I'm so happy to see this piece of artwork from you Avery and apologize for not having commented on your earlier masterpieces. I love this work and did not know slaves used quilt patterns to escape their terrible situations. I too, love your lantern and how you positioned your quilt near the North Star. It's no surprise your "road" was frustrating to paint - we can only imagine how difficult it was for black Americans to escape slavery via the underground railroad. I hope you read more about it.
