I love this! It makes me miss winter! The kitty wearing the hat is the best!

Your picture is cute and peaceful. Your choice of the background paper with tiny colored dots all over the page is perfect for displaying snowfall effects in this wintry scene. It also saved you a lot of work and softens the picture. The larger and darker red spots give bits of color while making footprints in the snow. Among the abundant snowflakes are five items: a cat, a rag doll wrapped in cloth from head to toe, a mug for cocoa, and a house where light shines through a window. There is also an elf who, in the spirit of the Christmas season, stands with bent knee spreading joy to us all!

I love the way your brilliant colors stand out against the background. The textures seem corrugated and metallic. They create a finish that makes the palette shine nicely. The yellow streak lends brightness to the entire picture. You produced a list of "cute things" and I had fun picking several of those items out. The first thing that struck me was the large purple "S" that ran through the picture, exposing images that are tucked here and there and everywhere. The letter "S" might even be your initial. There is an assortment of objects, animals, and of people in the picture. Teddy Bear is evident inside the lower loop of the "S". As I search higher, I see a strawberry floating on a lettuce leaf. Some of the other scattered images I have detected are a silver car, an infant, a large blue purse with handle, a horse's head, a man's face and a fox. One item may appear as two different things, depending on how you look at it. Grandma Angie

Dear Sophia, I hope that, by adopting Hindi as a second language, it will continue to have a positive influence on your painting. Grandma Angie

Dear Sophia, This painting was very appealing to me. You have assembled a bundle of colors that are pleasant to the eyes. The magenta splash of color provides an excellent upper border to the painting. At first glance, it seemed to be a picture of a pumpkin face with fruit eyes. The brown-stemmed item in front could be a nose, sniffing a lovely orchid. I love the variations of orange color on the pumpkin, as well as the variations on the magenta border. The tilted planter on the right side with green and brown colors balances the same colors on the left side. The leaves of the plant reach up toward the sun. I appreciate the opportunity to view your work; it was a highlight of my day.

"The Actor," appears to be theatrical. The head is held upright with an attitude of pride in the assigned role. I am drawn to the eyes, one of which is more prominent. The upper and lower eyelashes are neatly outlined. The nose is presented with only the tip showing one nostril. Colors are bright, the white balances the dark green, the colorful straps are perfectly showcased on the tan skin. The lips are red, the only color that crosses the facial mid-line. "The Actor's" short hair being pulled up and away from the face is like drawing a curtain open to show the entire picture. Lastly, we see a soft gray shadow along the jaw line that leads to the earlobe which hosts a small earring. "The Actor" deserves 5 stars!!

Sophia, A black border is excellent. It sets off a circle of 12 spaces with colors that range from light to bold. You separated the different color spaces with straight lines and fit them together perfectly. There is not one empty space in the entire circle. The artwork demanded attention to detail. And you gave it! Each part is where it needs to be. All the colored spaces are connected to the Dark Blue Water in the center, as are the straight lines. You carefully painted 12 areas without colors spreading onto other spaces. You drew a variety of marks on each color space; this allows viewers to speculate what the markings might signify. Congratulations on your Rainbow Land!!

These are some of the colors that produced Rainbow Land Your choice of a BLACK border is excellent. So is the circle of colors that range from light to bold and are displayed in separate partitions. You made the color YELLOW very important and perfectly located at the top of the picture. To me, it represents the Sun that is shining on tall buildings and giving life to everything that grows. LIGHT BLUE partition clearly shows the sky and cloud formation. The sky might be waiting for a cloudburst but just like our moods, the weather, and the seasons, rain is not predictable. I see three marks within the sky as clouds, flowing either swiftly or slowly. Colors bring out certain emotions in different people. Bright RED inspires me because it’s bold and makes me think of all the energy around it. In the center of the painting, DARK BLUE WATER is carefully connected to all the colors. Each color is confined to its own space by straight lines and no color runs over the border of any partition.

Hello Sophia40546 I am a Junior at Platteville High School. My Artsonia ID is Nathan21736 if you want to look me up and see my art! One thing I noticed about your mushroom house was the form you created with the red part of the mushroom and the stem. Also I noticed the pattern you created on the top of the mushroom with the white dots, creating a realistic looking mushroom. Good Job!

Dear Sophia, I am delighted with your mushroom house. Its red and green colors are vibrant. They make the house stand out like it's in a scene from Alice in Wonderland. A real mushroom has a cap and a stem. You transformed these materials into a house. Your large red roof provides ample shelter. It is weathered around the edges as we would expect, because a real mushroom grows outside in the wind, rain and sun. A mushroom is also called a toadstool. Can we imagine a toad sitting upon a mushroom?

In this picture, you made the tallest of three buildings a skyscraper. It's good that you made the building slender since tall buildings that are wide can often have heavy wind problems. This picture is very pleasing. The front door invites me in and the four floors and lots of windows welcome me. The clock is not drawn as a plain empty circle. Rather, you drew a traditional clockface with an actual time on it. You have produced a 3-D effect by painting the long thin strip of color on the right side of the skyscraper; and by the shape of the spire that is set way at the top. This will give your viewers perspective. The blue sky color is very good background for the picture. It helps to make the skyscraper the focus of your work. I love this picture!

I was interested to read your New Artist Statement where you commented about your art work and listed what you liked about your picture, The Heart Queen. You also wrote that you had “messed up her eyes but couldn’t fix that.” I liked your decision to leave the Queen’s eyes alone since you described the painting as a good thing and “very fun.” You didn’t allow “the messed up eyes” to be a mistake. Sometimes though, what you first consider to be a mistake may just turn out to be a happy accident. Continue to keep a positive attitude and your future art work will be “VERY FUN!”

Dear Sophia, You have knocked it out of the ballpark with the painting of this lady! I'm drawn to your use of lines in this composition. The oval-shaped lines enclose her perfect oval face. You drew her long curls wavy. That shows hair motion. Her neck is formed with two simple straight lines. Her blouse is outlined in the shape of a box. There is a neck choker at the top of the blouse. The hearts on the blouse are painted with just a little color. I see just a hint of color in a few places; no one color overpowers the portrait. How were you so inspired to paint different lines to compose this lovely lady? This is one of my favorite pictures.

Since Sophia was pre-school age and lived next door to my home, I have seen her artistic talents. Over the years, I have received her artwork on all types of paper and magnets. Each year she became more experienced in the coloring and shapes. Her streaks of color, the spiral lines and use of perspective make me feel as if she's composing a musical symphony. For the past two months, I have been ailing from a broken arm. Every day I looked at Sophia's art and it made me feel much improved, better than any medicine during my recovery. There's life and strength in Sophia's artwork. Her results are precious finds.

Hi Sophia: The artwork that you have painted is so wonderful I cannot resist looking at the pictures over and over. The pictures are very interesting and the vibrant paint colors are exactly what I, as a painter, would have used. It's obvious that you enjoy pleasing people with such delightful scenery. It really does express your personality. Thank you for inviting me to hear your school concert on the television this week. That too was grand! Grandma Angie
