Dear Lane, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this artwork in person and I think it is incredibly beautiful and well done. I asked about your sequence of work and you told me that you did the black lines first and then added in the colored lines. Your attention to detail and the focus that you demonstrated with this work to keep the colors within the lines is impressive. Really great job. Love, Mom

Dear Lane, I would like to know more about this sculptured piece! At first glance it looks abstract, but it is also very precise. That's probably because it is the eye of a creature that does to exist. You bring this creature to life through your own imagination of what a dragon's eye would look like. I love the way each component of the eye is so carefully crafted. I really like the combination of colors that you chose -- they make the eye seem like hit could be the eye of a dragon, because it doesn't look like the eye of any animal we see in daily life. Nice work and good job of using your imagination!

Dear Lane, I like the colors you chose and the shapes you created in your dragon eye art work. I am curious what material the eye is made out of - it really stands out in the art. Well done! Love, Mom

Dear Lane, What lovely colors and design work. It almost looks as though the colors are made from something with a sheen to it—like satin. The design is well balanced without looking rigid or contrived. It reminds me of a weaving. Quite beautiful. Nice work, Lane! You have a great amount of creative energy and skill, which is wonderful!

The interplay of colors and shapes in this piece are wonderful. I like the use of shading gives this a three dimensional effect. I really enjoy looking at this— it’s very pleasing to the eye and the brain!

Dear Lane, The colors in your latest artwork are deep and rich and I really enjoy them. Your focus was on dessert, but this artwork also appears beautifully abstract to me. Love, Mom

Dear Lane, Your latest piece of art is beautiful. I can tell that you spent a lot of time and effort on the variations of blue you used in the night sky. The brush strokes are very precise especially the layers of blues. Well done! Love, Mom

Dear Lane, As always, I am impressed by both the precision and the beauty of your artwork. This self portrait is quite wonderful. I keep looking at it and am amazed at your skill. It's not just a good likeness, it appears to be an expression of both your inner and outer self. You are learning techniques, such as shading, and the use of complementary color, but you are also willing to show how you feel in your artwork. Don't ever lose that ability, as that is what makes art come alive! Thank you for sharing this portrayal of you! Love, Kathleen

Dear Lane, Your self-portrait is impressive! If I saw several in a row I would know this one was yours without seeing your name. I was intrigued when we talked about your artwork and how you told me it was a step by step process and there was a lot of attention given to the background behind your profile. I do see multiple dimensions and your profile really pops on the page. You did a really nice job and showed attention to detail. Love, Mom

Dear Lane, This is a vibrant and detailed piece of art. Georgia O'Keefe was one of my favorite artists when I was younger. Kathleen and I saw her art exhibit in San Francisco. I would love to see which artwork of O'Keefe's you zoomed in on to make this very intricate oil pastel. Love, Mom

Dear Lane, I am very excited about this artwork. It has an otherworldly feel to it, almost like a surrealist’s work. But it also looks like a scene from the movie Metropolis, which is a silent movie about a futuristic city. It was made almost 100 years ago by German expressionist filmmaker Friz Lang. I wonder if you looked at pictures of the movie Metropolis when you were thinking about futuristic cities? It seems both real and familiar and surreal and hauntingly alien at the same time. Your drawing shows both precision and creativity. I think this drawing is quite wonderful.

Dear Lane, I am fascinated by this artwork. The red sky and the precisely drawn dark buildings suggest that something ominous may be happening. Like some of Goya's paintings. But then the impressionistic reflection of the cityscape seems so beautiful and tranquil. It reminds me of Monet's water lilies. The precise image and the reflection image both evoke strong, but very different, feelings. Together they give me a lot to think about and enjoy!

Dear Lane, I love your city drawing. It reminds me of New York City which is a place you visited when you were a small baby. Maybe you remember it from that trip :) The way you can see the reflection of the skyscraper buildings in the water is really beautiful and symmetrical. I always look forward to seeing what you do in art class. Love, Mom

This is such an interesting painting. I am fascinated by the sense of motion of you created with the red paint and the static nature of the blue rectangle. Is the blue rectangle going to be sucked into the vortex of the red particles? Or is it standing strong against the vortex that is developing behind it? Thank you Lane, for creating such a complex and interesting Painting. It made me think about a lot of possible meanings and I would love to know what you were thinking or feeling when you painted it.

Well done, Lane! I love how the red marks look like they are moving away from the blue marks. Really nice job on this piece of art.
