can continue to create over the summer if you want to. Maybe your nanny does something artsy! I love you and miss you. Sending hugs, Barb

Hi Elena, I'd love to hear from you, so I wrote some questions about this art project. Tell Grammy the answers so she can send them to me. 1) What is it made of? 2) How did you make the indentations around the edge? 3) Are the pink roses thicker than the base? 4) How tall and wide is it? You seem to like making art, and all the projects I've seen look wonderful. You put happiness in my heart! Love, Barb

Hi E, If I was this penguin I'd be wondering how long it would continue to snow. Is that why your penguin is looking up to the sky? Barb

You've done it again! I love the thought and detail you put into this. Is that Freckles out in the cold with you? I bet he was glad to have a warm coat and hat. And you look all toasty in the big hat and pink gloves! Ice skates and a frozen pond were a very creative detail. Love, Barb

Elena, these critters look like something you may have seen looking through a microscope. The way I'm imagining them, the black lines around the edges are fins or legs. All the colors and shapes in the middle are their guts. And of course they have googly eyes! I'm naming them Moe, Curly, and Larry. Sending love and hugs to you and your whole family, Barb

Kite flying is fun on a breezy day. Don't get tangled with another person's string or you both may crash to the ground! A huge green lawn and a sunny blue sky is perfect for launching a kite, isn't it? Sending you love and hugs on the tail of a kite. XOXOXOXOXOXO Barb

Whatzat? It's small, round, red - (I'm sayin' BRIGHT red!), with two little googly eyes, wearing a white beret. And he's (hope it's okay that I just made it a boy...) getting ready to sneeze so he covered his nose and mouth. But I must still inquire "Whatzat?"?? ?? Barb

Hi "E", It's so cool that some of your birds are hanging by their toes. They're like stalactites in that regard. (That's a new word for you to Google!) I love their bright colors. It makes them look happy. Knowing you makes me happy!

Elena, this one has me stumped. How did you create all the different patterns? Barb

Good morning Elena, You sure get to do lots of different things in art class! Did this sculpture air dry? Some sculptures have to bake in a very hot oven, called a kiln. The little reindeer you made for me with Grace baked in a kiln before you painted it. I have a picture of you and Paige on my computer screen so I can see you everyday. Sending love and hugs ?? Barb

You must have been feeling happy and energetic when you created this, Elena! I saw it when I got up this morning, and my eyes popped open and a smile spread across my face. ?? Love, Barb

Hi Elena, How was this artwork made? with stamps that you dipped in paint? with pens or markers? with both? I adore the pinks and reds and whites that are mixed together on some of them. Every time I get a piece of artwork from you, my day becomes happier. Sending love and hugs, Barb
