Dear Caleb, We see that you learned how to "zentangle". I (Grandma) do this all the time when I'm doodling, but until now I didn't know there was a name for it. What a great pumpkin you created! If I go out into our pumpkin patch at night do you think I would find magical pumpkins like this one? Or - maybe the colors and patterns of your artwork show up in our patch during the day when we aren't looking! Either way, I believe it is a wonderful possibility!!! Happy Pumpkin Time, Grm. and Grp. W.

Our dear Caleb, We think your artwork is imaginative, funny, colorful, birdy, interesting, animated, and just hunky dory! We know you drew it because you added personal details and we know you! It is always fun to be around you and your creative mind. Love, Grm. I and Grp. J

Dear Caleb, This is a nice piece of art! You did a nice job of choosing interesting patterns, lines, and colors. They all work nicely together. We can tell you spent a lot of time thinking about and creating this nicely positive drawing. It encourages us to be nicer to each other! Hmmm: is there a past tense of nice (I niced the cake)? I think not. Anyway, this is one of the nicest pieces of art you have ever made! Love, Grm. I and Grp. J

This creation of yours is so cool it could be in an art gallery! I would buy it if it was. You seem to have a talent for drawing flowers and other parts of nature. Happy Spring from Grandma I. and Grandpa J. !!!

Caleb, I love this purple, blue and turquoise butterfly sitting on the flowers. It's a great piece of Springtime art! Love, Gramma Bev

I see your artwork "A Thingy" was inspired by your study of culture and traditions around the world. I notice what I think are African and Japanese influences but I can't quite figure out the rest. You can tell us about it the next time you talk to us! The colors all work well together. Love, Grandma I. and Grandpa J.

Why did you name this "The Big Mess"? I would call it "Gorgeous"! You did a great job weaving and choosing the colors. I hope you make one like it for us someday. Our 42nd wedding anniversary is coming up soon: hint, hint! Love, Grandma I. and Grandpa J.

Dear Caleb, Did you know that Duo is the mascot of Duolingo and he symbolizes knowledge, wisdom, and learning? Yep - and si senor! (How do you make the marks for Spanish above the "i" and the "n" in the previous sentence?) There are many words for "owl" in Spanish. Can you find some of them? We love owls - and you! Grandma I. and Grandpa J.

Caleb, I love your drawing of the TACO. It looks good enough to eat. Yum !

Hi Caleb, I see that this is egg carton art. Grandpa says it looks like a dog. I think so too. Is it Frodo? He was such a sweet, wonderful little dog, just like Buttons (who was black when she was younger.) I miss them both! Love, Grm. I. and Grp. J.

Hi Caleb, That is one big taco! We like how you drew the person behind the taco with his mouth open, showing all of those teeth - and eyes closed - trying to take a bite out of it. It is a simple drawing that says a lot. Now we are off to eat our tacos. My favorite ones are at a Mexican restaurant called Maria's! Love, Grandma I. and Grandpa John

Ole!!! What a goal you made (and a great drawing too.) Your dad played soccer and so did your uncle. David played until his senior year in high school and then later just for fun as an adult. It was always his favorite sport and he was very good at it. You are good at sports and at art. We will play soccer with you the next time we see you. Grm. I and Grp. J

I love the colorful Cardinal eating a red berry during the gentle snow ?. It is perfect for a winter decoration! Love, Gramma

Wow! I just logged on to view your artwork and you posted this beautiful winter picture just moments ago. The bright cardinal warmed our hearts on this cold day in December. Thinking of you always warms our hearts! I will definitely be ordering a print of your fun, creative piece of wildlife! Love, Grm. I and Grp. J

Dolphins are spectacular! They are quite intelligent. Along with whales, porpoises, and other cetaceans they have one of the most complex forms of communication known in the animal kingdom. Scientists have heard them whistle, scream, sorry-scream, click (squawks and barks), chirp, jaw clap and jaw pop. They also use larger body movements to communicate their needs and location. I would love to see them in person (in fish!) someday. Have you? Also, I would like to use a Sketch app. Could you teach me? Love, Gr. I.W.

Dear Caleb, I wish I was in this picture! I can feel and smell and hear the ocean waves just by looking at it!! You have a lot of artistic talent!!! I have never been on a surfboard but I have been in two oceans and one gulf. Love, Grandma I.

Hi Caleb, Cool Veterans Day art! Of course you know that your great-grandpa served in the Navy. Did you know that your other great-grandpa served in the Army and was stationed in Germany? Were your other great-grandparents veterans? See you soon!

I really like your Veteran's Day artwork ! The insects are cute.

This is an interesting piece of artwork! Is it a building designed to look like a giant ice cream cone? Is the Leaning Tower of Pisa in the background? Is there a sidewalk or a grassy field (or maybe a cornfield?) Whatever it is, it made us use our imaginations!!! - and it DOES look YUMMY. P.S. I'll give the maraschino cherry to Grandpa and eat the rest myself. Love from both of us!

Caleb, you are a very talented artist. I wish I could eat that ice-cream!

I'd like to live in this colorful town. I love the stars, but I wonder why the moon is not happy. Maybe he discovered that he can't stay out all night.

Hi Caleb, This colorful artwork sparks my imagination! I think it looks like a factory that makes colors, scents and flavors for delicious candy.

Water colors and line drawing together make a great creation! I have always loved both ways of making art. This reminded Grandpa and me of all the fun and movement at the wind-powered part of the Imaginarium we all went to together. Did you think about that when you were drawing and painting it? Love, Grm. and Grp. W.

Dear Caleb, Your sundae looks delicious enough to eat! At first Grandpa and I thought it was real but then we noticed the sequins. The whipped cream, cherry and caramel put it over the top! (Get it? - toppings!) I worked in an ice cream shop when I was a teenager. It was a lot of fun - especially eating free ice cream. Goodrich Dairy also had milk, cream, etc. I was very sticky when I got home. Love, Grandma Ianne

I googled "Jim Dine" and I really like his batik art, just like I like yours! Did you know that "batik" can be a noun or a verb? Did you use wax? Is your beautifully colored heart made on fabric or paper? Heart you!

We like how the cool and warm colors contrast on this jellyfish. It looks fanciful but also real as if it is really in the ocean. They are beautifully interesting creatures! Grandma Ianne

What a beautiful butterfly! We saw some very much like it on our flowers this summer. One of them might have hatched from the chrysalis that was formed by a caterpillar on the milkweed plant after it munched on the leaves. Grandma Ianne

This reminds us of the glow-in-the-dark car track that we gave you once. It also reminds me of the funny little plaque in my kitchen that says,"This mess is a place!" Grandma Ianne

Amazing! Grandpa and I both knew you were learning about VanGogh and his techniques as soon as we saw your artwork because it resembles his sunflowers so much. I actually have an art kit that I have been waiting to give you as a gift that is of Van Gogh's sunflowers. Grandma Ianne
