Bravo on the 3D lettering (and honeycomb) effects! It creates a deeper feeling of space in this picture. I like that you used dashed lines to show the meandering flight paths of the bees. The honey drips create a subtle, overall pattern. The flying cats are super fun, too! It is kind of the bees to "share" their delicious honey with us. At least, I hope they don't mind too much.

I love your new Be Kind design, Eero! The little cats are so cute! The lettering is nice, with the three-dimensional aspect. The inclusion of the octagonal cells and the hanging bee hives adds a lot of interest. And I really appreciate the random brownish red stripes all over the place, which makes it all seem so much more bee-like!

Your color blending technique works well throughout this picture. I like the color contrast between the horizontal purples and blues at the bottom and the vertical red-yellow-orange section above. The multi-colored spaces between the branches suggest different spacial areas and give the picture depth. Really interesting to look at how the shapes and colors work together! Vibrant and dramatic!

As you know, Eero, I loved this design so much that I had it made into a t-shirt that I can wear! You have learned so much about art in your 8 years! Awesome!

I like the way the bands of color define different parts of the mask's face. Even though it is flat and rectangular surface, it has the suggestion of volume. That pineapple on top is a great detail. To me, it looks like this guy is wearing a cap or hat that is perfectly suited to him. The shape of that big mouth filled with all of those teeth: This guy has a lot to say!

Wow! Great combination of text and image to convey the subject of the picture: cats. What a creative composition! You have distributed the colors and values (light to dark) really well. The different parts are clearly defined and all relate to each other. Interesting and fun picture to look at!

Nice use of several kinds of media to create different textures in this artwork. Your color choices in the top part of the picture are true to the northern lights. I especially like your birch trees. They have a lot of personality!

Although you weren't able to finish this project before it was photographed, the picture is a good reminder of the coil process that you used to construct this pot. I hope you get another chance to try this technique next year and are able to complete all the steps!

I like seeing this visual inventory, or list, of your favorite things, including colors, games, activities, and animals. The way you have them arranged, floating above and around you at the center of the picture, suggests to me that you are imagining things you hold dear in your mind and heart.

Your use of shading and contour lines are effective in suggesting depth, volume, and movement. The tube-like structures are squeezed together, bulging in one area, constricted in another. And maybe they have eyes or mouths in the middle?

For me, the atmosphere of this picture evokes a cool, wet, fall day, with falling leaves being blown around by the wind. The different media you have used, painted and drawn, create a distinct foreground and background. The background has a bokeh (soft focus) effect. The energetic coloring of the owl suggests the texture of its feathers. The black lines and the repeated triangles in the face gives the owl a strong, watchful presence.

I love optical illusion art! I bought a copy of this to have at home and every time I see it, I stop to appreciate the three dimensional illusion. Very good work, Eero!

I like the composition you chose for this piece...the broad stripes of your favorite colors boldly backing up your self portrait, and then all your favorite things dancing around the outside space! I love the clothes in your self portrait and your adorable face!

Nice work on the koi's scales! I like how the detail of the koi contrasts with the broad, mostly blue area (the water) surrounding the fish. The way you painted the water -- brushstrokes going in different directions and thicker and thinner paint -- gives it the appearance of movement.

I like the way you used smiling stars, hearts, and curly cues to make decorative lines around your lettering. What a bright, colorful, happy message!

Sunny yellow glows at the center of the picture. Energetic blooming flowers, reach up for the sun. Spectacular and beautiful!

Wow! How did you create this picture? It’s so vibrant and pretty! Good work!

Eero, I love seeing your own spark in this piece of work. It is bright and radiant like the sun and stars. You can inspire people to be kind! Keep it up!

Wow, this is a concentrated kawaii package! The colors and decorative patterns you have used around the pot are wonderful. The chick peeking out of the top is beyond cute. Well done!

Cool technique for creating the trunk and branches of the tree. Beautiful striped background colors. Kudos on learning the kanji for "cherry tree!"

I will enjoy seeing this work of art in person because it looks like there are some 3D blossoms! I like your color selections. You are good at achieving balance in your compositions...this one especially! I wonder what the word in Chinese characters means at the bottom of the piece?

Mixing tints is an important painting technique to learn. Your achieved a good result in this painting. The gradations are very even as they radiate from the white moon in the center. I especially like your snowflake spots, which add a sense of motion to this otherwise stable composition.

I love this painting! It captures the best things about winter for me...the winter moon, sky and trees lined with frost! I like the circular theme...like looking up when you're in a forest!

I like the way you have placed the different elements of this design -- radial (stars and hearts), vertical (stripes), and horizontal (words) -- in such a way that they approximately align with and balance against each other. Great use of the different colors and values, too. What a fun and cheerful picture -- all those smiling stars!

This piece of art did really brighten my day! Initially, when I looked at it, I saw the bold design. Then I saw the great message, "Be Kind!" I like the happy faces within the letter B!

Wonderful use of contrasting colors to create a vibrant pattern! The variety of shapes you used -- rectangles, circles, and stars -- gives the pattern even more visual interest.

I'm impressed that you were able to show several different layers simultaneously. I like the different patterns on snakes and that they each have their own posture and are of various sizes. This is such a playful picture and interesting to look at!

A beautiful job of weaving, Eero! I love your color selection!

I am blown away by the great techniques that Eero is learning in art class! This picture is so charming that I used it for Christmas cards which say, 'Merry Everything"...even snakes! hahahahah

This portrait captures a cheerful aspect of your personality. The coloring of your skin, hair, eyes, and clothes are well observed. I hope your future self continues to be as creative and artistic as your present self!
Posted 3 years ago by Alan (Father)
Very nice self portrait, Eero! You have gone into so much detail! Love the blue eyes and the red hair and the striped shirt. I consider this your first self portrait. I hope you will frame it!

I like how you've shown the different personalities of these birds, grouped together like they're in a class photo. You've managed to express a lot with just a few facial features and figurative poses. The loosely balanced, triangular composition you created gives the picture both grounding and dynamism. Well done!

Another wonderful composition! This is a fun picture to look at. You have created a great sense of space between the more strongly colored hearts in the foreground and pale pink hearts in the background. The colored streaks and lightly applied colors in the areas between the forms create a dynamic atmosphere. I especially like how each of the hearts in the foreground seems to have its own personality, expressed through shape, color, and texture.
Posted 3 years ago by Alan (Father)
These hearts are arranged like sparkling gems in a display case. This composition buzzes with energetic coloring and forms of different sizes and colors all relating to each other and radiating love! Clever, too, that you figured out how to write your name backwards!

This is classic! One glance at this piece and a person feels so good! Thank you, Eero!

Eero is a master with the markers, but this looks like a new medium. I love that central figure, the rainbow heart with an attitude! And the other hearts dancing crazily around...like bugs? water creatures? Very interesting composition!
Posted 3 years ago by Mary
I love the variety in the characters depicted in this piece! I also find the composition to be pleasing and the selection of colors is, as usual with this artist, lively and joyful! The legs on the tallest bird are hilarious!

Eero, I enjoy this style so much! It is fun to examine closely and it is beautiful to look at from a distance! Extraordinary work!

Spectacular! Your butterfly is like a piece of jewelry come to life. So beautifully decorated, its motion and colors energizing the surrounding atmosphere.

I love the way you made this tiger's nose, by coloring in the shape formed by the overlapping circles. That is just the right shape for a feline nose. And look, this tiger has fangs just like Mr. Evans! There's a lot going on in this tiger's neighborhood. I think he must enjoy living there.
Posted 4 years ago by Alan (Father)
Wow! What a wonderful use of color in forms, lines, shapes, and patterns. You've made so many different animals: I'm seeing a cat, dog, fish, mouse, octopus, penguin, tiger, and zebra. The fish and tiger look like they're especially enjoying being a part of this fabulous alphabet world.

This is really quite spectacular Eero. Something crazy but controlled. Very very nice.

I love the lion, Eero! I like how he fills up the whole page and then you added such a nice background with the trees and the pond and all. The lion has a nice face, even though he's ferocious!

Excellent symmetry, Eero! I love the colors and the way you use them. I like how you don't mix them much, but distribute them all over the page. Very pretty and dynamic!
